When structures are constructed in ground with poor bearing capacity, deformation of ground may induce foundation settlements and cracks of structures. Recently, high pressure jet grouting is widely used to improve the engineering properties of such foundation. Sometimes, the grouting columns are built in the ground by jet grouting method. They are used as in -situ piles to increase the bearing capacity of existing foundation. In this paper, as for the grouting columns built in ground by high pressure jet grouting with double tube rod, the effects on reinforcement and bearing capacity of ground are investigated. A series of laboratory tests has been performed on the specimens sampled from the grouting columns and a pile load test has been performed on a grouting column. The test results show that high pressure jet grouting has a sufficient effect on reinforcement of ground and restraint of settlement of structure.
Rotary pile consists a single or multiple helix plate and it is installed into the ground using the rotation of the helix plate. Rotary pile in soft ground is able to be supported by pile shaft and helix plate. When the pile is installed into hard layer relatively, the end bearing capacity is possible to be increased by the lower helix plate. In this paper, small-size rotary piles were manufactured with using steel pipe which is reduced to 1/5 size of the rotary pile on the construction field. Pile load test was carried out on the foundation soil which was formed by weathered soft soil. The bearing capacity of small-scale piles depends on the number of helix plate, the length of plate diameter, and an interval of plates, respectively. The bearing capacity of pile increases about 40% with 3 helix plate and it is also confirmed that the bearing capacity is improved about 10% as the increment of plate interval.
Purpose: In this study, we tried to compare marginal accuracy when produce ceramic crown using all ceramic materials and existent metal-ceramic system. Material and methods: All-ceramic systems were E-max (Ivoclar/Vivadent, Lichtenstein), Lava(3M, U.S.A.) and Wol-ceram(Teamziereis, Germany). Metal-ceramic system(PFG) was composed of Au-Pt alloy (Metalor, Switzerlandand) and overlying ceramic(D-sign, Ivoclar/Vivadent, Lichtenstein). We fabricated metal master die with upper diameter of 7.95mm, bottom diameter of 9.00mm, height of 5.00mm, and taper of $6^{\circ}$. All ceramic system used 0.5mm thickness ceramic coping, while metalceramic system used 0.3 thickness metal coping. By adding dentin and enamel ceramics on each coping, a crown with a proximal thickness of 1.0 mm and occlusal thickness of 2.0mm was fabricated. Pressure of 2kg was applied for 10 seconds on each crown with static load compressor. Before and after cementation, we measured the marginal gap at 4 points of each crown using optical microscope. The data was analyzed using a Student's t test and repeated-measures of analyses of variance(ANOVA) followed by a Bonferroni test. A p value<0.05 was considered significant. Results: As experiment results, marginal accuracy of wol-ceram and Lava is no good when compared with marginal accuracy of PFG. But marginal accuracy of E.max is good when compared with PFG. This result showed not significant. The marginal accuracy of E.max is good when compared with marginal accuracy of wol-ceram and Lava. Conclusion: The marginal accuracy of E.max is very good when compared with marginal accuracy of another group.
In this study, the seismic performance of the connections between L-shaped columns composed of concrete-filled steel tubes (L-CFST columns) and H-beams used in high-rise steel frame structures was investigated. Seven full-scale specimens were tested under quasi-static cyclic loading. The variables studied in the tests included the joint type, the axial compression ratio, the presence of concrete, the width-to-thickness ratio and the internal extension length of the side plates. The hysteretic response, strength degradation, stiffness degradation, ductility, plastic rotation capacity, energy dissipation capacity and the strain distribution were evaluated at different load cycles. The test results indicated that both the corner and exterior joint specimens failed due to local buckling and crack within the beam flange adjacent to the end of the side plates. However, the failure modes of the interior joint specimens primarily included local buckling and crack at the end plates and curved corners of the beam flange. A design method was proposed for the flexural capacity of the end plate connection in the interior joint. Good agreement was observed between the theoretical and test results of both the yield and ultimate flexural capacity of the end plate connection.

