  • Purpose: In 2020, the franchise industry accomplished a significant growth compared to the previous year, as the number of franchise companies increased by 9.0% while the number of franchise brands increased by 12.5%. Despite growth in size, the Korean franchise industry underwent many negative incidents, such as franchise ownership sales to private equity funds, that led to deterioration of businesses. From this point of view, this study aims to make various proposals to help policy makers develop franchise industry policies by analyzing trends of the current and previous presidential administrations' franchise policies and regulations using newspaper articles. Research design, data and methodology: A total of 7,439 articles registered in Naver API from February 25, 2013 to November 29, 2021 were extracted. Among them, 34 unrelated video articles were deleted, and a total of 7,405 articles from both administrations were used for analysis. The R package was used for word frequency analysis, word clouding, word correlation analysis, and LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) topic modeling. Results: The keyword frequency analysis shows that the most frequently mentioned keywords during the previous administration include 'no-brand', 'major company', 'bill', 'business field', and 'SMEs', and those mentioned during the current administration include 'industry' and 'policy'. As a result of LDA topic modeling, 9 topics such as 'global startups' and 'job creation' from the previous administration, and 10 topics such as 'franchise business' and 'distribution industry' from the current administration were derived. The results of LDAvis showed that the previous administration operated a policy based on mutual growth of large and small businesses rather than hostile regulations in the franchise business, whereas the current administration extended the regulation related to franchise business to the employment sector. Conclusions: The analysis of past two administrations' franchise policy, it can be suggested that franchisors and franchisees may complement each other in developing the Fair Transactions in Franchise Business Act and achieving balanced growth. Moreover, political support is needed for sound development of franchisors. Limitations and future research suggestions are presented at the end of this study.

  • This study analyzed parents' school satisfaction longitudinally using data from the 1st, 3rd, and 5th wave data of the Korea Education Longitudinal Study(KELS)2013. The subjects of analysis are parents who responded without dropping out in the first, third and fifth panel of the KELS2013, and 4,227 cases that had no missing values in the variables were selected for the sample to input for analysis of the latent growth modeling(LGM). As a result, it is confirmed that the parents' education, educational support, and children's academic achievement have a positive effect on the parents' school satisfaction. But the parents' educational view and education cost have a negative effect on that. The results of this study are expected to be important information to help enhance the primary function of the school.

  • This study aims to estimate the trajectory of outpatient medical service use and examine what factors are associated with the trajectory among older adults 60 and over with specific focuses on age variations. Using the first three waves of the Korean Welfare Panel Study data, the trajectory and predictors were examined through the Latent Growth Curve Modeling and age variations were examined through the Multi-group Comparison Analyses. The research model was developed based on the Anderson Model. The results showed that study participants tend to increase outpatient medical service use with years. Individuals 75 or younger presented a much faster increasing rate of medical service use than those 75 and over. Similar to the findings of the previous studies, most predisposing factors, resource factors, and needs factors were found to be associated with the trajectory of outpatient medical service use. Needs factors were more closely associated with the medical service use trajectory than resource factors. With regard to age variations in predictors, few significant age variations were found. Based on the finding of the study, implications and future research directions were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the longitudinal change pattern of life satisfaction and the effect of social capital of people with disabilities. For this study, data were drawn from the panel data employment for the disabled from the second to the fifth. It includes 3,206 person with disabilities. The methodology adopted in this study is the latent growth curve modeling. The findings of this study are as follows: First, Life satisfaction has been decreased over years and the difference between individuals of life satisfaction of people with disabilities were statistically significant. Second, The intercept of life satisfaction in the disabled was positively associated with network, and slope of life satisfaction was negatively related to network. Third, social participation positively influences the intercept of life satisfaction but, no significant affect to the slope. Based on results of the study, practical implication and the political-approach to interventions for the better life satisfaction of the disabled are being discussed.

  • This study examines the longitudinal effect of goal perception, mathematics class factors(perceptions about mathematics teachers (PMT), mathematics classroom attitude), and mathematics academic achievement. This study consists of three research models. First, we examined the longitudinal change of goal perception, perceptions about mathematics teachers (PMT), mathematics classroom attitude, and mathematics academic achievement using latent growth curve modeling. Secondly, the slope of PMT is a critical mediator between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Finally, the slope of mathematics classroom attitude is a critical mediator between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Data were extracted from Seoul Education Longitudinal Study from 2010 to 2012 (in three waves), and the analysis used by middle school students, measured by 4163 students of the three-wave surveys. Latent growth modeling was applied to verify the research problems. The results of the research are as follows. First, the slope of goal perception had positive and significant effects on the slope of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude, respectively. Second, the slope of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude had positively significant effects on the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Finally, it was confirmed that the slopes of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude are critical mediators between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal trajectories of life satisfaction, loneliness, and depression and to identify the factors that influence these trajectories in North Korean Defectors (NKD). Methods : NKD (n=300) who registered in the multi-regional adaptation center (Hana Center), within three years of settling in South Korea, were recruited into this study. Life satisfaction, loneliness, and depression were assessed with self-report questionnaires over a period of 4 years (7 waves of data). Latent growth modeling was conducted to assess the changes in life satisfaction, loneliness, and depression. Results : Findings from both unconditional and conditional models (with gender, South Korea settlement age, household income, marital status, and PTSD at wave 1) indicated a linear increase in loneliness and depression, and a linear decrease in life satisfaction over the 4-year period. In the conditional model, gender predicted the intercept of life satisfaction and depression. In addition, PTSD predicted the intercept of life satisfaction, loneliness, and depression and slope of depression. Conclusion : Our finding suggests that the mental health of NKD tends to deteriorate over time after settling in South Korea. Therefore, continuous support is necessary for their successful adaptation to the South Korean Society.

  • The aim of this study was to examine trajectories in and predictors of marital satisfaction among parents with one year old baby. Latent growth modeling was used with a sample of 984 households. Data from Panel Study on Korean Children conducted by Korea Institute of Child Care and Education were used. The study results revealed that for both fathers and mothers, marital satisfaction decreased over time after the birth of the first child. However, fathers' marital satisfaction decreased more steeply than mothers'. Furthermore, mothers' employment was associated with the changes of fathers' marital satisfaction. Father involvement and marital conflict predicted changes of mothers' marital satisfaction. These findings show that factors such as father involvement and marital conflict are more highly associated with changes in mothers' marital satisfaction than fathers'. Also, the study suggests that parent education should be systematically organized to promote father involvement and to resolve marital conflict.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of worker's innovative organizational culture on organizational commitment in companies. The research data were used from the fourth year (2011) to the seventh year (2017) of the HCCP (Human Capital Corporate Panel), and 207 companies were subject to the final analysis except for missing values. To statistically validate the research model, we utilize the SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs to perform Latent Growth Modeling analysis. The results of the study are as follows. First, both the innovative organizational culture and organizational commitment of companies have been shown to continue to decline over time. Second, the initial value of innovative organizational culture has been shown to have a significant impact on the initial value of organizational commitment. On the other hand, the initial value of innovative organizational culture has no significant effect on the rate of change in organizational commitment. Third, the rate of change in innovative organizational culture has been shown to have a significant impact on the rate of change in organizational commitment. Based on these findings, we present practical measures to enhance the importance of innovative organizational culture along with its implications.
