A Data Based Methodology for Estimating the Unconditional Model of the Latent Growth Modeling (잠재성장모형의 무조건적 모델 추정을 위한 데이터 기반 방법론)

  • The Latent Growth Modeling(LGM) is known as the arising analysis method of longitudinal data and it could be classified into unconditional model and conditional model. Unconditional model requires estimated value of intercept and slope to complete a model of fitness. However, the existing LGM is in absence of a structured methodology to estimate slope when longitudinal data is neither simple linear function nor the pre-defined function. This study used Sequential Pattern of Association Rule Mining to calculate slope of unconditional model. The applied dataset is 'the Youth Panel 2001-2006' from Korea Employment Information Service. The proposed methodology was able to identify increasing fitness of the model comparing to the existing simple linear function and visualizing process of slope estimation.

The Trajectories and Predictors of Maternal Post Natal Depressive Symptoms in a High Risk Group, Based on Latent Growth Modeling (우울위험 집단 어머니의 우울 변화궤적 및 예측요인 분석: 잠재성장모형을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to employ the Latent Growth Curve Model to investigate the developmental trajectories of maternal depressive symptoms and to identify predictors that might have an effect on change and the level of developmental trajectories. The results of this study indicated that the maternal depressive levels of a high risk group had increased significantly over the past 5 years. The predictors for these developmental trajectories of maternal depressive symptoms were as follows; birth order, maternal prenatal depressive levels, self-esteem, marital satisfaction, parenting stress and the level of family crisis experienced by the high risk group.

The Impact of Reading on Self-Efficacy and Multicultural Acceptance: Using Multi-variate Latent Growth Model (독서가 자기효능감과 다문화수용성에 미치는 영향 분석 - 다변량 잠재성장모형을 적용하여 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of reading on self-efficacy and multicultural acceptance. The Korean Education and Employment Pannel II data were used for the analysis. Through analyzing the data with latent growth model, the growth trajectories for reading, self-efficacy, and multicultural acceptance were identified, and the relationship between three variances were analyzed using multi-variate latent growth model. As results, reading books, self-efficacy, and multicultural acceptance were decreased, as times go by. Next, the intercept of reading was postively related with self-efficacy and multicultural acceptance. Finally, self-efficacy mediated between the intercept of reading and the multicultural acceptance, and it's statistically significant.

A Longitudinal Analysis of the Number of Checked-out Books Using Latent Growth Model and Growth Mixture Modeling (잠재성장모형과 성장혼합모형을 이용한 도서관 대출권수의 종단적 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to longitudinally analyze impact factors on library use. One of library use indicators, the number of circulated books was statistically analyzed with latent growth model and growth mixture model. Library data from 2014 to 2019 were collected from the National Library Statistics System, and 846 public libraries were analyzed. As results, the number of circulated books were decreased, but it was tempered. Next, with controlling the factor affecting the dependent variable, the size of collection and the number of participants in reading programs provided by public libraries were statistically significant. Lastly, 5 classes were identified by applying the growth mixture model, and the number of librarians was significantly associated with trajectory class membership.

Classification of latent classes and analysis of influencing factors on longitudinal changes in middle school students' mathematics interest and achievement: Using multivariate growth mixture model (중학생들의 수학 흥미와 성취도의 종단적 변화에 따른 잠재집단 분류 및 영향요인 탐색: 다변량 성장혼합모형을 이용하여)

  • This study investigates longitudinal patterns in middle school students' mathematics interest and achievement using panel data from the 4th to 6th year of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study. Results from the multivariate growth mixture model confirmed the existence of heterogeneous characteristics in the longitudinal trajectory of students' mathematics interest and achievement. Students were classified into four latent classes: a low-level class with weak interest and achievement, a high-level class with strong interest and achievement, a middlelevel-increasing class where interest and achievement rise with grade, and a middle-level-decreasing class where interest and achievement decline with grade. Each class exhibited distinct patterns in the change of interest and achievement. Moreover, an examination of the correlation between intercepts and slopes in the multivariate growth mixture model reveals a positive association between interest and achievement with respect to their initial values and growth rates. We further explore predictive variables influencing latent class assignment. The results indicated that students' educational ambition and time spent on private education positively affect mathematics interest and achievement, and the influence of prior learning varies based on its intensity. The perceived instruction method significantly impacts latent class assignment: teacher-centered instruction increases the likelihood of belonging to higher-level classes, while learner-centered instruction increases the likelihood of belonging to lower-level classes. This study has significant implications as it presents a new method for analyzing the longitudinal patterns of students' characteristics in mathematics education through the application of the multivariate growth mixture model.

