  • The performance enhancement of heat exchanger in the drying system using solar collector with evacuated tubes is analyzed. First, for this analysis, the heat loss from a reversed trapezoidal fin attached at the pipe is calculated as a function of convection characteristic number ratio, fin base length and fin tip length. Also, the optimum heat loss and fin tip length of the fin under certain conditions are presented. The overall surface effectiveness of the cylinder with reversed trapezoidal fins in the heat exchanger are shown as a function of half fin base height, fin lateral slope and fin tip length.

  • The roundnose flounder's (Eopsetta grigorjewi) spermiogenesis and fine structure of the spermatozoon were examined by means of the scanning and transmission electron microscopy, During the spermiogenesis, the chromatin of the spermatid became fine granular form, and progressively condensed into many large globules, finally homogeneously condensed in the spermatozoan head. The main characteristics of the spermiogenesis were the disappearanre of Golgi complex, the appearance of microfilament the reduction of mitochondria and the appearance of Iysosome in the cytoplasm. A spermatozoon consisted of head and tail, but the acrosome was absent. The cytoplasmic collar containing seven mitochondria was observed in the posterior part of the head. The well-developed axonemal lateral fins were observed in the tail. The cross section of the axial filament showed '9+2' axonemal structure of microtubules, and the numerous vesicles were observed in the cytoplasm.

  • The spermatozoon of Squalidus gracilis majimae is approximately $36.6{\mu}m$ in length and is characterized by a spherical nucleils with the clear chromatin, a short midpiece containing the mitochondria, and a flagellum positioned tangentially to the nucleus. An acrosome is absent as in all teleost fishes. The nucleus is about $1.9{\mu}m$ in diameter and in its periphery contains the electron-lucent chromatin distinguished from the electron-dense chromatin occupying most of the nucleus. The shallow nuclear fossa contains the proximal centriole, instead of two centrioles in deep nuclear fossa in siluroids. The proximal and distal centrioles are oriented approximately $140^{\circ}$ to each other. The mitochondria of 10 or more in number are arranged in three layers and do not surround the axoneme. The asymmetrical distribution of the mitochondria and the eccentrical position of the nucleus with regard to the tail are the general pattern of the cyprinid spermatozoa. S. gracilis majimae spermatozoa have the most mitochondria and the deepest cytoplasmic canal among cyprinid species. The flagellum lacks the lateral fins.

  • Spermatozoa of Aphyocypris chinensis was studied by transmission electron microscopy. The investiation revaled that, spermatozoa display a round head, a small midpiece and a long tail region. In the spermatozoa, the nucleus contains highly condensed homogeneous chromation with small electron lucent areas. The base of the nucleus is slightly invaginated laterally by the nuclear fossa which contains the proximal centriole. The two centrioles orientated at an obtus angle (130°) to each other. The midpiece encircles the flagellum and is completely separated from it by the cytoplasmic channel. The midpiece contains more than 12 mitochondria. The mitochondria are arranged in 4~5 layer and are asymmetrically distributed in the postnuclear cytoplasm. The mitochondria surround the proximal part of the flagellum. The flagellum has classical 9+2 axoneme and no lateral fins. The spermatozoa of A. chinensis are similar to those of other cyprinids having a spherical head with a shallow nuclear fossa, a short midpiece including the asymmetrical arrangement of mitochondria and the lateral insertion of flagellum. However, there are some differences in the orientation of centrioles and the number of the mitochondria.

  • A single specimen of the genus Bothus (family Bothidae) was collected for the first time at the intertidal zone of Moseulpo Port, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jejudo Island, on 14 August 2022. The specimen was identified as Bothus pantherinus in having following morphological traits: dark spots and ring-shaped patterns near eyes and the pectoral fins, one distinct spot in the center of the lateral line, 75 lateral line scales, and seven hourglass shaped supracranial pterygiophores. As a result of analyzing 603 bp of mitochondrial DNA COI sequences, our specimen was perfectly matched to those of B. pantherinus registered in NCBI. It has been known that the species is widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific Ocean from Red Sea to Hawaiian (32 degrees north to 32 degrees south), but this study revealed that its distribution expanded to the waters of Jejudo Island (33 degrees north), Korea. We propose its new Korean name "Beot-kkoch-mu-nui-dung-geul-neob-chi".

  • A single specimen of Lepidocybium flavobrunneum (910.0 mm standard length) in the family Gempylidae, was collected off northwestern Jeju Island, Korea on April 28, 2016. The species is characterized by a blackish body, very low first dorsal fin spines, second dorsal fin rays followed by six finlets, anal fins followed by five finlets, caudal peduncle with a large keel flanked by two small supplementary keels, and a lateral line with an irregular wave pattern. Here, we propose the new Korean names "Heuk-gal-chi-ggo-chi-sok" for the genus Lepidocybium and "Heuk-gal-chi-ggo-chi" for the species L. flavobrunneum.

  • Three marine fish species are recorded for the first time from Korean waters: a molid (Ranzania laevis, 1 specimen, 279.8 mm SL) and bramid (Pterycombus petersii, 3 specimens, 95.3-214.0 mm SL) collected from a large purse seine off Jeju Island, in the southern sea of Korea, and a carangid (Carangoides dinema, 1 specimen, 194.5 mm SL) from a set net in coastal waters off Busan, in the southeastern sea of korea. R. laevis is characterized by a wedge-shaped body and truncated clavus; P. petersii by the dorsal fin origin above or behind the posterior margin of eye, and dorsal and anal fins depressible; and C. dinema by a row of black blotches along the second dorsal fin base, the curved part of the lateral line longer than straight part, and 18 and 16 dorsal and anal fin rays, respectively. New Korean names are proposed for all three species.

  • A gobiid fish, Parioglossus dotui Tomiyama is described from 359 specimens collected at Cheju-do and Pusan, in August 1994 of 1986. This is the first definitive record of the species in the Korean waters. Parioglossus dotui having a small-sized body usually is found swimming in schools. The branchiostegals are 5 in number on each side. It grows up to 40mm in total length. Most of ventral fins are separated and connected with rudimentray membrane. In this species, the lateral line were indistincet or absent. The caudal fin slightly emarginates or truncates in both sexes, with a dark spot at the border of the base. It Inhabits inlet waters and estuaries of rivers. "Deungsul mang-dug" is proposed as Korean name of this species.

  • Spermiogenesis in the Zacco koreanus is characterized by lateral development of flagellum, shallow nuclear fossa formation and with no nuclear rotation. These spermatozoa exhibit a spherical head containing a nucleus with the chromatin highly condensed and no acrosome. The midpiece is a small and a short cytoplasmic canal. Mitochondria are separated from the initial segement of the axoneme by cytoplasmic canal. The flagellum contains the classic axoneme structure (9+2) and has a vesicle in the initial region; it dose not have axonemal fins. The presence of a vesicle in the initial region of flagella, a structure common in many Cypriniformes spermatozoa.

  • A intergeneric hybrid between Rhodeus uyekii and Acheilognathus signifer was collected in the Jojongcheon Bukhan River. The hybrid showed intermediate characteristics of two parental types in some key characters, such as color pattern of body, pigmentation of dorsal, anal, and caudal fins, and body spot and stripe. In addition, the hybrid had a fairly large number of lateral line scales, while it lacked a barbel, which is known as a key intergeneric character. The probable occurrence of a natural hybrid is supported by a viable $F_1$ hybrid produced with the parental species.
