Geolocation Spectrum Database Assisted Optimal Power Allocation: Device-to-Device Communications in TV White Space

  • TV white space (TVWS) is showing promise to become the first widespread practical application of cognitive technology. In fact, regulators worldwide are beginning to allow access to the TV band for secondary users, on the provision that they access the geolocation database. Device-to-device (D2D) can improve the spectrum efficiency, but large-scale D2D communications that underlie TVWS may generate undesirable interference to TV receivers and cause severe mutual interference. In this paper, we use an established geolocation database to investigate the power allocation problem, in order to maximize the total sum throughput of D2D links in TVWS while guaranteeing the quality-of-service (QoS) requirement for both D2D links and TV receivers. Firstly, we formulate an optimization problem based on the system model, which is nonconvex and intractable. Secondly, we use an effective approach to convert the original problem into a series of convex problems and we solve these problems using interior point methods that have polynomial computational complexity. Additionally, we propose an iterative algorithm based on the barrier method to locate the optimal solution. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has strong performance with high approximation accuracy for both small and large dimensional problems, and it is superior to both the active set algorithm and genetic algorithm.

Interference Management by Vertical Beam Control Combined with Coordinated Pilot Assignment and Power Allocation in 3D Massive MIMO Systems

  • In order to accommodate huge number of antennas in a limited antenna size, a large scale antenna array is expected to have a three dimensional (3D) array structure. By using the Active Antenna Systems (AAS), the weights of the antenna elements arranged vertically could be configured adaptively. Then, a degree of freedom (DOF) in the vertical plane is provided for system design. So the three-dimension MIMO (3D MIMO) could be realized to solve the actual implementation problem of the massive MIMO. However, in 3D massive MIMO systems, the pilot contamination problem studied in 2D massive MIMO systems and the inter-cell interference as well as inter-vertical sector interference in 3D MIMO systems with vertical sectorization exist simultaneously, when the number of antenna is not large enough. This paper investigates the interference management towards the above challenges in 3D massive MIMO systems. Here, vertical sectorization based on vertical beamforming is included in the concerned systems. Firstly, a cooperative joint vertical beams adjustment and pilot assignment scheme is developed to improve the channel estimation precision of the uplink with pilots being reused across the vertical sectors. Secondly, a downlink interference coordination scheme by jointly controlling weight vectors and power of vertical beams is proposed, where the estimated channel state information is used in the optimization modelling, and the performance loss induced by pilot contamination could be compensated in some degree. Simulation results show that the proposed joint optimization algorithm with controllable vertical beams' weight vectors outperforms the method combining downtilts adjustment and power allocation.

Design tables and charts for uniform and non-uniform tuned liquid column dampers in harmonic pitching motion

  • In the first part of the paper, the optimal design parameters for tuned liquid column dampers (TLCD) in harmonic pitching motion were investigated. The configurations in design tables include uniform and non-uniform TLCDs with cross-sectional ratios of 0.3, 0.6, 1, 2 and 3 for the design in different situations. A closed-form solution of the structural response was used for performing numerical optimization. The results from optimization indicate that the optimal structural response always occurs when the two resonant peaks along the frequency axis are equal. The optimal frequency tuning ratio, optimal head loss coefficient, the corresponding response and other useful quantities are constructed in design tables as a guideline for practitioners. As the value of the head loss coefficient is only available through experiments, in the second part of the paper, the prediction of head loss coefficients in the form of a design chart are proposed based on a series of large scale tests in pitching base motions, aiming to ease the predicament of lacking the information of head loss for those who wishes to make designs without going through experimentation. A large extent of TLCDs with cross-sectional ratios of 0.3, 0.6, 1, 2 and 3 and orifice blocking ratios ranging from 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% to 80% were inspected by means of a closed-form solution under harmonic base motion for identification. For the convenience of practical use, the corresponding empirical formulas for predicting head loss coefficients of TLCDs in relation to the cross-sectional ratio and the orifice blocking ratio were also proposed. For supplemental information to horizontal base motion, the relation of head loss values versus blocking ratios and the corresponding empirical formulas were also presented in the end.

  • The Guangzhou International Finance Centre (IFC) is a landmark building that symbolizes the emerging international strength of Guangzhou, China's third largest city. It is also one of the dual iconic towers along the main axis of Guangzhou Zhujiang New Town. Arup adopted a total engineering approach in embracing sustainability and aiming at high efficiency solutions based on performance-based design principles covering structures, building services, fire engineering, vertical transportation, and façade performance to constitute an efficient and cost-effective overall building design. Through dynamic integration of architectural and engineering principles, Guangzhou IFC represents a pioneering supertall building in China. It adopts a diagrid exoskeleton structural form that is clearly expressed through the building's façade and gives the building its distinctive character. The aerodynamic shape of the building not only presents the aesthetic quality of elegant simplicity, but also reduces the effects of wind, thereby reducing the size and weight of the structure. State-of-the-art advanced engineering methods, such as optimization techniques and nonlinear finite element modelling, were applied in parallel with large-scale experimental programs to achieve an efficient and high-performance design taking into account the constructability and cost-effectiveness for a project of this scale.

