용제와 혼합한 금속분말의 $CO_2$ 레이저 클래딩 특성 (Characteristics of $CO_2$ Laser Cladding with High Viscosity Mixed Powder)

  • Laser cladding processing allows rapid transfer of heat to the material being processed with minimum conduction into base metal. The effect of $CO_2$ laser cladding with high viscosity mixed powders was investigated. High viscosity mixed powder consists of bronze powder and flux that is used at a high temperature condition. The mixed powder has a high viscosity that it can be easily pasted over a curved or slope substrate. The device for mixed powder was designed and manufactured. It consists of the high viscosity mixed powder feeding system, the preheating system and the shielding gas system which prevents the clad layer from being oxidized. The results of experiment indicated that the feed rate of high viscosity mixed powder was important for later cladding with mixed powder feeding. The high viscosity mixed powder and substrate must be preheated to prevent porosity from breaking at the clad layer. The experimental result shows that the high viscosity mixed can be applied for laser cladding process.

Photonic True-Time Delay for Phased-Array Antenna System using Dispersion Compensating Module and a Multiwavelength Fiber Laser

  • An optical true-time delay beam-forming system using a tunable dispersion compensating module (DCM) for dense-wavelength division modulation (DWDM) and a multiwavelength fiber ring laser for a phased array antenna is proposed. The multiwavelength fiber ring laser has one output that includes four wavelengths; and four outputs that include only single-wavelength. The advantage of such a multiwavelength fiber ring laser is that it minimizes the number of devices in the phased array antenna system. The time delays according to wavelengths, which are assigned for each antenna element, are obtained from the tunable DCM. The tunable DCM based on a temperature adjustable Fabry-Perot etalon is used. As an experimental result, a DCM could be used to obtain the change of the beam angle by adjusting the dispersion value of the DCM at the fixed lasing wavelengths of the fiber ring laser in the proposed optical true-time delay.

  • In this paper, the circuit of AC Choppers for $CO_2$laser Power Supply are proposed and investigated. IGBT-controlled ac voltage regulators, operating at high frequency chopping mode. Chopping-to-supply duty ratio plays an important role in terms of laser output. Laser input energy is varied by controlling the leakage transfomer used with the proposed system. This improved circuit employs a 3 electrode-type and Ring Blower. This improved circuit system has many advantages compared with the conventional SMPS such as simple design requirment, easy implementation, high reliability, low switching loss, and consequently high efficiency. As a result, the maximun output was 16W at duty-ratio of 92%, total gas mixture of $CO_2$: $N_2$: He = 1 : 9 : 15, total pressure of 15torr.

엑사이머 레이저를 이용한 마이크로렌즈 제작 (Microlens Fabrication by Using Excimer Laser)

  • A new microlens fabrication technique, the excimer laser lithography is developed. This bases on the pulsed laser irradiation and the transfer of a chromium-on-quartz reticle on to the polymer surface with a proper projection optics system. An excimer laser lithography system with 1/4 and 1/20 demagnification ratios was constructed first, and the photoablation characteristics of the PMMA and Polyimide were experimentally examined using this system. For two different shapes of microlenses, a spherical lens and a cylindrical lens, fabrication techniques were investigated. One for the spherical lens is a combination of the mask pattern projection and fraction effect. The other for the cylindrical lens is a combination of the mask pattern projection and the relative movement of a specimen. The result shows that various shapes of micro optical components can be easily fabricated by the excimer laser lithography.

  • Laser cladding technology was studied as a method for upgrading the present repair procedures of damaged tubes in a nuclear steam generator and Doosan subsequently developed and designed a new Laser Cladding Repair System. One of the important features of this newly developed Laser Cladding Repair System is that molten metal can be deposited on damaged tube surfaces using a laser beam and filler wire without the need to install sleeves inside the tube. Laser cladding qualification tests on the steam generator tube material, Alloy 600, were performed according to ASME Section IX.

  • Nowadays, most automotives companies are making use of laser welding in car body assembly shop. But even though laser welding is better than resistance spot welding in many points, its application has been limited to special technology for manufacturing. The paper introduces in the field of remote welding system(RWS) to improve the process efficiency of laser welding. Positioning time of RWS between welding stitches are dramatically reduced to zero. It is a kind of solutions to generalize laser welding in mass production.

Analysis of Laser Control Effects for Direct Metal Deposition Process

  • As a promising and novel manufacturing technology, laser aided direct metal deposition (DMD) process produces near-net-shape functional metal parts directly from 3-D CAD models by repeating laser cladding layer by layer. The key of the build-up mechanism is the effective control of powder delivery and laser power to be irradiated into the melt-pool. A feedback control system using two sets of optical height sensors is designed for monitoring the melt-pool and real-time control of deposition dimension. With the feedback height control system, the dimensions of part can be controlled within designed tolerance maintaining real time control of each layer thickness. Clad nugget shapes reveal that the feedback control can affect the nugget size and morphology of microstructure. The pore/void level can be controlled by utilizing pulsed-mode laser and proper design of deposition tool-path. With the present configuration of the control system, it is believed that more innovation of the DMD process is possible to the deposition of layers in 3-D slice.

  • 레이저관내에 별도의 전극을 설치하지 않고 레이저전극 자체만으로 선전리 효과를 얻을 수 있는 질소레이저를 연구하였다. 이를 위하여 펄스형 전원과 고속고전압 방전간극을 사용하는 레이저를 제작하였으며, 레이저관 양단에는 저항 또는 인덕터를 연결하여 이들이 레이저 동작특성에 미치는 영향과 자체 선전리 효과를 함께 연구하였다.

A Study of Quality Monitoring System for Manufacturing Process Automation during Laser Tailored Blank Welding

  • Welding using lasers can be mass-produced in high speed. In the laser welding, performing real-time monitoring system of the welding quality is very important in enhancing the efficiency of welding. In this study, the plasma and molten metal which are generated during laser welding were measured using the UV sensor and IR sensors. The results of laser welding were classified into five categories such as optimal heat input, little low heat input, low heat input, partial joining due to gap mismatch, and nozzle deviation. Also, a system was formulated which uses the measured signals with a fuzzy pattern recognition method which is used to perform real-time evaluation of the welding quality and the defects which can occur in laser welding.

  • This paper presents a real-time implementation method of a laser pointer mouse system. This system consists of a camera, a FPGA circuits to track a laser footprint and RF module for communication between a laser pointer and the proposed system. We first simulate the system and realize the system by a FPGA circuit after implementing it by a VHDL.
