  • The internal flow field in a centrifugal pump working at the several flow conditions has been measured by using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique with the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) particles and the refractive index matched (RIM) facilities. The impeller of the centrifugal pump has an outlet diameter in 100mm, and consists of six two-dimensional curvature backward swept blades of constant thickness. Measured results give reliable flow patterns in the pump. It is obvious that application of LIF particle and RIM are the key methods to obtain the right PIV measured results in pump internal flow.

  • Photodissociation dynamics of cyanamide (NH2CN) at 212 nm has been investigated by measuring rotationally resolved laser induced fluorescence spectra of CN fragments exclusively produced in the ground electronic state. From the spectra, rotational population distributions of CN as well as translational energy releases in the products were obtained. The measured average rotational energies of CN were 12.4 ± 0.5 and 11.6 ± 0.5 kJ/ mol for v'' = 0 and v'' = 1, respectively and the center of mass average translational energy release among products was 41.8 ± 6.4 kJ/mol. The observed energy partitioning was well represented by statistical prior calculations, from which it was suggested that the dissociation takes place on the ground electronic surface after rapid internal conversion.

  • The photodissociation dynamics of formic acid (HCOOH) at 206 nm have been investigated from rotationally resolved laser induced fluorescence spectra of OH ($^2\Pi$) fragments produced exclusively in the ground state. From the spectra, the rotational energy of the fragments was measured to be $820\;{\pm}\;50\;cm^{-1}$. The translational energy released in the products, which is 87% of the total available energy of the system, was also measured from analyses of the Doppler profiles. Joining these data with quantum chemical molecular orbital calculations, we have concluded that the dissociation should take place along the S1 surface with an exit channel barrier and also that the energy partitioning is determined at the exit channel.

  • The laser-induced fluorescence excitation spectrum of 7-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)coumarin in a supersonic jet has been recorded in the 340-352 nm region. The electronic band origin was observed at 28622.8 cm-1. Vibrational assignments for the three fundamental low-frequency modes and eight combination bands have been made for the S1 electronic excited state. The out-of-plane vibrations of this molecule have been characterized from the low-frequency assignments of the spectrum. The periodic potential energy function for the CF3 torsion, which satisfactorily fits the observed data, were also determined to be V(Φ)=95X(1-cos3Φ)-32X(1-cos6Φ) where Φ is the torsional angle. The relatively low torsional barrier of 99 cm-1 in S1 state could be explained by the small steric interactions between the functional groups attached to a bicyclic ring.

  • An analytical applicability of the fluorescence detection with an optical multichannel analyzer to organic dyes was studied in this work. Continuous acquisition of spectra was possible with the use of a microcomputer. The maximum acquisition rate of a spetrum with 70-point average was about 3 seconds. Floppy discs were used to store data for later use in processing. Laser induced fluorescence detector in High Performance Liquid Chromatography was chosen for an application. Fluorescein below $10^{-15}g$ was detected satisfactorily using this system. With the help of microcomputer, three dimensional chromatograms of time-wavelength-intensity were obtained.

  • During measurement of atomic hydrogen in a silane plasma using two-photon excited laser induced fluoresecence, laser-induced dissociation of the gas was observed. This was investigated untill conditions for the input laser fluence were determined where the effect was negligible. A measurement of the atomic hydrogen distribution was then performed within the limits of these conditions. Absolute density determinations showed atomic hydrogen densities of around $3{\times}10^{17}m^{-3}$.
