1. Various gluing qualities applying Resorcinol Plyophen #6000 were studied on aiming the strength relationships of laminated woods resulted by single species [poplar (Populus deltoides), larch(Larix leptolepis)], mixed species of (poplar and larch), preservatives, treated poplar the scarf joint with mixed species of poplar and larch and the scarf joint treated with preservatives. 1. 1 On the block shear and on the DVL tension test, the mean wood failure ratio showed an excellent value i.e., above 65% and the tangential strength for larch was higher than that of radial, but it was reversed for poplar as shown in Tables 1 and 2. 1. 2 The lamina treated with Na-PCP reduced slightly the strength but the limited strength allowed for manufacturing laminated wood was not influenced by treating Na-PCP as shown in Tables 3 and 4. 1. 3 The safe scarf ratio in the plane scarf joint was above 1/12 for larch and 1/6 for poplar regard less of the chemical treatment or untreatment as shown in Tables. 5, 6, 7 and 8. 2. In the normal and boiled state, the gluing quality of the laminated wood composed of single[poplar (Populus deltoides), larch (Larix leptolepis)] and double species (poplar and larch) glued with Resorcinol Plyophen #6000 were measured as follow, and also represented the delamination of the same laminated wood. 2.1 The normal block shear strength of the straight and curved laminated wood (in life size) were more than three times of the standards adhesion strength. And, the value of the boiled stock was decreased to one half of the standard shear adhesion strength, but it was more than twice the standard strength for the boiled stock. Thus, it was recognized that the water resistance of the Resorcinol Plyophen #6000 was very high as shown in Tables 9 and 10. 2. 2 The delamination ratio of the straight and curved laminated woods in respect of their composition were decraesed, in turn, in the following order i. e., larch, mixed stock (larch+poplar) and poplar. The maximum value represented by the larch was 3.5% but it was below the limited value as shown in Table 11. 3. The various strengthes i.e., compressive, bending and adhesion obtainted by the straight laminaced wood which were constructed by five plies of single and double species of lamina i. e., larch (Larix leptolepis) and poplar (Populus euramericana), glued with urea resin were shown as follows: 3. 1 If desired a higher strength of architectural laminated wood composed of poplar (P) and larch (L), the combination of the laminas should be arranged as follows, L+P+L+P+L as shown in Table 12. 3.2 The strength of laminated wood composed of laminas which included pith and knots was conside rably decreased than that of clear lamina as shown Table 13. 3.3 The shear strength of the FPL block of the straight laminated wood constructed by the same species which were glued with urea adhesives was more than twice the limited adhesion strength, thus it makes possible to use it for interior constructional stock.
Brassinosteroid-like substances in two japonica type Korean rices were investigated. The extracts from the shoots at the maximum tillering stage were purified by solvent fractionation, silica gel adsorption chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 chromatography, charcoal adsorption chromatography, preparative TLC, Bondesil chromatography and HPLC of normal phase and reverse phase, successively. Biological activity of each purification step were monitored by the rice lamina inclination test. Two cultivars tested in this experiment produced brassinosteroids and endogenous brassinosteroids showing similiarity between two cultivars.
To investigate the ultrastructural features of rat back skin tumor induced by 7, 12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene(DMBA), morphological changes during carcinogenesis were undertaken by the light and the electron microscopes. On the light microscopic levels, dysplasia was observed at the 6th week of treatment with 0.5% DMBA, hyperplasia at the 8th week, and carcinoma in sitv or invasive carcinoma at the 12th week. In addition to those characteristics, papillomatosis was observed at the 18th week. Under the electron microscopy, intercellular spaces were enlarged in the early phase. Nucleolar enlargement, the increase of free ribosomes, the condensation of tonofibrils, and the irregular arrangement of desmosomes appeared at the 6th week of application. Thereafter, the degradation of desmosomes and the discontinuity of basal lamina were characterized. And then, epidermal cell processes were protruded toward the connective tissue at the site of discontinuity of basal lamina at the 12th week. At the 14th to 18th week, DMBA-induced fibrosarcomas or papillomas were observed.
Ameloblastoma is the most agrressive ofht odontogenic tumors and it arises from the dental lamina or the derivatives of lamina. Ameloblastoma is a benign but locally invasive neoplasm consisting of proliferating odontogenic epithelium lying in a fibrous stroma. Usually the ameloblastomas are diagnosed in the forth and fifth decardes. Over 80% of them occur in the mandible, the remainder in the maxilla. The preferred treatment for ameloblastoma is radical excision, conserving(when possible. the inferior border of the mandible. The functional and esthetic rehabilitation of the partially edentulous patient may prevent the remaining structures from supporting conventional prosthetic treatment. Patients with long edentulous spans, malpositioned teeth, residual ridges defects and high muscle attachments may be offered an osseointegrated fixed prosthesis. Osseointegrated dental implants provide a viable alternative of tooth replacement. This is a case report of 16 year old female with ameloblastoma. We treated patient with radical excision, conserving the inferior border of the mandible and allogenous bone graft. The defected residual ridge area was reconstructed implants(Steri-Oss Implant System). the result was satisfactory.

