  • A novel iridoid glucoside was isolated from the root of Phlomis umbrosa Turcz. (Labiatae) 'Sok-dan' and named as Umbroside. It was obtained as amorphous powder and its molecular formula is C_{19}H_{18}O_{12}$. By enzyme hydrolysis it produced a stable aglucone and ${\beta}-D-glucose$. The structure of Umbroside was determined as 8-O-acetyl shanzhiside methyl ester. Antitumor activity of Labiatae plants was also tested.

  • From the dried leaves of Isodon eriocalyx (Labiatae) six flavonoids were isolated and two of them were elucidated to be novel ones named 5,7,8,4'-tetrahydroxy-6-methoxyflavone (1), and $isothymusin-8-O-{\beta}-D-glucoside$ (2).

  • Ajuga multiflora Bunge is a perennial herb in the family of Labiatae. The iridoid glycoside was isolated from the ethylacetate fraction and the n-butanol fraction of the plant. The structure of the substance was identified as 8-O-acetylharpagide by UV, IR, NMR spectra and several chemical reactions.

  • Two diterpenoid compounds, agastanol (1) and agastaquinone (2), were isolated from the roots of Agastache rugosa (Labiatae). Compound 1 and 2 showed significant inhibitory effects against human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) protease activity with $IC_{50}$ values of 360 and $87{\mu}M$, respectively.

  • In order to investigate the effects according to the concentration(o, 30, 60 and $120{\mu}g/350{\sim}400g$: saline group, I-group, II-group and III-group) of Labiatae Herba Prunellae Acua-acupuncture on the bilateral loci Taechung(LR3) in hyperthyroidism rats induced by sodium triiodothyronine injection, triiodothyronine(T3), thyroxine(T4), thyroid- stimulating hormone(TSH) and total cholesterol were observed. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The increases of the serum T3 were inhibited significantly by II-group and III-group compared with the control group. 2. The decreases of the serum T4 were inhibited significantly by I-group, II-group and III-group compared with the control group. The I-group and II-group compared with the saline group is significantly different. 3. The decreases of the serum TSH were inhibited significantly by II-group and III-group compared with the control group. The II-group compared with the saline group is significantly different. 4. The decreases of the serum total cholesterol were inhibited significantly by I-group, II-group and III-group compared with the control group. The II-group and III-group compared with the saline group is significantly different.

  • A new diterpene, mp $178{\sim}180^{\circ}$, $C_{21}H_{28}O_5$, was isolated from the root of Agastache rugosa O. Kuntze in the family of Labiatae. The structure of this compound was postulated as $19(4{\rightarrow}3)-abeo-12,14,15-trihydroxy-11-methoxy-abiet-4(18)$, 8,11,13-tetraen-7-one by spectroscopic methods.

배초향 지상부에서 얻은 정유의 조성과 항균효과 (Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oil of the Herbs of Agastache rugosa and Its Composition)

  • 수증기 증류법으로부터 얻은 배초향(Agastache rugo-sa, Labiatae)의 정유는 부패균을 포함하는 수종의 미생물에 대하여 현저한 항균활성을 나타내었다. 배초향의 유효성분을 확인하기 위하여 정유성분을 GC-MS로 분석한 결과 GC chromatogram에서 얻은 각 피크의 reten-tion time 및 mass spectral data 의표준물질과의 비교에 의해서 isomenthone, methone, dihydrocarvone, anetho-le, vanillin, eugenol, methyleugenol, $\beta$-caryophyllene, $\beta$-caryophyllene oxide 등의 정유성분이 확인되었다. 이 연구에서 밝혀진 여러 성분들의 항균 활성은 잘 알려져 있으므로 이들이 유효성분으로 추측된다. 또한 Korean mint로 세계적으로 알려져 있는 배초향의 정유는 식품 방부제로서 적합할 것으로 생각된다.
