Voids in a large rotor are formed in solidification process of a cast ingot. The voids have to be eliminated from the rotor by a forming process, because they would became stress-intensity factors which suddenly fracture the rotor in the operation. Previous studies on void-elimination of a large rotor have mainly focused on finding the process variables affecting the void-closure. But the study on the amount of void closure in a large rotor has been very rare. This study was performed to obtain an equation which predicts the amount of void-closure in a forging process of a large rotor and to evaluate the availability of the void-closure equation through finite element analyses. Firstly, 2D FE analysis was carried out to find effects of time integral of hydrostatic stress and effective strain on void volume rate of a large rotor in the upsetting process for various diameters and shapes of void, and material temperature. From the 2D FE analysis, we found that effective strain was suitable for predicting the void-closure of a large rotor, because there was a constant relationship between void volume rate and effective strain. And a void-closure equation was proposed fur predicting void-closure of a large rotor in the upsetting process. Finally, ken the 3D FE analysis, the proposed void-closure equation was verified to be useful for upsetting and cogging processes.
A gerotor set consists of two elements, an inner rotor and an outer rotor. The outer rotor has one more tooth than the inner rotor and has its centerline positioned at a fixed eccentricity from the centerline of the inner rotor. Although gerotors come in a variety of geometric configurations, all gerotor sets share the basic principle of having generated tooth profiles that provide continuous tight sealing during operation. The size of the gerotor is proportional to the number of teeth and the amount of eccentricity. The interior of an inner rotor with a large number of teeth has an enough space to include other machine elements. In this paper, the double gerotor mechanism, constructed by putting a small gerotor in the interior of a large inner rotor, is conceptualized. The double gerotor set is composed of an inner rotor, a planetary rotor, and an outer rotor. The inside profile of the planetary rotor corresponds to the outer rotor profile of the small gerotor, and the outside profile is the inner rotor profile of the large gerotor. In the double gerotor, the centers of the inner and the outer rotor are coincident because the eccentricities of two gerotors are balanced. The operation of a double gerotor is examined by analyzing the planetary motion, and a feasibility study for application of the double gerotor for hydraulic motors and pumps is performed. The double gerotor set has much application potential as a component of hydraulic systems.
The purpose of this paper is, as a preliminary step to study on the method of analysing the torque of toothed solid iron rotor, to make an inquiry into the torque calculation formula of homogenious solid iron rotor without slot. The starting point for its theoretical analysis on torque generated by eddy current in solid iron rotor is based on the maximum air gap flux density. In solid rotor induction motor, torque generated by rotor core is considerably large in the range of large slip. The calculated value and observed value on the test machine are also examined in this paper.

When we design a controller for the active magnetic bearings that support a large rotor, it is important to have an accurate model of the rotor. For the case of the flywheel that is used to store energy, an accurate rotor model is especially important because the dynamics change with respect to the running speed due to gyroscopic effects. In this paper, we present a procedure of obtaining an accurate rotor model of a large flywheel energy storage system using finite-element method. The model can predict the first and the second bending mode which match well with the experimental results obtained from a prototype flywheel energy storage system.

According to the rapid growth of high speed and precise industry, the application of synchronous motor has been increased. In the application fields, the large synchronous motor is not a self-starting motor. The rotor is heavy and, from a dead stop, it is impossible to bring the rotor into magnetic lock with the rotating magnetic field for this reason, all synchronous motor have some kinds of starting device. A simple starter is another motor which brings the rotor up to approximately 96 percent of it synchronous speed. The starting motor is disconnected and the rotor locks in step with the rotating field. The more commony used starting method is to have the rotor to include a squirrel cage indution winding. This indution winding brings the rotor almost to synchronous speed as an induction motor. So, this paper describes excessive condition interpretation of a exciter circuit to prevent starting failure of large synchronous motor. the large synchronous motor needs safety of it in accordance with operating frequent start and stop. the operating Problem point of synchronous motor appears potential element damage of Exciter circuit because synchronous motor is caused synchronous separation. hence we eliminate it and improve starting toque.

In order to extract micro hydropower in the very low specific speed range, a Positive Displacement Turbine (PDT) was proposed and steady performance was determined experimentally. However, the suppression of large pressure pulsation is inevitable for practical application of PDT. The objective of the present study is to reveal the mechanism and the characteristics of pressure pulsation in PDT by use of CFD and to suppress the pressure pulsation. Unsteady CFD analysis has revealed that large pressure pulsation is caused by large variation of rotational speed of the following rotor, while the driving rotor, which is output rotor, keeps constant speed. Here is newly proposed a 4-lobe helical type rotor which can reduce the pressure pulsation drastically and the performance prediction of new PDT is determined.