This paper describes ultimate load tests which were performed to show the effects of prestress loss and tendon corrosion on the flexural strength of post-tensioned concrete beams and the occurrence of wire fracture. Five test specimens were fabricated in laboratory with the variations of the prestress of tendons and the loss of tendon area. For two specimens, small area of tendon at the center of the beam was exposed by using diameter 25mm drill and the exposed tendon was corroded using accelerated corrosion equipment. During the tests, deflections, crack width, and strain changes were measured and acoustic events were monitored with two acoustic sensors. Tests results show that the ultimate flexural strength of test specimens with corroded tendons is smaller than the predicted flexural strength which is calculated considering the loss of tendon area. It is considered that estimation of flexural strength of PSC beams with corroded tendons is very complicated just based on the loss of tendon area obtained by one-side visual inspection.
The GCP (Granular Compaction Pile) for the improvement objective of soft ground has been frequently studied. However, these studies were the results deduced on the basis of the numerical analysis and the laboratory model tests, and there was no study method to apply the effects of the bulging failure of a flexible pile. In this study, the sensitivity of the load-settlement curves of the uniform and the tapered GCP dependant on the geotechnical parameters estimated from N value of standard penetration test (SPT) was analyzed. It was estimated reasonably that, in the very soft clay soil (N=3 or less), elastic modulus was 700~2000 kPa and Poisson's ratio was 0.40~0.48.

This paper describes results of experimental and numerical analyses, in order to analyze a reinforcement effect of concrete mat on open cut restoration of underground cavity. The plate loading tests were conducted to evaluate a reinforcement effect of concrete mat, at reinforcement depths from the ground surface of 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm. The result showed that the reduction ratio of stress (earth pressure) was about 60% at all reinforcement depth. The reinforcement effect considering ground surface settlement and reduction ratio of stress based on laboratory tests and numerical analysis was significant, at reinforcement depths from the ground surface of 10 cm~20 cm. LFWD test results showed that subgrade modulus was the largest when concrete mat was installed 20 cm below ground surface. Therefore, it is effective to reinforce concrete mat within 20 cm from the surface, when the underground cavity due to damage of underground utilities was formed in the height direction to the bottom of the pavement layer.

In this study the spatial variability of soils is substantiated physically and numerically by using random field theory. Heterogeneous samples are fabricated by combining nine homogeneous soil clusters that are assumed to be elements of an adopted random field. Homogeneous soils are prepared by mixing different percentages of kaolin and bentonite at water contents equivalent to their respective liquid limits. Comprehensive characteristic laboratory tests were carried out before embarking on direct shear experiments to deduce the basic correlations and properties of nine homogeneous soil clusters that serve to reconstitute the heterogeneous samples. The tests consist of Atterberg limits, and Oedometric and unconfined compression tests. The undrained shear strength of nine soil clusters were measured by the unconfined compression test data, and then correlations were made between the water content and the strength and stiffness of soil samples with different consistency limits. The direct shear strength of heterogeneous samples of different stochastic properties was then evaluated by physical and numerical modelling using FISH code programming in finite difference software of $FLAC^{3D}$. The results of the experimental and stochastic numerical analyses were then compared. The deviation of numerical simulations from direct shear load-displacement profiles taken from different sources were discussed, potential sources of error was introduced and elaborated. This study was primarily to explain the mathematical and physical procedures of sample preparation in stochastic soil mechanics. It can be extended to different problems and applications in geotechnical engineering discipline to take in to account the variability of strength and deformation parameters.

Reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in Taiwan have suffered failure from strong earthquakes, which was magnified by the non-ductile detailing frames. Inadequate reinforcement as a consequence of the design philosophy prior to the introduction of current standards resulted in severe damage in the column and beam-column joint (BCJ). This study establishes a finite element analysis (FEA) of the non-ductile detailing RC column, BCJ, and three-story building that was previously tested through a tri-axial shaking table test. The results were then validated to laboratory specimens having the exact same dimensions and properties. FEA simulation integrates the concrete damage plasticity model and the elastic-perfectly plastic model for steel. The load-displacement responses of the column and BCJ specimens obtained from FEA were in a reasonable agreement with the experimental curves. The resulting initial stiffness and maximum base shear were found to be a close approximation to the experimental results. Also, the findings of a dynamic analysis of the three-story building showed that the time-history data of acceleration and displacement correlated well with the shaking table test results. This indicates the FEA implementation can be effectively used to predict the RC frame performance and failure mode under seismic loads.

The objective of this research was to develop a VEPCD (ViscoElastoPlastic Continuum Damage) Model which is used to predict the behavior of asphalt concrete under various loading and temperature conditions. This paper presents the VEPCD model formulated in a tension mode and its validation using four hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures: dense-graded HMA, SBS, CR-TB, and Terpolymer. Modelling approaches consist of two components: the ViscoElastic Continuum Damage (VECD) mechanics and the ViscoPlastic (VP) theory. The VECD model was to describe the time-dependent behavior of HMA with growing damage. The irrecoverable (whether time-dependent or independent) strain has been described by the VP model. Based on the strain decomposition principle, these two models are integrated to form the VEPCD model. For validating the VEPCD model, two types of laboratory tests were performed: 1) a constant crosshead strain rate tension test, 2) a fatigue test with randomly selected load levels and frequencies.
