  • The infrared multiphoton decomposition of trichloroethylene-H(TCE-H) and trichloroehtylene-D(TCE-D) was studied by using the high power $CO_2$ laser. The pressure dependence of TCE-H decomposition showed that the HCl elimination channel to form ClC ≡ CCl was the major step at high pressures, while the HC ≡ CCl formation step became important at low pressures. $Cl_2C$ = CHCl ${\rightarrow}$ (high pressure) ClC ${\equiv}$ CCl + HCl ${\rightarrow}$ (low pressure) HC ${\equiv}$ CCl + 2Cl${\cdot}$($Cl_2$) The IRMPD of TCE-H and TCE-D mixtures with 10P(20) laser line showed that optimum conditions of large isotope selectivity were the low system pressures and high laser powers. The experimentally observed dependence of the branching ratios on the pressure and laser fluence, and the isotope selectivity coefficients were quantitatively explained by using the modified energy grained master equations (EGME) model.

  • The spatial coherence and propagation property of laser beam propagating through several optical components were studied experimentally by using the measurement of Wigner distribution function. It is shown experimentally that the Wigner function measurement yields total degree of coherence, beam quality parameter, and the near and the far field information of the propagating beam. More complete characterization of the laser beam was achieved by applying the Schmidt mode decomposition to the Wigner distribution function, spatial coherence function and directional coherence function. Fine details of coherence property are understood by the characteristics of the contributing eigenmodes.

  • Direct writing of copper lines has been achieved by pyrolytic decomposition of copper formate films using a focused argon ion laser beam($\lambda$ =514.5nm) on a glass. The thickness and linewidth of the deposited copper films were considered as a function of laser power and scan speed. As the result from AES, there are no other elements except for copper after decomposition in the atmospheric ambient.

  • In the machine vision inspection equipment, diameter measurement is important process in inspection of cylindrical object. However, machine vision inspection equipment requires complex algorithm processing such as camera distortion correction and perspective distortion correction, and the increase in processing time and cost required for precise diameter measurement. In this paper, we proposed the algorithm for diameter measurement of cylindrical object using the laser displacement sensor. In order to fit circle for given four input outer points, grid search algorithms using root-mean-square error and mean-absolute error are applied and compared. To solve the limitations of the grid search algorithm, we finally apply the singular-value-decomposition based circle fitting algorithm. In order to compare the performance of the algorithms, we generated the pseudo data of the outer points of the cylindrical object and applied each algorithm. As a result of the experiment, the grid search using root-mean-square error confirmed stable measurement results, but it was confirmed that real-time processing was difficult as the execution time was 10.8059 second. The execution time of mean-absolute error algorithm was greatly improved as 0.3639 second, but there was no weight according to the distance, so the result of algorithm is abnormal. On the other hand, the singular-value-decomposition method was not affected by the grid and could not only obtain precise detection results, but also confirmed a very good execution time of 0.6 millisecond.

  • In this study, manufacturing of polymer master and mold insert for micro injection molding was investigated. Ablation by excimer laser radiation could be used successfully to make 3-D microstructure of PET. The mechanism for ablative decomposition of PET with KrF excimer laser(λ: 248nm, pulse duration: 5ns) was explained by photochemical process. And this process showed PET to be adopted in polymer master for nickel mold insert. Nickel electroforming by using laser ablated PET master was preferable for replication method. Finally, it was shown that excimer laser ablation can substitute for X-ray lithography of LIGA process in microstructuring.

  • Three factors that degrade the accuracy of modal decomposition are extensively studied using simulated and measured beams. These include a beam size mismatch, beam center mismatch, and signal-to-noise ratio of the images. The beam size and beam center are scanned using simulated noisy beams, and the result of the modal decomposition is compared with that of real beams. Based on the suggested procedure, error functions of approximately 1-4 × 10-3 can be acquired for real beams. This study provides important information regarding the impact of the three factors on the practical modal decomposition and tolerances of a mismatch, helping estimate the achievable values of the error function in a real beam modal decomposition.

  • The ablative decomposition mechanism of PMMA(polymethyl methacrylate) and PET(polyethylene terephthalate) with KrF excimer laser(λ : 248nm, pulse duration: 5㎱) is investigated. The UV/Vis spectrometer analysis showed that PMMA is a weak absorber and PET is a strong absorber at the wavelength of 248nm. The results(surface debris, melt, etch depth, etching shape) from drilling and direct writing experiments imply that ablation mechanism of PMMA is dominated by photothermal process, while that of PET is dominated by photochemical process.

  • Characteristics of micro carbon structures fabricated with laser-induced chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) are investigated. An argon ion laser (λ=514.5nm) and ethylene gas were utilized as the energy source and precursor, respectively. The laser beam was focused onto a graphite substrate to produce carbon deposit through thermal decomposition of the precursor. Average growth rate of a carbon rod increased for increasing laser power and pressure. Micro carbon rods with good surface quality were obtained at near the threshold condition. Micro carbon rods with aspect ratio of about 100 and micro tubular structures were fabricated to demonstrate the possible application of this method to the fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures. Laser Raman spectroscopic analysis of the micro carbon structures revealed that the carbon rods are consisting of amorphous carbon.

  • Fabrication of micro carbon structures and patterns using laser-assisted chemical vapor deposition is studied. Argon ion laser and ethylene were used to grow micro carbon rod through pyrolytic decomposition of the reaction gas. The influence of reaction gas pressure and incident laser power on the diameter and growth rate of the micro carbon rod was experimentally investigated. The diameter of micro carbon rods increases linearly with respect to the laser power but is almost independent of the reaction gas pressure. Growth rate of the rod changes little with gas pressure when the laser power remains below 1W. When the carbon rod was grown at near threshold laser power, a very smooth surface is obtained on the rod. By continuously moving the focusing lens in the direction of growth, a micro carbon rod with a diameter of 28 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and aspect ratio of 100 was fabricated.
