It is the main problem to measure the position and orientation of a robot end effector for the calibration of robots. The calibration methods can be used as a tool to improve the accuracy of robots without change of the arm or control architecture of robots. But such calibration methods require the accurate measurements. Dynamic measurement of position and orientation Provides a solution of this problem and improves dynamic accuracy by dynamic calibration o( robots. This paper describes the development o( the laser tracking system capable of determining the static and dynamic performance of industrial robots. The structure and system components are presented and basic experimental results are included to demonstrate the instrument performance. The system can be applied to the remote controlled mobile robots as weil as the calibration of robots.

For the accuracy assessment of DTM obtained by Airborne Laser Mapping Systems (ALMS), we selected 500 m spaced test points and analyze the accuracy of the DTM by various methods including GPS survey. To estimate the height at the point in between the test points of the DTM we produced a TIN, and to analyze the accuracy we use a GPS coverage map overlaid with the TIN. Compared with the existing method, DTM by ALMS is shown to be relatively accurate, and therefore, ALMS is applicable to 1/5000 digital terrain mapping.

In this paper, we carried out calibration of laser scanning MMS(Mobile Mapping System) using Lynx Mobile Mapper, a new MMS developed at Optech Incorporated. Laser scanning MMS could be defined as an integration of several subsystems. Subsystems are composed of laser scanner, gps receiver and antenna, INS(Inertial Navigation System), DMI(Distance Measurement Instrument). These are obtained 3D spatial information by direct-georeferencing technology. To obtain 3D spatial information, calibration of laser scanning MMS is required prior to operation system, it is similar to airborme lidar system. 145 checkpoints were used to accuracy estimation. The accuracy results are about 5cm(RMSE) for calibration in all directions(east, north, ellipsoidal height).
In this paper, we propose a method to analyze measured data from 3D Laser tracking system and to enhance precision performance of a Cartesian robot. Position data are obtained over the stroke of a Cartesian robot with variable speeds. The measured data is need to model errors with several different sources. In general, the error is a function of part accuracy, assembly accuracy, temperature, and control etc. After the sources of errors are identified, they are used to enhance precision performance. The proposed method is more complete than others because we use very accurate 3D Laser tracking system.
The laser tracking system(LTS) presents the most promising technique for dynamic position measurement of industrial robots. This system combine the advantage of high accuracy with a contactless measurement technique. It is the measurement system of position in three dimensions using distance data obtained by laser interferometer and real time angle by tracking mirror assembly. After measuring the tracking error of the beam projected on the center of retroreflector in robot end effector, this system tracks the end effector continuously by adjusting tracking mirror angle to minimize this error ...

One of the oldest, most common engineering problems is measuring the dimensions of different objects and the distances between locations. In AEC/FM, related uses vary from large-scale applications such as measuring distances between cities to small-scale applications such as measuring the depth of a crack or the width of a welded joint. Within the last few years, advances in applying new technologies have prompted the development of new measuring devices such as ultrasound and laser-based measurers. Because of wide varieties in type, associated costs, and levels of accuracy, the selection of an optimal measuring technology is challenging for construction engineers and facility managers. To tackle this issue, we present an overview of various measuring technologies adopted by experts in the area of AEC/FM. As the next step, to evaluate the performance of these technologies, we select one indoor and one outdoor case and measure several dimensions using six categories of technologies: tapes, total stations, laser measurers, ultrasound devices, laser scanners, and image-based technologies. Then we evaluate the results according to various metrics such as accuracy, ease of use, operation time, associated costs, compare these results, and recommend optimal technologies for specific applications. The results also revealed that in most applications, computer vision-based technologies outperform traditional devices in terms of ease of use, associated costs, and accuracy.
This study developed an approach for improving Carrier-phase Differential Global Positioning System (CDGPS) based realtime satellite relative navigation by applying laser baseline measurement data. The robustness against the space operational environment was considered, and a Synthetic Wavelength Interferometer (SWI) algorithm based on a femtosecond laser measurement model was developed. The phase differences between two laser wavelengths were combined to measure precise distance. Generated laser data were used to improve estimation accuracy for the float ambiguity of CDGPS data. Relative navigation simulations in real-time were performed using the extended Kalman filter algorithm. The GPS and laser-combined relative navigation accuracy was compared with GPS-only relative navigation solutions to determine the impact of laser data on relative navigation. In numerical simulations, the success rate of integer ambiguity resolution increased when laser data was added to GPS data. The relative navigational errors also improved five-fold and two-fold, relative to the GPS-only error, for 250 m and 5 km initial relative distances, respectively. The methodology developed in this study is suitable for application to future satellite formation-flying missions.
We present the results of performance test and analysis of a laser radar system prototype for mapping applications. The laser radar system consisting of fiber laser and avalanche photo-detector and other related component modules was designed and manufactured. The laser radar system now has the status of a prototype for the testing of laboratory performance. Main performance parameters of the system such as laser source characteristics, range accuracy, extinction ratio, and false alarm rate were experimentally measured and the results were analyzed. It confirmed that the laser radar system prototype is performing at a proper level.

Selective laser sintering(SLS) is a solid freeform fabrication process whereby a part is built layerwise by scanning a powder bed. The properties of metal powder are dependent on the heat, it is not easy to do the exact error compensation with analysis and estimation by modeling. This paper suggests that the error is compensated by experimental method and then the accuracy of shape is enhanced by revising of STL file. Also bonding force is measured by an experiment with change of process path.

Servo mismatch, which affects positioning accuracy of multi-axis machine tools, is usually estimated via the circular test. However, due to mechanical restrictions in measuring instruments, the circular test using a double ball-bar is difficult to apply in miniaturized or super-large sized machine tools. Laser trackers are widely used to measure the form accuracy of parts and the positioning accuracy of driving systems. In this paper, a technique for the servo mismatch estimation of multi-axis machine tools is proposed via the circular test using a laser tracker. To verify the proposed technique, experiments using a double ball-bar and laser tracker are conducted in a 3-axis machine tool. The difference in the evaluation results is 0.05 msec. The servo mismatch for the miniaturized machine tool is also evaluated using the proposed technique.