Effects of Parenting Stress and Controlling Parenting Attitudes on Problem Behaviors of Preschool Children: Latent Growth Model Analysis

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the longitudinal effects of parenting stress and parental control attitudes on problem behaviors in preschool children, using a latent growth model. Methods: Participants were 1,724 pairs of parents and 1,724 preschool children who had completed the panel survey on Korean children ($5^{th}{\sim}7^{th}$ survey panels). Results: An analysis of the multivariate latent growth model of parenting stress, parental control attitudes, and children's problem behaviors suggested that the parents' intercepts for parenting stress influenced their intercepts for parental control attitudes (father: ${\beta}=.21$, p<.001; mother: ${\beta}=.55$, p<.001). In addition, the slopes for fathers' parenting stress was the only aspect that affected the slopes for mothers' parental control attitudes (${\beta}=.77$, p<.001). Moreover, both the intercepts and slopes of parenting stress and parental control attitudes significantly affected the children's problem behaviors. Conclusion: This study is significant as it provides longitudinal evidence of the impact of parenting stress and parental control attitudes on children's problem behaviors. The findings suggest that accurately assessing changes in parenting stress and parental control attitudes and developing intervention programs to reduce them will be effective in reducing problem behaviors in children.

The Longitudinal Relationship between Korean Youth's Social Withdrawal, Depression and Community Sense Using Latent Growth Model : A Mediating Effect of Achievement Values (잠재성장모형을 활용한 중학생의 사회적 위축 및 우울과 공동체 의식 간의 종단적 관계 연구 : 성취가치의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal relationship between Korean youth's social withdrawal, depression and community sense mediated by achievement values. For this purpose, we analyzed three years of the longitudinal panel data (2011-2013) of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Data were collected from 2,351 first year middle school students using the latent growth model using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 22.0. The main analysis results were as follows. First, social withdrawal and depression decreased and community sense increased as time passed. These results supported the linear change model. Second, the initial status of social withdrawal and depression had effects on the initial status and change rates of community sense. Achievement values, the partial mediator, had a positive influence on initial community sense but had a negative influence on change rates of community sense. We discussed how to improve Korean youth's community sense based on these results.

The Verification of the Reliability and Validity of Special Needs Education Assessment Tool (SNEAT) in Miyagi, Japan

  • The Special Needs Education Assessment Tool (SNEAT) were verified of reliability and validity. However, the reliability and validity has been verified is only Okinawa Prefecture, the national data has not been analyzed. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the reliability and construct validity of SNEAT in Miyagi Prefecture as part of the national survey. SNEAT using 55 children collected from the classes on independent activities of daily living for children with disabilities in Miyagi Prefecture between November and December 2015. Survey data were collected in a longitudinal prospective cohort study. The reliability of SNEAT was verified via the internal consistency method; the coefficient of Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ were over 0.7. The validity of SNEAT was also verified via the latent growth curve model. SNEAT is valid based on its goodness-of-fit values obtained using the latent growth curve model, where the values of comparative fit index (0.997), tucker-lewis index (0.996) and root mean square error of approximation (0.025) were within the goodness-of-fit range. These results indicate that SNEAT has high reliability and construct validity.

Income Trajectories of Working Poor and Working Non-poor: A Latent Growth Model (근로빈곤층과 근로비빈곤층의 차별적 소득 궤적 - 잠재성장모형의 응용 -)

  • This study investigates the difference in income trajectories of the working poor and the non-working poor and explains the effects of socio-demographic (marriage, education) and regional (living in large cities) factors on intergroup differences. We use Seoul Survey data collected between 2009-2018 and the latent growth modeling approach. It was found that the trajectory difference between groups was statistically significant. Since 2016, the income gap widened as the income of the working poor stagnated. The three variables included in this model better explained the income trajectory of the working poor compared to the working non-poor. In particular, the change in income growth rate was positively related to whether they live in large cities. This suggests the possibility that living in a large city would act as an economic premium for the working poor. It is necessary to conduct follow-up studies on urban premiums for the working poor.

Trajectories of Relational Aggression in Preschool Children by the Latent Growth Curve Model (잠재성장모형을 적용한 유아기 관계적 공격성의 발달궤적)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate trajectories of relational aggression in preschool children. The latent growth curve model was used to examine relational aggression in 3 to 5 year olds. The participants were 3-year-old children recruited from preschools and daycare centers. The children's verbal ability was assessed by interview and teachers completed measurements of negative emotionality and relational aggression. The findings suggest that relational aggression decreased during the preschool years. Gender, language ability, and negative emotionality showed positive effects on the initial level of relational aggression. Moreover, gender and negative emotionality had negative effects, however, language ability had positive effects on the change rate of relational aggression.
