An interactive image retrieval system: from symbolic to semantic

  • In this paper, we present a overview of content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems: its results and its problems. We propose our CBIR system currently based on color and texture. From the CBIR systems. we discuss the way to add semantic values in image retrieval systems. There are 3 ways for adding them: concept definition, machine learning and man-machine interaction. Along with this we introduce our preliminary results and discuss them in the goal of reaching semantic retrieval. Different result representation schemes are presented. At last, we present our work to build a complete annotated image database and our image annotaion program.

  • It seems obvious to the contemporary eye that modern technology has finally brought chaotic abundance to the present world, and provided a superficial civilization over the last century. Nevertheless, such an argument about the external phenomena of present culture does not help constitute the right track of modern technology and architecture. Rather, this discussion comes to re-signify the importance of critical metaphysics as a part of man's cultural activities, especially the ontological meaning of them. In this point, the research is intended both to re-certify the essential nature and mythic value of technology through reviewing the ancient and modern philosophical contemplations, and to examine its architectural condition against the rapid expansion of commercial material-culture.

Achievement of Korea-China Collaborative Project and Collaboration with KAHP (한ㆍ중 기생충 감염관리 시범사업의 성과)

  • Congratulations on the 40th Anniversary of KAHP, which has made great contributions to the control of parasitic diseases in Korea, and to the development of collaboration with China and other Asia countries aiming at the common interest. The 40 years of KAN/KAHP and its predecessor, Korea Association of Parasite Eradication has composed a brilliant road map to bring the prevalence of intestinal parasite infection from 84.3% in 1971 to the current prevalence of 2.4%, and to endeavor in the promotion of the health of children, man and woman, and low income families in Korea, as well as to generously share the successful experience in parasite control with China during the last half century. Indeed, the 40th birth day of KAHP is marked with great achievements and bright future.

Design of Vender Selecting System Application to Expert System (전문가 시스템을 응용한 외주 업체 선정 시스템 설계)

  • The purpose of this thesis addresses a development of an expert system to support a decision making of the vender selection. The researches related to the vender selection problems have been studied and they provide 23 criteria to select proper venders. In this thesis, 8 criteria have been used to construct a knowledge base of the expert system. The system in this thesis consists of 6 steps in its procedure. Step 1 decides a specification that satisfies customer's needs and Step 2 chooses a part supplied by a vender. The type of an outside order is decided in Step 3 and some venders satisfying the customer's needs are selected in Step 4. Some of the venders chosen from step 4 which do not satisfy the fatal cirteria(that is Quality, Delivery, Price) can be deleted in Step 5. In the last step, 8 cirteria is used to select 3 venders according to their ranking. Consequently, this program provides for a man, who does not have the experiances, an efficient way to select appropriate venders in the vender selection problems.

3-Dimensional Finite Element Method Analysis of Blanking Die for Lead Frame (리드프레임의 전단용 금형에 대한 3차원 FEM 해석)

  • The capabilities of finite elements codes allow now accurate simulations of blanking processes when appropriate materials modelling are used. Over the last decade, numerous numerical studies have focused on the influence of process parameters such as punch-die clearance, tools geometry and friction on blanking force and blank profile. In this study, three dimensional finite element analysis is carried out to design a lead frame blanking die using LS-Dyna3D package. After design of the blanking die, an experiment is also carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for nickel alloy Alloy42, a kind of IC lead frame material. In this paper, it has been researched the investigation to examine the influence of process parameters such as clearance and air cylinder pressure on the accuracy of sheared plane. Through the experiment results, it is shown that the quality of sheared plane is less affected by clearance and air cylinder pressure.

  • This paper deals with a case study of workload analysis of an operator in an automatic line for machining the race of ball bearing. Eleven machines and three hoppers are installed in the line which is operated by an operator. The elements of operation are separated into machine controlled elements, operator controlled elements and machine/operator controlled elements. In order to analyze the system, time and motion studies are used for gathering input data for the simulation model. The first objective of this study is to evaluate whether the workload of operator is reasonable or not. The second objective is to increase throughput by reducing tact time and the last one is to increase frequencies of inspection by reducing interval. Thus we suggest some ideas for improvement, and as a result, the throughput is improved about 9%. In spite of the increasing of throughput, the allowance of operator is also increased about 4%.

  • Xanthophylls are oxygenated carotenoids that serve a variety of functions in photosynthetic organisms and are essential for survival of the organism. Within the last decade, major nor advances have been made in the elucidation of the molecular genetics and biochemistry of the xanthophyll biosynthesis pathway. Microalgae, yeast, or other microorganisms produce some of the xanthophylls that are being commercially used due to their own color and antioxidant properties. Currently, only a few microalgae are being considered or already being exploitd for the production of high-value xanthophylls. However, new developments in molecular biology have important implications for the commercialization of microalgae, and make the genetic manipulation of the xanthophyll content of microalgae mure attractive for biotechnological purposes. Accordingly, the current review summarizes the general properties of xanthophylls in microalgae and the recent developments in the biotechnological production of xanthophylls.

  • Factory Automation is being implemented rapidly in almost of industries. This new trend and technology have a great influence on even traditional quality control system, and make it be changed with new approaches and methodologies. In these environments, this study has brief review on automation and quality control system, gives checkpoints of the automation system design with the viewpoint of quality control. Also this study proposes a detail system configuration and specifications of each system conponent in the configuration. In the last, a brief implementation guideline for the automation system in the scope of information technology is also presented.

  • This study was to identify the effect of the satisfaction of certification, the educational use of the company offering certificate, the system of confirmation of the same model and the demographic aspect on the companies to see if compulsory certification(KC certificate) has negative effects on company management. First, the satisfaction of certification could reflect positive influences on company management. Second, there is no statistical significance in the education from the company offering certificate as a result of analyzing relationships but education is required and has an effect on improving quality according to the result of frequency analysis. Last, the system to declare by identifying the same model has a difference in significance in sales account, the development of products and warranty service for products.

  • The last four years of joint botanical collections by the governments of Myanmar and South Korea in Natma Taung National Park and adjacent areas in the Chin State of Myanmar have revealed the presence of 20 naturally occurring species of angiosperms new to the flora of Myanmar. Plants not previously recorded include species originally considered to be only found in neighboring mega-diverse countries. Examples (e.g., for India) include Boehmeria manipurensis Friis & Wilmot-Dear (Urticaceae), Trigonotis hookeri Benth. ex C. B. Clarke (Boraginaceae) and Mycetia radiciflora (C. B. Clarke) Airy Shaw (Rubiaceae); those for China include Microtoena delavayi Prain (Lamiaceae), Pimpinella kingdon-wardii H. Wolff (Apiaceae) and Senecio diversipinnus Y. Ling (Asteraceae). The data presented in this report are expected to be useful sources for phytogeographical studies of these species.