Multi-fidelity modeling and analysis of a pressurized vessel-pipe-safety valve system based on MOC and surrogate modeling methods

  • A pressurized vessel-pipe-safety valve (PVPSV) combination is a commonly used configuration in nuclear power plants, and a good numerical model is essential for the system design, sizing and performance optimization. However, owing to the large-scale and cross-scale features, it is still a challenge to build a system level numerical model with both high accuracy and efficiency. To overcome this, a novel system level modeling method which can synthesize the advantages of various models is proposed in this paper. For system modeling, the analytical approach, the method of characteristics (MOC) and the surrogate model approach are respectively adopted to predict the dynamics of the pressure vessel, the connecting pipe and the safety valve, and different models are connected through data interfaces. With this system model, dynamic simulations were carried out and both the stable and the unstable system responses were obtained. For the model verification purpose, the simulation results were compared with those obtained from experiments and full CFD simulations. A good agreement and a better efficiency were obtained, verifying the ability of the model and the feasibility of the modeling method proposed in this paper.

Study on bearing capacity of combined confined concrete arch in large-section tunnel

  • There are many challenges in the construction of large-section tunnels, such as extremely soft rock and fractured zones. In order to solve these problems, the confined concrete support technology is proposed to control the surrounding rocks. The large-scale laboratory test is carried out to clarify mechanical behaviours of the combined confined concrete and traditional I-steel arches. The test results show that the bearing capacity of combined confined concrete arch is 3217.5 kN, which is 3.12 times that of the combined I-steel arch. The optimum design method is proposed to select reasonable design parameters for confined concrete arch. The parametric finite element (FE) analysis is carried out to study the effect of the design factors via optimum design method. The steel pipe wall thickness and the longitudinal connection ring spacing have a significant effect on the bearing capacity of the combined confined concrete arch. Based on the above research, the confined concrete support technology is applied on site. The field monitoring results shows that the arch has an excellent control effect on the surrounding rock deformation. The results of this research provide a reference for the support design of surrounding rocks in large-section tunnels.

스케일이 큰 무선 센서 네트워크에서 에너지 효율적인 클러스터링을 위한 제어 메시지 전송반경 (Control Message Transmission Radius for Energy-efficient Clustering in Large Scale Wireless Sensor Networks)

  • 본 논문은 큰 스케일의 무선센서네트워크(Wireless Sensor Networks: WSN)에서 클러스터링을 위한 제어 메시지의 최적화된 전송반경을 사용하여 전체 네트워크의 수명을 증가시키는 방법을 제안한다. 또한 스케일이 큰 네트워크에서 노드들의 제어 메시지의 최대 전송반경과 에너지 소모에 대하여 고찰한다. 이를 위하여 일반 노드가 소모하는 에너지와 클러스터 헤드가 소모하는 에너지의 함수 형태로 제어 메시지 전송반경을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 최적의 전송반경을 구하는 방법을 제시한다. 제안한 방법을 이용하여 싱글 홉 및 멀티 홉 등의 여러 WSN 라우팅 환경에서 시행한 시뮬레이션 성능 분석 결과를 바탕으로, 본 논문에서 제안한 방법이 기존의 방법들에 비하여 전체 네트워크의 수명을 더욱 길게 운용하는 것을 보였다.

An Optimized Iterative Semantic Compression Algorithm And Parallel Processing for Large Scale Data

  • With the continuous growth of data size and the use of compression technology, data reduction has great research value and practical significance. Aiming at the shortcomings of the existing semantic compression algorithm, this paper is based on the analysis of ItCompress algorithm, and designs a method of bidirectional order selection based on interval partitioning, which named An Optimized Iterative Semantic Compression Algorithm (Optimized ItCompress Algorithm). In order to further improve the speed of the algorithm, we propose a parallel optimization iterative semantic compression algorithm using GPU (POICAG) and an optimized iterative semantic compression algorithm using Spark (DOICAS). A lot of valid experiments are carried out on four kinds of datasets, which fully verified the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

  • 대용량 BLDC 모터의 진동 및 소음의 원인은 영구자석과 슬롯 개구부 형상에 의한 코깅토크와 전류 파형에 의하여 발생하게 된다. 특히 대용량 BLDC의 경우 코깅토크에 의한 진동 및 소음의 영향이 상대적으로 큰 값을 가지게 된다. 따라서 코깅토크 발생원인 중 하나인 영구자석의 형상에 RSM(Response Surface Method) 최적화 이론을 적용하여 코깅토크 저감을 연구하였다. FEM과 RSM을 결합하여 영구자석의 형상을 최적화한 결과 코깅토크의 ripple이 25%이상 감소되었다.

  • Erythritol is a four-carbon sugar alcohol with a low calorific value and non-cariogenicity. Erythritol is a new functional sweetener which can be used as sugar alternative. Erytheitol dose not cause discomfort such as diarrhoea and flatulence upon ingestion. The purpose of this study is to develope a novel process of erythritol economically in a large scale. To obtain a high erythritol producer, we have screened 3500 colonies from molasses, honey and honey combs. We have selected 40 erythritol-producing microorganisms, one of which yields 140g/L erythritol in 40% glucose medium. We have tested this strain in 5L fermentor to examine the fermentation characteristics. Results of fermentation show that the erythritol production was about 1.4g/L$.$hr in 400g/L glucose media with a 42% conversion. Further improvements require mutation for a higher producer, process optimization to reduce glycerol, and suppression of excessive foaming.
