Urban land use information is the base data for the urban planning, district-level planning, traffic impact assessment and environmental impact assessment, etc. The level of detail of the current land use information is not enough to analysis and planning. In this study, the status and problems of the current land use information is analysed. The advanced abroad cases, such as LBCS(Land Based Classification System) of American Planning Association, are studied. The purpose of this study is to develop the coding system for urban land use information classification. Through this system, it is anticipated to standardization of land use classification system and improvement of data compactability.

We are able to simultaneously extract the land surface change information, as we input each information extracted from images classified during the two periods, as the attribute information of geographic information, and then use it a parameter of GIS. Hence, this research sought to present basic data far efficient management and development of land surface, together with land use trends, by using the remote-sensing technique enabling the acquisition of the land surface covering information, as well as the benefits of GIS. The research conducted a study on the extraction of land surface change information, and made it possible to treat image information easily compared to the existing image classification methods, thereby making it easy to know the land surface change process for each pixel.

The automatic land category extraction method was proposed, and the accuracy was evaluated by learning the aerial photo characteristics by land category in the border area with various restrictions on the acquisition of geospatial data. As experimental data, this study used four years' worth of published aerial photos as well as serial cadastral maps from the same time period. In evaluating the results of land category extraction by learning features from different temporal and spatial ranges of aerial photos, it was found that land category extraction accuracy improved as the temporal and spatial ranges increased. Moreover, the greater the diversity and quantity of provided learning images, the less the results were affected by the quality of images at a specific time to be extracted, thus generally demonstrating accurate and practical land category feature extraction.

Korean cadastral system keeps graphical maps made by the plane table method from 1910's. The fact is that the graphical maps grafted on paper cover about 95% of the whole land (MOGAHA, 1999). The needs are arising to transform the graphical cadastre to a digital one in compliance with modem technologies. Korean government has already digitise the old maps until last year. A nation-wide land information system, Parcel-based Land Information System, was established upon the digitised map database. However, the accuracy of the digitised coordinates hardly meet the citizens' needs because it cannot exceed that of the paper maps. The definite solution will be surveying all the parcels again and making new digital maps. However, commencing a project for resurveying 34 million parcels will require enormous amount of time and manpower. The strategy should be dividing the country into county-wise or grid-wise pieces and surveying one piece by one piece. Municipal governments of counties, cities or urban districts will be the propelling bodies of the project but the costs will hardly be affordable at a time. For the purpose of resolving the financial problem, each municipality can split its own project into smaller pieces by year base. There is accordingly a great possibility to create inconsistency over the divided project areas caused by different techniques applied, different equipments used and/or mismatches between the project borders. It provides some merits at the same time. The people in project completion areas will be satisfied with the enhanced accuracy and feel safe in land transaction and, in turn, soundly improves overall nation-wide economic situation. Therefore, the main issue of the thesis shows how to make the cadastral re-survey project scalable. Guidelines for how to perform the projects will be derived from a experienced case.

Korean cadastral system is primarily based on the graphical maps, thus, map reproduction by excessive shrinkage or extension, map mishandling and imperfection of surveying techniques have created cadastral non-coincident areas, which caused public distrust as well as considerable difficulties in land administration and policy making. Therefore, in this study, the methodologies for the resolution of the non-coincident problem are presented by means of a comparative analysis between cases of the non-coincident areas. The non-coincidence caused by the mismatch of parcel boundaries can be settled by introducing a coordinate-based system, namely $\ulcorner$Integrated Land Information System$\lrcorner$, meanwhile, those by other reasons can be done by establishing and executing a plan that can deliver the unification of the cadastral and the land registration systems. Governmental intention and budgetary measures for securing the project expenses are essential to make this feasible. If the comprehensive improvement project is completed, the cadastral registers that define the parcel boundary, area and ownership will recover public confidence, which in turn secures land owners' rights by promoting land markets and stabilizing land prices.

This study observes the purchased lands in riparian areas of Suncheon City region and proposes a reasonable management method. For the study, the site surveying and analysis on the neglected purchased lands is executed, then, based on the site analysis result, the appropriate management method for each neglected purchased land is established. Each management method is approached from the ecological restoration perspective. According to site surveying and analysis of the neglected purchased lands, most of the sites were bare and agricultural lands. The reason for this is thought to be as when purchasing a land, the areas with higher nonpoint source pollution are bought preferentially. As for the dominant species coverage, 26% ($364,000m^2$) of the total neglected purchased land area in Sucheon City was covered with the dominated species, and for the exotic species coverage, 17% ($232,000m^2$) of the total neglected purchased land area in Sucheon City was covered with the exotic species. The survey site constituted of five different invasive species such as Japanese Hop (Humulus japonicus), Daisy Fleabane (Erigeron annuus), and Evening Primrose (Oenothera odorata). As for the natural succession on site, about 47% of the area showed poor natural succession process. The reason for this outcome is understood as having a lack of appropriate management for purchased lands. Based on the site surveying and analysis, especially the current management state of the and its location, the research site was categorized into preservation, restoration, and improvement sites. During the establishment of the ecological riparian belt, the comprehensive management for preservation, restoration, and improvement of the purchased lands should be executed.

There is a need to convert the old low- or medium-resolution satellite image-based thematic mapping to the high-resolution satellite image-based mapping of GSD 1m grade or lower. There is also a need to generate middle- or large-scale thematic maps of 1:5,000 or lower. In this study, the DEM and orthoimage is generated with the KOMPSAT-2 stereo image of Yuseong-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City. By utilizing the orthoimage, automatic extraction experiments of land cover information are generated for buildings, roads and urban areas, raw land(agricultural land), mountains and forests, hydrosphere, grassland, and shadow. The experiment results show that it is possible to classify, in detail, for natural features such as the hydrosphere, mountains and forests, grassland, shadow, and raw land. While artificial features such as roads, buildings, and urban areas can be easily classified with automatic extraction, there are difficulties on detailed classifications along the boundaries. Further research should be performed on the automation methods using the conventional thematic maps and all sorts of geo-spatial information and mapping techniques in order to classify thematic information in detail.

The Land Cover/Land Use Map have been constructed from 1998, which has hierarchical structure according to land cover/land use system. Level 1 classification Map have done using Landsat satellite image over whole Korean peninsula. Level II classification Map have been digitized using IRS-1C, 1D, KOMPSAT and SPOT5 satellite images resolution-merged with low resolution color images. Level II Land Cover/Land Use Map construction by digitizing method, however, is consuming enormous expense for satellite image acquisition, image process and Land Cover/Land Use Map construction. In this paper, the possibility of constructing Level II Land Cover/Land Use Map using hyperspectral satellite image of EO-1 Hyperion, which is studied a lot recently, is studied. The comparison of classifications using Hyperion satellite image offering more spectral information and Landsat-7 ETM+ image is performed to evaluate the availability of Hyperion satellite image. Also, the algorithm of the optimal band selection is presented for effective application of hyperspectral satellite image.