In order to improve the prediction of dynamic behavior in structures, several lower vibration modes from FFT analysis through experiments are used to update the mechanical properties followed by the updated frequencies from numerical analysis. Performance index consists of the sum of error norms between the chosen frequencies and corresponding frequencies from numerical analysis. As an updating process of the natural frequencies, the optimization algorithm based on conjugate gradient method is adopted. The gradient of performance index is calculated using the sensitivity of selected eigenvalues with respect to each design parameter. The mechanical properties of lamina, E$\_$l/, E$\_$2/, .nu.$\_$12/ and G$\_$12/, are design parameters for the updating process. The proposed method is applied to predict the dynamic behavior of composite laminated plates of [0]$\_$8T/ and [.+-.45]$\_$2S/ separately or interchangeably. Also, the mixed case for [0]$\_$8T/ and [.+-.45]$\_$2S/ is exarm'ned to check the possibility for the improved prediction generally. The good agreement is obtained between the measured frequencies and the numerical ones. Based on the results for all the cases studied, the proposed approach has a clear potential in characterizing the mechanical properties of composite lamina.

In reverse engineering, one of the main tasks is reconstructing the mechanical properties of used materials. For an isotropic material, it could be defined by a single tensile test using a coupon extracted from the structure. In contrast, CFRP composites require many tests and complex procedures to define all the material properties because CFRP is an orthotropic material and a stacked laminate. In this paper, the procedure to reconstruct composite material properties is studied by using the classical lamination theory and the test data of three different laminates from a composite structure. A sample reconstruction of composite material properties using a composite car body is introduced to verify the method.

In this paper, A reinforced concrete slab bridges is analyzed by the composite laminates theory. Both the geometry and the material of the cross section of the reinforced concrete slab bridge are considered symmetrical with respect to the mid-surface so that the bending extension coupling stiffness, Bij = 0, and D16 = D26 = 0. Each longitudinal and transverse steel layer is regarded as a lamina, and material constants of each lamina is calculated by the use of rule of mixture. This slab with simple support is under uniformly distributed vertical and axial loads. In this paper, the finite difference method and specially orthotropic laminates theory are used for analysis. The result of specially orthotropic laminates theory analysis is modified to obtain the solution of the beam analysis. The result of this paper can be used for reinforced concrete slab analysis by the engineers with undergraduate study in near future.

A four-node plate finite element for the analysis of laminated composites which is developed using strain gradient notation is presented. The element is based on a first-order shear deformation theory and on the equivalent lamina assumption. Strains and stresses can be calculated at different points through the thickness of the plate. They are averaged values due to the equivalent lamina assumption. A shear correction factor is used as the transverse shear strain is taken to be constant over the plate thickness while its actual variation is parabolic. Strain gradient notation, which is physically interpretable, allows for the detailed a-priori analysis of the finite element model. The polynomial expansions are inspected and spurious terms responsible for modeling errors are identified in the shear strains polynomial expansions. The element is corrected by simply removing the spurious terms from the shear strains expansions. The element is implemented into a FORTRAN finite element code in two versions; namely, with and without spurious terms. Results are compared to show the effects of the spurious terms on the solutions. It is also shown that a refined mesh composed of corrected elements provides solutions which approximate very well the analytical solutions, validating the procedure.
These experiments were performed to investigate the effect of saline, monosodium L-glutamate(MSG), MSG-phenylalanine, and/or phenylalanine on TH-immunoreactivity in arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus and hind limb area of cerebral cortex in rats using the immunohistochemical methods. The result were as follows: 1. TH-immunoreactive neurons in hind limb area of cerebral cortex and arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus were decreased in MSG treated group compared to the saline treated group and also lesions in arcuate nucleus and median eminence of hypothalamus were increased with MSG treatment 2. TH-immunoreactive neurons in median eminence and arcuate nucleus were increased in phenylalanine treated group compared to the saline treated group and also neurons were more increased in lamina V of hind limb area of cerebral cortex with phenylalanine treatment. 3. TH-immunoreactive neurons in median eminence and arcuate nucleus were decreased in MSG-phenylalanine treated group compared to the phenylalanine treated group and increased compared to the MSG treated group. In lamina V of hind limb area of cerebral cortex, TH-immunoreactive neurons were more decreased in MSG-phenylalanine treated group than that of the phenylalanine treated group, and more increased than that of MSG treated group. These experiments indicated that TH-immunoreactive neurons in hypothalamus and cerebral cortex were increased due to the activation of phenylalanine and decreased by suppressing activation of phenylalanine through MSG treatment.
