  • An a priori test has been conducted for the dynamic mixed model which was generalized for the prediction of passive scalar field in a turbulent channel flow The results from a priori tests indicated that dynamic mixed model is capable of predicting both subgrid-scale heat flux and dissipation rather accurately. The success is attributed to the explicitly calculated resolved term incorporated into the model. The actual test of the model in a LES a posteriori showed that dynamic mixed model is superior to the widely used dynamic Smagorinsky model in the prediction of temperature statistics.

  • In this study, a large-scale direct shear test was performed to evaluate the shear characteristics of the pile-soil interface according to the fines content and confining pressure conditions as a reasonable evaluation method of the pullout resistance performance of pile considering the soil conditions. It was found that the shear stress was greatly generated under the conditions of high normal stress and low fines content. In addition, the maximum shear stress was found to be rather large under the conditions of the same normal stress and fines content, when pile surface had high roughness. The internal friction angle decreased at the pile-soil interface, when the fines content in the ground increased. On the other hand, the cohesion decreased under the condition of high fines content. And the internal friction angle and cohesion were large regardless of the fines content in the model ground, when the roughness of the pile surface was high.

  • RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat) is widely used for coastal transportation in the commercial use and for ISR(Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) in the military use. Since RIB is around 10 meters in length and over 30 knots in speed, its motion characteristics in waves is quite different from a large scale ship. When it turns, large roll occurs and heeling direction is opposite to the large ship's case. Currently, many countries are developing USV(Unmanned Surface Vehicle) of which type is RIB. In order to develop high performance autopilot and way point controller, it is very important to identify RIB's motion characteristics. In this paper, sea trial test results of a 7-meter RIB such as speed, turning, zig-zag, and way point control tests were represented and its resistance and propulsion model was identified by using sea trial data and Savitsky's formula. In addition, the state space model which will be used in the identification of the four-degree-of-freedom dynamics in the next step was formulated and the identification procedure was proposed.

  • In this paper, we consider the change request data collected from the system test of a large-scale telecommunication software and analyze the types and causes of failures. And we develop statistical models that incorporate a functional relation between the faults and some software metrics. To this end, we consider three possible regression models including a stepwise regression model and two nonlinear models. Three developed models are evaluated with respect to the predictive quality. We also discuss the advantage of proposed models and the application of our model to a new project.

  • Among various joint ventures, International Construction Joint Ventures (ICJVs) have emerged as a popular approach worldwide to developing large scale projects through international participation. A model, based on economic analysis and represented by several hypotheses obtained from the analysis, will be developed. Furthermore, we will empirically test the hypotheses/model using Structural Equation Model (SEM). This research is expected to explain why there exist different organizational forms for ICJVs, and to develop a framework for choosing appropriate forms with respect to various characteristics of ICJVs.

  • Aerodynamic performance of solar wing system has been evaluated through wind tunnel test. The test model has 12 panels, each supported by 2 cables. The panels were installed horizontally flat, and gaps between panels were set constant. Sag ratios of 2% and 5%, and wind directions between $0^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ were considered. Mass of test model was determined considering the mass of full scale model, and Froude number and Elastic parameter were satisfied by adjusting the mean wind speed. From the wind tunnel test, it was found that the aerodynamic performance of the solar wing system is very dependent on the wind directions and sag ratios. When the sag was 2%, the fluctuating displacements between the wind directions of $0^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ increase proportionally to the square of the mean wind speed, implying buffeting-like vibration and a sudden increase in fluctuating displacement was found at large mean wind speed for the wind directions larger than $40^{\circ}$. When the wind direction was larger than $60^{\circ}$, a sudden increase was found both at low and large mean wind speed. When the sag ratio is 5%, distribution of mean displacements is different from that of sag ratio of 2%, and the fluctuating displacements show very different trend from that of sag ratio of 2%.

  • In this research, stainless steel and heat-shrinkage tube were used for new TDR sensing line to solve the problems of ordinary TDR system. The new TDR line improved the sensitivity of water content and endurance, and reduced the data noise. The saturation degree test and acryl model test were done by revised TDR sensor. From the results, without additional data filtering and quantitative analysis, the raw data were separated into 3 zones; saturated, unsaturated and dried zones easily. In addition, the revised TDR sensor was installed in large-scale embankment model to perform the seepage test. The raw data of the model tests showed the distributed seepage behaviors and separated zones clearly, which were almost the same tendencies as the lab test results.

  • Recently, ultra large scale of ship is being ordered continuously and because of that, the accurate prediction of ship maneuverability in design stage becomes important matter. The model test like PMM test or CFD analysis are representative methods for predicting the maneuverability of ship. In this study, the captive model tests were carried out for predicting maneuverability of MOERI container ship(KCS) which is opened to the public using X-Y Carriage of Ocean Engineering Wide Tank of University of Ulsan. Considering the dimensions of tank, 2m class model ship was used for captive model test. CMT(Circular Motion Test) was performed for obtaining purer hydrodynamic coefficients related to yawing velocity. For getting hydrodynamic coefficients which cannot be obtained using CMT, PMM test(Planar Motion Mechanism test) were also performed. The maneuverability prediction results by simulation are compared with those of other research institutes.

  • A pre-load of bracing was imposed to prevent the horizontal displacement on the strut of the braced wall adjacent to the building during the ground excavation. For this purpose, large scale model tests were conducted, without and with pre-load on braced wall. Adjacent building load was also imposed in different locations, that were 0 m, 1D, 2D on ground surface. In this study, model tests in 1:10 scale were performed in real construction sequences, and adjacent building was 12 m in width and the size of model test pit was 2 m in width, 6 m in height, and 4 m in length. As a result, it was found that the stability of the existing building adjacent to the braced wall within Rankine's active zone could be greatly enhanced when the horizontal displacement of the braced wall was reduced by applying a pre-load. which was larger than the designated axial force on the strut of the braced wall.

  • The mechanical properties of aluminum honeycomb on the direction of axial crushing under quasistatic loading test was investigated. The crushing process was simulated numerically by full-scale finite element models. Simulations reproduce the experimental results both qualitatively as well as quantitatively. From the investigation, we suggested the constitutive model of energy absorbing honeycomb structure for large scale impact analysis. Real impact test of the WB(Moving Deformable Barrier) was carried and compared with finite element simulation. Constitutive model used in the numerical simulation had a good correlation with experiment. By suggesting the optimizing method fur honeycomb cell configuration design, relationship between cell configuration and crush strength is studied.
