  • Ultra thin organic films, (3-docosyl benzimidazolium)-TCNQ(1:1)complex, were deposited onto ordinary microscope slide glass substrates with a Langmuir-Blodgett technique. II-A isotherms were studied to find optimum conditions of deposition by varying temperature. Anisotropic de electrical conductivities were measured at room temperature. They are about $5.21{\times}10^{-12}S/cm$ along the direction of film surface, and $(2.73{\sim}4.40){\times}10^{-16}S/cm$ in the vertical direction.

  • 본 논문에서는 Langmuir-Blodgett법으로 유기초박막을 제작하기 위하여 시료인 (N-docosyl pyridinium)-TCNQ(1:2) 작제를 합성하고 이를 초박막으로 제작한 다음, U.V측정, capacitance측정, 그리고 기판과 수직한 방향의 도전율등을 측정하여 막이 잘 이루어지고 있음을 확인하였다. 한편, 하부 전극을 Al로 할 경우 전극표면에 생기는 자연 산화막(Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$)의 두께는 37.1.angs.정도이었으며 기관과 수직한 방향의 도전율은 약 $10^{-14}$S/cm로 양호한 절연성이었다.

  • This paper describes the necessity and utility of Langmuir-Blodgett (L-B) methods in developing molecular electronic devices. It also covers the application area and limitations of the methods. With L-B methods, the membrane thickness can be controlled in a range of 50 nm and 1000 nm depending on nature of the materials and layering methods. The molecular arrangement within the membrane can be altered by altering the surface pressure and nature of the layering materials. Such a variation can be altered by altering the surface pressure and nature of the layering materials. Such a variation can offer a new application of the methods to the future electronic devices. More over 2nd and 3rd nonlinearity generated in the nonsymmetric thin membrane will be used in the development of the optoelectronic devices.

  • Electrical properties of both a monolayer at the air/water interface and Langmuir-Blodgett films sandwiched between aluminum electrodes are studied using a current-measuring technique. A change in induced charges on an electrode suspended in the air was measured in combination with the surface area isotherm in the electrical measurement of the monolayer. A change in induced charges on an electrode is measured while heating the sample in the electrical measurement of the LB films. From both measurements, we elucidated that a spontaneous polarization plays very important role in the electrical properties of both a monolayer at the air/water interface and LB films sandwiched between aluminum electrodes.

  • Since Metallo-Porphyrin (MP) is very interesting compound due to its unique electronic and redox properties and it is also chemically and thermally stable, MP has been studied for potential memory and switching devices. In this study, thin films of 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis-Octadecyloxymethylphenyl-Porphyrin-Zn(II) were prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method and characterized by using UV/vis absorption spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. It was found that the proper transfer surface pressure for film deposition was 25 mN/m and the limiting area per molecule was 135 ${\AA}^2$/molecule. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of these films were investigated. Further details on the electrical properties of Porphyrin-Zn(II) derivative films will be discussed.

  • Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique is the best candidate for the future molecular electronic devices. But, these molecular thin film devices require the bulk properties that are influenced by the molecular orientations. So, this is of current interest in molecular electronic device fabrications of new materials. In this study, quantitative evaluation of molecular orientation in LB films of PAAS was performed by comparing the absorption intensities of the FT-IR transmission and reflection-absorption spectra and the polarized UV/visible absorption spectra. It was found that the polar angle( $\theta$ ) of the dipole moment is about 68$^{\circ}$ and the tilting angle of the alkyl chain is about 11.5$^{\circ}$

  • 본 연구에서는 (N-docosyl quinolinium)-TCNQ (1:2) 착물의 LB초박막을 제작하였다. LB막의 누적을 위한 최적조건을 구하기 위하여 subphase 온도, barrier 압축속도 및 분산량을 변화시키면서 표면압-면적(${\pi}$-A) 등온선 특성을 측정하였다. 그리고 전이비, UV-vis의 최대 흡광도, 정전용량 및 두께를 측정하여 LB막의 누적상태를 확인하였다. 그 결과 분자수준으로 잘 제어된 양호한 LB막이 제작되었음을 알 수 있었다..

  • Ultra-thin films of organic charge transfer complex were prepared on a hydrophilic substrate by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique. In this study, the photoelectric properties of a LB film consisting of (N-docosyl quinolinium)-TCNQ(1:2) complex was investigated. The visible light(${\lambda}$ : 700 nm) of xenon lamp was illuminated on the LB films and light absorptivity and photoconductivity were observed. The photocurrent increased linearly and was saturated at the light intensity of 23 ${\mu}W/cm^{2}$.

  • In this study, MEH-PPV was synthesized and MEH-PPV and its mixtures with PMMA were deposited on substrates with Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique and their photoluminescent char acteristics were investigated using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, and photoluminescence(PL) measurements. The surface morphology of the LB films of MEH-PPV and its mixture with PMMA were investigated using Atomic Force Microscopy(AFM). Electroluminescent devices using LB films were fabricated with Al and ITO as a top and bottom electrode, respectively, and their I-V characteristics were investigated.

  • The highly efficient photoelectric conversion of chlorophyll a (Chl a) monolayers and multilayers was investigated. Using the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, Chl a monolayers and multilayers were fabricated onto optically transparent electrode, such as ITO glass. The photocurrent could be observed according to the light illumination. The action spectrum of the Chl a LB films was well consistent with its absorption spectrum. The possible application of the proposed system as a constituent of the artificial color recognition device was suggested.
