Dynamic analysis of lateral pile under seismic loading is performed in this paper. As an analytical model, the Bean-on-twinkler Foundation Model is used for this study because of its simplicity and acceptible accuracy . The method suggested by Kagawa and Kraft, which can account for non-linear effects, is used for the dynamic P-y relationship This relationship is found to be the most important factor in analysis . Group pile effects are also considered approximately The results of dynamic analysis show that a pile without supporting mass follows the soil movement ; in the case of a pile with supporting mass, the relative displacement between the soil and the pile occurs . When designing piles, it must be considered that piles have to resist the curvatures originated by the soil movement.
In this paper, a dynamic control scheme is proposed which not only compensates for the lateral dynamics and longitudinal dynamics but also deal with the yaw motion dynamics. Using the dynamic control technique, adaptive and learning algorithm together, the proposed controller is not only robust to disturbance and parameter uncertainties but also can learn the inverse dynamics model in steady state. Based on the proposed dynamic control scheme, a dynamic vehicle simulator is contructed to design and test various control techniques for 4-wheel steering vehicles.
The main focus of the current study is to evaluate the dynamic behavior of a cantilever retaining wall considering backfill and soil/foundation interaction effects. For this purpose, a three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) with viscous boundary is developed to investigate the seismic response of the cantilever wall. To demonstrate the validity of the FEM, analytical examinations are carried out by using modal analysis technique. The model verification is accomplished by comparing its predictions to results from analytical method with satisfactory agreement. The method is then employed to further investigate parametrically the effects of not only backfill but also soil/foundation interactions. By means of changing the soil properties, some comparisons are made on lateral displacements and stress responses. It is concluded that the lateral displacements and stresses in the wall are remarkably affected by backfill and subsoil interactions, and the dynamic behavior of the cantilever retaining wall is highly sensitive to mechanical properties of the soil material.
Anomalous scaling behaviors such as significantly large growth exponent (${\beta}$) and small reciprocal of dynamic exponent (1/z) values for many molecular crystalline thin films have been reported. In this study, the variation of scaling exponent values and consequent growth behaviors of molecular thin films were more quantitatively analysed using a (1+1)-dimensional surface lateral diffusion model. From these simulations, influence of step edge barriers and grain boundaries of molecular thin films on the various scaling exponent values were elucidated. The simulation results for the scaling exponents were also well consistent with the experimental data for previously reported molecular thin film systems.
As freight traffic becomes heavier, the high speed of existing freight cars is essential, instead of the construction of a new railway. The high speed can be achieved by the modifications of freight bogie design. In this paper, an analytical model of freight bogie is developed to decide the critical speed. The dynamic responses of the analytical model are compared with the experimental data from a running test of freight bogie and showed good agreements between them. The analytical model is used to find the design of freight bogie. The parameter studies show that the reduction of wheelset mass ratio and the increase of the axle distance of freight bogie can increase the critical speed, but the primary lateral stiffness has little effects on the critical speed. And this study also shows that smaller wheel conicity deteriorates the running safety of freight car, which means that the overhauling of the wheel of freight bogie should be done regularly.

A flexible-base coupled-two-beam (CTB) discrete model with equivalent tuned mass dampers is used to assess the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) and different types of lateral resisting systems on the design of passive dynamic absorbers (PDAs) under the action of along-wind and across-wind loads due to vortex shedding. A total of five different PDAs are considered in this study: (1) tuned mass damper (TMD), (2) circular tuned sloshing damper (C-TSD), (3) rectangular tuned sloshing damper (R-TSD), (4) two-way liquid damper (TWLD) and (5) pendulum tuned mass damper (PTMD). By modifying the non-dimensional lateral stiffness ratio, the CTB model can consider lateral deformations varying from those of a flexural cantilever beam to those of a shear cantilever beam. The Monte Carlo simulation method was used to generate along-wind and across-wind loads correlated along the height of a real shear wall-frame building, which has similar fundamental periods of vibration and different modes of lateral deformation in the xz and yz planes, respectively. Ambient vibration tests were conducted on the building to identify its real lateral behavior and thus choose the most suitable parameters for the CTB model. Both alongwind and across-wind responses of the 144-meter-tall building were computed considering four soil types (hard rock, dense soil, stiff soil and soft soil) and a single PDA on its top, that is, 96 time-history analyses were carried out to assess the effect of SSI and lateral resisting system on the PDAs design. Based on the parametric analyses, the response significantly increases as the soil flexibility increases for both type of lateral wind loads, particularly for flexural-type deformations. The results show a great effectiveness of PDAs in controlling across-wind peak displacements and both along-wind and across-wind RMS accelerations, on the contrary, PDAs were ineffective in controlling along-wind peak displacements on all soil types and different kind of lateral deformation. Generally speaking, the maximum possible value of the PDA mass efficiency index increases as the soil flexibility increases, on the contrary, it decreases as the non-dimensional lateral stiffness ratio of the building increases; therefore, there is a significant increase of the vibration control effectiveness of PDAs for lateral flexural-type deformations on soft soils.

In this paper, dynamic performance of 4WD/4WS Electric-driven vehicles is investigated. A coupled dynamic model is introduced for longitudinal, lateral and yawing motion of 4WD/4WS vehicles. Based on the coupled model, dynamic performance is analyzed for steady-state steering, acceleration steering and brake steering, respectively. These non steady-state cornering analysis is important for non-paved road maneuvering, trajectory projection for armored vehicle and future AVCS(Advanced Vehicle Control System) technology. Simulation results are obtained based on a simulink module for the introduced model.
This paper analyzes the variation law of the pipe lateral vibration characteristics, it was treated as a beam model, and was dispersed into several subunits based on the FEM. The corresponding stiffness and mass matrix of the pipe was deduced by using Hermite interpolation function, and the overall dynamic balance equation was established. The lateral vibration under different pipe lengths, thicknesses and towing speeds are solved by integral method. The results show that the pipe vibration trend decreases first and then increases, and the vibration value at the ore bin is larger than that at the pump set, and the value at the top is the largest, and the least value location can change with the length increase. Increasing length and thickness can reduce lateral vibration value, while increasing speed can increase the value. Neither the thickness nor the towing speed will change the location where the least value occurs. The vibration intensity will increase with the decrease of pipe length and thickness and the increase of towing speed.
The design of high-rise building is often influenced by wind-induced motions such as accelerations and lateral deflections. Consequently, the building's structural stiffness and dynamic (vibration periods and damping) properties become important parameters in the determination of such motions. The approximate methods and empirical expressions used to quantify these parameters at the design phase tend to yield values significantly different from each other. In view of this, there is a need to examine how actual buildings in the field respond to dynamic wind loading in order to ascertain a more realistic model for the dynamic behavior of buildings. This paper describes the findings from full-scale measurements of the wind-induced response of typical high-rise buildings in Singapore, and recommends an empirical forecast model for periods of vibration of typical buildings in Singapore, an appropriate computer model for determining the periods of vibration, and appropriate expressions which relate the wind speed to accelerations in buildings based on wind tunnel force balance model test and field results.

This paper presents the characteristics of lateral vibrations of rotor system supported by hydrodynamic journal bearings. Finite element model is developed for the dynamic analysis of rotor system. Hydrodynamic bearings are modeled with the distributed springs and dampers in shape of the 2nd order polynomials in the direction of bearing width. Experiments are conducted to measure the natural frequency, and experimental results are compared with the theoretical results that are calculated using the point model and distributed model. Theoretical results using the distributed model agrees better with the measured results as bearing width increases. Also, this method is applied to actual three-stage turbo blower model. Then, critical speed and forced vibration analysis are performed.