There are conditions that can be unbalanced three phase currents in a large generator by untransposed lines, unbalanced loads, unsymmetrical faults, and open phases. The unbalanced conditions can producing negative sequence components of current that induce two times frequence current in the surface of the rotor, the retaining rings, the slot wedges in the field windings. These rotor currents make the rotor rapidly overheat, so the rotor can cause substantial damage in a very short time. This paper presents the digital negative sequence relay algorithm for unbalanced protection in a generator. The proposed algorithm was tested by using collected current signals on PSCAD/EMTDC considering a hydro turbine based generator control system. It can be seen that the proposed relaying by negative sequence current is useful for detection of unbalanced state of large generator.
In this study, the damage mechanism of large scale steam turbine due to water induction was analyzed and recovery characteristics were reviewed. A turbine consists of the rotating rotor and the stationary casing, and the clearance between them is very small for the efficiency enhancement. If water induction, while relatively cold steam or water is introduced into turbine, occurs, the considerable humping is caused at the casing near the initial water induction point and that induces the rubbing between rotor and casing. Finally, it leads to the catastrophic failure. Bowed rotor has the different characteristics in the recovery depending on damage degree. The elastic deformation due to light rubbing is recovered by turning the rotor with 3 rpm under normal operation condition, but most plastic deformation due to rubbing deforms the local microstructure and that results in permanent deformation which could not be recovered under normal operation condition. Bowed rotor has diverse characteristics depending on the recovery method, and the method is empirical and needs the cutting edge technology. Careful recovery treatment of the rotor will eliminate the risks and secure the high quality rotor similar to new rotor. If any critical error is made during the recovery, the rotor would not be recovered permanently and it should be scrapped.
In the present study, we investigate the flow characteristics of a quadrotor UAV in a hovering mode by measuring multiple two-dimensional velocity fields in the wake. The experiment is conducted at Re = 24,000 in a chamber large enough to neglect the ground effect, where Re is the Reynolds number based on the rotor chord length and the rotor tip speed. The rotational speed of the rotor is determined by an optical tachometer so that the lift force can be balanced with the weight of the UAV. The velocity field measured on the center plane of the rotor shows that the vortices are shedding from the tip of the rotor, inducing large fluctuations in the streamwise velocity along the wake shear layer. The strength of the rotor-tip vortex shedding is asymmetric with respect to the rotor axis due to the interaction between the rotor and the wake centerline of each rotor is inclined to the center of the UAV due to the pressure difference caused by the induced velocity. The wake from each rotor moves closer to each other while traveling in the streamwise direction, and then is merged together inducing large fluctuations in the transverse velocity. Due to the wake merging, on the center plane of the UAV, the velocity increases in the streamwise direction showing two-peak structure in the streamwise velocity contours.

In general industrial rotating machinery is operated under 3,600 rpm as rotating speed and designed to have critical speed that is above operating speed. So, there was no problem to operate rotating machine under critical speed. But nowadays, they should be operated more than the frist critical speed as usual with the trend of high speed, large scale and hish precision in industries. In case of the large rotor assembly as the trend of large scale, using fitting method of disk or cylinder on shaft is rising for the convenience of assembly and cutting down of manufacturing cost. The shrink fitting is used to assemble lamination part on shaft for manufacturing of rotor of motor or generator in many cases and also is widely used for other machinery. In rotating system, which is compose of rotor and bearing, the critical speed is determined from inertia and stiffness for the rotor and bearings. In case of fitting assembly, analysis and design of the rotor is not easy because the rotor stiffness is determined depend on a lot of factors such as shaft material/dimension, disk material/dimension and assembled interference etc. Therefore designer who makes a plan for hish-speed rotating machine should design that the critical speed is located out of operating range, as dangerous factors exist in it. In order to appropriate design, an accurate estimation of stiffness and damping is very important. The stiffness variation depend on fitting interference is a factor that changes critical speed and if it's possible to estimate it, that Is very useful to design rotor-bearing system. In this paper, the natural frequency variation of the rotor depends on fitting interference between basic shaft and cylinder is examined by experimentation. From the result, their correlation is evaluated quantitatively using numerical analysis that is introduced equivalent diameter end the calculation criteria is presented for designer who design fitting assembly to apply with ease for determination of appropriate interference.
