This study examines experimentally and theoretically, the wave deformation by two large cylindrical structure in relation to the case of one structure. The wave height around the structures varies, according to the changes of the incident wave angles, the number of the structure, and the distances between the two structures. The wave deformation around the large cylindrical structures is shown to be well predicted theoretically by the diffraction theory based on the singular point distribution method using a vertical line wave source Green's function.
If the vibration is occurred in a large-sized bus roof, it makes people annoying and complaining the quality of a large-sized bus. So in design stage, it must be considered. To assess vibration at the roof which is equipped with air conditioner in design stage, finite element model is constructed. Computer simulation analysis and experimental method are performed. The dynamic characteristics of the large-sized bus are found by using eigenvalue method. It is related with dynamic behavior. The running conditions of a large-sized bus are velocity and road condition which followed experimental conditions. And the frequency response of a large-sized bus is well correlated with analysis result. Modal participation method is used for finding major modes at each peak. Using this method, we found that front and rear suspension system, engine mounting system and roof structure are the major reasons of the roof vibration. To reduce vibration level of roof in a large-sized bus, spring stiffness of front and rear suspension system, spring stiffness of engine mounting system and roof structure are properly combined. From this study, the vibration characteristics of the roof structure of a large-sized bus can be to a satisfactory level.
Sandwich structures, which are composed of a thick core between two faces, are commonly used in many engineering applications because they combine high stiffness and strength with low weight. Accordingly, the usage of sandwich structure is very widely applied to the aircraft, the automobile and marine industry, etc., because of these advantages. In this paper, we have investigated the buckling protection of an inner structure plate and the useful corrugated configuration for contact, and the fabrication method of the inner structure plate for large area using the continuous molding process. Also, we have guaranteed the accuracy of the molding process through the micro corrugated mold fabrication and secured the accuracy and analyzed aspect properties of the inner structure plate fabricated for a large area using the partial mold process.
The propellers used for big ships have a large diameter and are very heavy. In order to apply a precise and safe work process to them, it is necessary to use an exclusive turning system. For this reason, various techniques are applied to produce them. However, workers' convenience and safety are not taken into consideration enough at production sites. Conventionally, these propellers are designed to be separated as their turning system is loaded and rotated by empty weight. Therefore, it is necessary to replace such a design. This study tries to find the weaknesses of the design and structure of a conventional propeller turning system for large ships, to verify structure integrity of a structure in structural analysis, and to devise a plan for designing a new type of turning system. In the basic concept design and structural analysis for the turning system used in the propeller finishing process for large ships, this study drew the following conclusions. It was possible to develop the work process of the turning system for the propeller finishing process used for large ships, to obtain the dimensions for exterior design through a basic design. Structural analysis was conducted to find the structure integrity of the turning system. As a result, in the rail installed to transfer a gantry, the maximum stress was about 45MPa, about 5.5 times lower than the yield strength 250MPa. Therefore, the turning system was judged to be safe structurally.
To design a very large floating structure, such as a floating airport, we have to estimate the hydroelastic responses of a very large floating structure (VLFS) exactly. We developed the numerical method for estimating the hydroelastic responses of the VLFS. The developed numerical approach is based on a combination of the three-dimensional source distribution method, the wave interaction theory and the finite element method for structurally treating the space frame elements. The Numerical results of the hydroelastic responses and steady drift forces of a somisubmersible type offshore structure, which is supported by the 33(3 by 11) floating bodies, with various bending rigidities are illustrated.
Magnetic fields appear to be ubiquitous in astrophysical environments. The existence of magnetic fields in the large-scale structure of the universe has been established through observations of Faraday rotation and synchrotron emission, as well as through recent gamma-ray observations. Yet, the nature and origin of the magnetic fields remains controversial and largely unknown. In this talk, I briefly summarize recent developments in our understanding of the nature and origin of magnetic fields. I also describe a plausible scenario for the origin of the magnetic fields; seed fields were created in the early universe and subsequently amplified during the formation of the large-scale structure of the universe. I then discuss the prospect of observation of magnetic fields in the large-scale structure of the universe.

The effects of large rotations and p-delta on the dynamic response of a structure subjected to seismic loading and local uplift of its foundation were analyzed in this work. The structure was modeled by an equivalent flexible mat mounted on a rigid foundation that is supported either by a Winkler soil type or a rigid soil. The equations of motion of the system were derived by taking into account the equilibrium of the coupled foundation-mat system where the structure was idealized as a single-degree-of-freedom. The obtained nonlinear coupled system of ordinary differential equations was integrated by using an adequate numerical scheme. A parametric study was performed then in order to evaluate the maximum response of the system as function of the intensity of the earthquake, the slenderness of the structure, the ratio of the mass of the foundation to the mass of the structure. Three cases were considered: (i) local uplift of foundation under large rotation with the p-delta effect, (ii) local uplift of foundation under large rotation without including the p-delta effect, (iii) local uplift of foundation under small rotation. It was found that, in the considered ranges of parameters and for moderate earthquakes, assuming small rotation of foundation under seismic loading can yield more adverse structural response, while the p-delta effect has almost no effect.
The strength, deformation and buckling of a large engineering structure consisting of four ellipsoidal shells, two cylindrical shells with stiffening ribs and large holes, one conical shell and three pairs of large flanges under external pressure, self weight and heat sinks have been analysed by using two kinds of five different finite elements - four assumed displacement finite elements (shell element with curved surfaces, axisymmetric conical shell element with variable thickness, three dimensional eccentric beam element, axisymmetric solid revolutionary element) and an assumed stress hybrid element (a 3-dimensional special element developed by authors). The compatibility between different elements is enforced. The strength analyses of the top cover and the main vessel are described in the paper.
The very large flcating structure which am be used for as airport may be as large as several kilomet wide. The first order wave forces as well as wave drift forces are very important forces on such a very large floating In the present studv, the time simulation of motion responses with dolphin-moored VLFS in waves is presented The coeffcients and wave forces involved in the equations are obtained from a three-dimensionul panel method in the frequc The horizontal drift forces and mooring forces for dolphin systems are taken into account. As for numerical example, analyses are carried out for a VLFS in irregular wave condition
A robust controller for large space structures(LSS) is studied from passivity point of view. While velocity sensors are commonly used for proportional-derivative (PD) control law to stabilize large space structures, if the structure can be controlled without velocity measurements, it is desirable against the failure of velocity sensors and for the cost reduction of the sensing system. In a recent result a dynamic output feedback control law has been provided using only displacement measurements. This paper presents a passivity-based controller design method and provides an alternative stability analysis tool for the previous displacement feedback robust control law. The closed-loop system can be viewed as a feedback interconnection of a passivated large space structure (LSS) and a strictly positive real (SPR) system.
