Assessment of environmental impact of vitamin A-enhanced soybeans and hybrid soybeans

  • An understanding of safety problems pursuant to environmental release of GM (Genetically Modified) crops is considered important. Among the recognized safety problems, the possibilities of weediness and ecosystem invasion are constantly being validated. We herein compared the growth characteristics and germination rate of soybeans formed by hybridization with vitamin A-enhanced soybeans carrying an introduced gene that increases β-carotene content. We also examined overwintering, survival, and weed competitiveness to evaluate hybrid ecological impact on long-term unmanaged cultivatable land. These studies revealed that the hybrid soybeans exhibited intermediate growth characteristics and germination rate compared with the vitamin A-enhanced soybeans and wild soybeans, or exhibited traits similar to those of the maternal strain. Overwintering experiments were conducted by planting seeds at depths of 0, 5, 10, and 20 cm and recovering them after three or five months. After five months, all seeds at depths more than 5 cm lost viability. Among seeds recovered after three months, only wild soybeans retained viability at depths of more than 5 cm. Survival and weed competitiveness were assessed by sowing each type of seed and performing no irrigation, or pest or weed control. Quantitative assessment of numbers of individual soybean plants that appeared in the experimental plot revealed that all plants germinated after sowing, but only wild type plants survived overwintering. These studies suggest that both GM soybeans and hybrid soybeans cannot survive in uncultivated land even if they are released into the environment, which indicates less possibility of ecosystem invasion and weediness.

  • Since 1980 the Korea Land Development Coporation has played a major role in land development by means of a Public Initiated Land Development Scheme. This strategy has attempted to correct the market failure of the generation of large sum of windfall profits. In accordance with reimplementation of the local autonomous ruling system since 1991, the demend for local government initiated land development have increased rapidly as local governments attempt to math the influence of national local development policy. In this regards, it is very useful for urban planners to analyze the merits and dismerits of the local government initiated land development schemes in view of national agency's development. This paper recommends several mitigation measures to improve the settlement of the local government initiated land development scheme.

  • Ulaanbaatar city, the capital of Mongolia and the center of Mongolian economy, increasingly needs to have a long-term urban planning and a system to impose a tax on land effectively as insufficient development of land and the moving of nomad into urban areas increases during its rapid growth. Therefore, Mongolian government has to prepare a land management system which provides the infrastructure to improve work efficiency and service quality by integrating digitalized data about land and main facilities and sharing data between related departments. This research analyzed the environment to operate the existing land management system and working environment and redesigned database. Furthermore, it integrated all the existing systems, configured service network, and made working environment for land registration, land permission, land payment management to be processed online. With this, it provides the foundation to improve quality of people's life through the preparation of long term urban planning, clean tax administration of real estate, and reconsideration of efficiency about urban infrastructure investment.

  • Quantification of carbon absorption and understanding the human induced land use changes forms one of the major study with respect to global climatic changes. An attempt study has been made to quantify the carbon absorption by land use changes through remote sensing technology. However, it focused on past carbon absorption changes. So prediction of future carbon absorption changes is insufficient. This study simulated land use change using the Conversion of Land Use and its Effects at Small regional extent (CLUE-S) model and predicted future changes in carbon absorption considering climate change scenarios 4.5 and 8.5 of the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP). Results of this study, in the RCP 4.5 scenarios there predicted to be loss of 7.92% of carbon absorption, but in the RCP 8.5 scenarios was 13.02%. Therefore, the approach used in this study is expected to enable exploration of future carbon absorption change considering other climate change scenarios.

  • Recently central and local governments developed a huge spatial database and system using full-scale Geographic Information System (GIS). But Inconsistent spatial data through duplicated database management drops off in efficiency and confidence of administration. It is difficult to share data because of their unique system and data type. Under these circumstances Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) has been carrying out Land Management Information System (LMIS) to computerize land administration and policy affairs and to implement land database such as law, spatial, attribute data. A prerequisite mission of LMIS is to develop open system for solving the problem of duplicated data management and data sharing and for supporting various computer environments such as hardware, software, network etc. The purpose of LMIS is to reuse the existing investment resources and to expand the existing system resources. Therefore the purpose of this study is to investigate a method of LMIS operation under the existing circumstances and expansion of the system in the future. To do this, Supporting various DBMS, GIS server, Distributing Computing Platform(Unix, NT Server) is needed. Especially LMIS need to be developed as open system with interoperability to get independence of application from various GIS servers.

