  • This paper presents the design method of the DC/DC converter using flat transformer which is suitable for midium or large capacity and high density power supply. Flat transformer module is composed and manufactured of multi-transformers in parallel and has a number of parallel single turn secondary windings. Therefore, its leakage inductance is highly decreased and it is more suitable for high frequency operation than conventional one. In this paper, we manufactured and tested 750W AC/DC converter with variable output powers to verify the performance of the flat transformer.

  • The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations of large building and have some advantages when compared with oil-transformer. Those advantages are low fire risk, environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. The mold transformer is generally known to have cooling duct between low voltage and high voltage coil. To achieve better compact structure and low loss, mold transformers made by one body molding method has been developed. Nevertheless, such kinds of transformer need better cooling method because heat radiation between each winding is still of problem. The life of transformer is significantly dependent on the thermal behavior in windings. Many designers have calculated temperature distribution in transformers and hot spot point by finite element method(FEM) to analyze winding temperature rise. In this paper, the temperature distribution analysis of 100 kVA pole mold transformer for power distribution were investigated by FEM program and the thermal analysis results were compared with temperature rise test.

  • A 1 MVA single-phase high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer with BSCCO-2223 wire was designed in this paper. The rated voltages of each sides of the transformer are 22.9 kV and 6.6 kV respectively. Double pancake HTS windings arranged reciprocally will be used for the transformer windings, because of the advantages of insulation and distribution of surge voltage in case of a large power and high voltage transformer. Single HTS wire was used for the primary windings and four parallel wires were used for the secondary windings of the transformer with transposition. A core of the transformer was designed as a shell type core separated with the windings by a cryostat made of GFRP with a room temperature bore. The operating temperature of the HTS windings will be about 65K with sub-cooled liquid nitrogen. A cryogenic cooling system using a GM-cryocooler for this HTS transformer by natural convection of liquid nitrogen was designed. This type of cooling system can be a good option for compactness, efficiency, and reliability of the HTS transformer.

  • An acoustic total or partial enclosure is widely used to reduce the sound pressure level propagating from a noise source. However, the performance of the acoustic enclosure is decreased by its inherent limitations such as temperature rise or acoustic pressure build-up inside the enclosed acoustic field. In this reason, an acoustic enclosure consisting of a silencer and absobent panels with acoustic resonators is studied to reduce the transmitted noise from a transformer. Large sound-attenuation is expected by applying the enclosure to the large transformers in a substation.

  • Phenomena of streaming electrification of insulting oil(T.O) is studied where the oil is contacted with solid insulating materials when it is pumped through a circulating system in a large power transformer. The leakage current, the electrical potential at the neutral terminal point of the transformer and the surface electrical potential of the oil are investigated. And the leakage current from the neutral terminal point is measured as a function of a bias polarity applied to a transformer case to investigate the polarty of ion which is absorbed in the case at the interface between the case and oil. As a result, it is found that insulating materials, and it is suggested that the leakage current is the sum of the relaxation current by positive charge from insulating oil to the neutral terminal point and by electrification current from negative charge electrified by the contact with solid insulating materials.

  • In this paper, temperature distribution of 24 MVA distribution cast-resin transformers is analyzed by using CFD. Usually heat generated in transformer causes many problems. To radiate the heat, conduction and convection are done through the duct between winding. Considering natural convection, fluid analysis is applied to the fluid region surrounding the transformer. As a result of the analysis, hot spot temperature point is predicted at the low-voltage winding. Through this paper, heat distribution and cooling characteristics property can be predicted by analyzing transformer heating characteristic required when designing.

  • The research for detecting of insulating deterioration in transformer has been studied from long ago. Analysis method of combustible gas, which is included in insulating oil, has been widely used in detection of transformer pre-fault detection due to the effectiveness of its method. Recently the fault effect of the large transformer is very critical in a power system, therefore the on-line monitoring and diagnostic system is needed. In addition, the more accurate method of detecting a Partial Discharge (PD) location should be developed. For preventive maintenance against discharge failures, it is important not only to detect the discharges, but also to accurately estimate their positions. However ...

  • Low frequency (400 kHz) Ferrite ICP has been proposed for large area processing. Because the coupling coefficient is close to 1, the transformer matching can be adapted to Ferrite ICP. The transformer matching system is simple. In this paper the new matching system by controlling the turns of transformer using relays is proposed for impedance matching. We developed a simple matching system and characterized it when the turns were changed. It was observed that the 2-channel relay is available for transformer matching.

  • A percentage current differential relay is widely used for transformer protection. Because many percentage current differential relays recently use modified methods instead of conventional methods for deciding the operating characteristics of the large current region, in this paper, the operating region of a percentage current differential relay is analyzed in input-output current domain instead of operating-restraint current domain. An effective method to set the operating region when a CT is saturated is proposed with a series of investigations comparing a conventional method with the proposed modified method. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated for internal and external faults of a power transformer having the voltage rating of 345/154kV. EMTP-RV is used for the relaying data collection.

  • This Paper present a new structure for a piezoelectric transformer, operating in thickness extensional vibration mode. Modified PbTiO$_3$ family ceramics were used for the Piezoelectric transformer, because it is a material with large anisotropy between electromechanical coupling facters k$\sub$t/ and k$\sub$p/. Piezoelectric transformer was fabricated that is 20mm long, 20mm wide and 3.1mm thick. Resonant frequencies of sencond thickness extensional vibration mode is 1.72MHz at loading resistance 100{$\Omega$]. And Voltage gain of piezoelectric ceramics is showed 0.53 at resonant frequency of sencond thickness extensional vibration mode.