  • Many application using GIS has been carried out by governments and public office, and Cungbuk province has produced very effective results on agricultural income crops cultivation suit-land, since executed local autonomy system imported GIS for cope with variation of local administration environment, science of administration. The result on the selection of agricultural cultivation suit-land, in fact, offered us very useful information of the policy establishment concern with agriculture. In this study, we had analysed suit elements of cultivation : soil texture, soil drain, soil slope, soil depth and pH. ARC/INFO and ERDAS systems were used for this study.

  • The aim of this study is propriety review for underground facility surveying on development area of land for housing and efficient management. Because of integration information administration system construction of the nation and development of information technology, construction of Urban information system(UIS) to manage systematically city space is increasingly necessary We manage systematically attribute information for each lot in the development area of land lot housing that it Is connected with NGIS in order to drive gradual computerization of underground facilities and arrange the base of facility management. Review arrangement methods on development area of land for housing makes it to check safety accident of urban and to leading base of urban information. Thus, this study draw the most suitable way through analysis of driving methods and expectation effect from above facts.

  • This study examined the pharmacokinetic disposition of SJ-8029. a novel anticancer agent possessing microtubule and topoisomerase inhibiting activities. in mice. rats. rabbits and dogs after i.v. administration. The serum concentration-time curves of SJ-8029 were best described by tri-exponential equations in all these animal species. The mean CI. $V_{ss}$ and $t_{1/2}$ were 0.3 L/h. 0.1 Land 63.2 min in mice. 1.5 L/h. 1.6 Land 247.7 min in rats. 13.8 L/h. 39.6 Land 245.9 min in rabbits. and 29.2 L/h. 44.6 Land 117.4 min in dogs. respectively.   • In recent years, due to the continuous density and urbanization of space, the expansion of awareness of rights, the need for landscape conservation, and the development of construction technology, the conventional flat land use has been deviated from the conventional flat land use, and the transmission line, urban railway, parking lot, communal district, underground shopping mall, pipeline, etc. Although 3D spatial activities are carried out in the form of 3D space, there are considerable difficulties in administration to manage the 3D use of land due to the inadequacy of related regulations. In this background, for the administration that can manage Sectional Superficies, which is a representative case of 3D spatial use of parcels, which is a registered unit of land, first, the law on the establishment and management of spatial information, and cadastral re-examination from the legal and institutional aspects Standardization of 3D space registration through amendments to the Special Act, etc. and the formation of consensus among related departments. Second, in technical and administrative aspects, the registration of Sectional Superficies based on cadastral survey results, establishment of a platform for integrated management of location and attribute data, and registration method was found to be in need of improvement. As suggested in this study, by registering and managing Sectional Superficies, it is possible to manage various 3D land use of not only ground space or surface space but also underground space. It is expected to be able to register and manage lot-based 3D land use efficiently.

  • The use of private property occurs fatally to achieve public work such as road construction and appropriate compensation for land expropriation must be performed to use private property such as land. Since compensation of land expropriation is complicated and compensation target is various, electronic processing system development for land compensation processing business is required. The land compensation system for Regional Construction Management Office applied geographic information system (GIS) technology to land drawing that becomes basis of compensation business when constructing roads. It can perform the establishment of compensation planning, the understanding of the present state of compensation and the management of compensation business by connecting with land position information on drawings. We also implemented our system so that it can effectively accomplish various kinds of works such as compensation by agreement, expropriation, decision and deposit etc. Development of the land compensation system that can reduce time for processing civil affair administration and decrease costs efficiently to handle land compensation business
