Evaluation of Dowel Bearing Strength of Structural Composite Lumber(SCL) on the Effect of Moisture Content

  • This study investigated the effect of moisture content and loading direction on dowel bearing strength of two types of SCL. Dowel bearing tests of LVL and PSL were conducted with two different MC level, 7.5% and 19%, and two different oriention, L-direction(loading parallel to grain) and X-direction(loading perpendicular to grain). Most of specimens showed typical load-deformation curves and intersected 5% offset line. Failure modes were classified into two categories; spliting(for L-direction specimens) and peeling(for X-direction specimens). Dowel bearing strength generally decreased with increasing MC. The decreasing rate was more significant in X-directon. ESG also decreased with increasing MC, and the ratio of ESG of 7.5% versus 19% was about 1.47. Dowel bearing strength of LVL and PSL in L-direction was higher than that of X-direction. This results indicated that MC and loading orientation had a significant effect on dowel bearing strength of SCL. The average dowel bearing strength of LVL were higher than that of PSL in each loading direction. Two types of probability distribution model were chosen to quantify strength distribution, normal and 2-parameter weibull distribution. The two models showed good agreement with the data, especially in lower tail of the cumulative distribution. Normal and 2-parameter weibull distribution seemed to proper model of the dowel bearing strength for each MC levels.

  • The study focuses on evaluating the bending creep performance of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) formwork in timber concrete composite (TCC) structures. Timber-framed construction is highlighted for its environmental benefits and seismic resistance, but limitations such as poor tensile strength and brittle failure in bending hinder its use in high-rise buildings. Wood-concrete hybrid structures, particularly those using reinforced concrete slabs with TCC floors, emerge as a potential solution. The research aims to understand the time-dependent behavior of TCC components, considering factors like wood and concrete shrinkage and connection creep. The experiment was conducted in western Japan on the TCC floor designed for use in the Kama-city Inatsuki-higashi compulsory education school. The LVL formwork, measuring 9,000 mm by 900 mm, and concrete is loaded onto it for testing. The creep test periods are examined using concrete loading. It employs a comprehensive creep analysis, adhering to Japanese standards, involving deflection measurements and regression analysis to estimate the creep coefficient. Results indicate substantial deformation after shoring removal, suggesting potential reinforcement needs. The study recommends extending test periods for improved accuracy and recognizing regional climate impacts. Overall, the research provides valuable insights into the potential of LVL formwork in TCC structures, emphasizing safety considerations and paving the way for further experimentation under varied conditions to validate structural integrity.

상대습도 변동하의 휨 모멘트가 작용하는 단판적층재 Drift Pin 접합부의 크리프 변형 거동 (Creep of Drift Pin Moment Resisting Joint of LVL under Changing RH)

  • The objective of this study was to present creep and the effects of mechano-sorptive deflection of drift pin moment resisting joint between LVL members under changing relative humidity (RH) conditions. The LVL members with steel gusset were jointed by a square pattern of eight injected drift pin. Three diameter drift pins were used to test specimens (6mm, 10mm, and 16mm). The creep test was conducted under two constant loading conditions : one at 30 kgf(840 kgf-cm) and the other at 60 kgf(1680 kgf-cm). The experiment was conducted in an open shed outside. (1)The total rotation creep model of moment resisting joing can be expressed as the sum of the creep of controlled environment (3-parameter model), dimensional change and mechano-sorptive deflection resulting from the variable environment. (2)Mechanosorptive rotation creep is recoverable as moisture content increases during adsorption. Least squares method for linear regression analysis was performed using mechano-sorptive rotation creep as the dependent variable and moisture content as the independent variable. The slope of low moment specimens are compared with those of high moment. This means that low moment condition is more easily affected by changes in humidity than high moment conditions. (3)Although creep deflection is higher for small diameter drift pin than for large diameter drift pin, the shape of creep deflection curves for all specimens is similar.

지진파(地震波)를 이용(利用)한 남한(南韓)의 지각구조(地殼構造) 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Crustal Structure of South Korea by using Seismic Waves)

  • By using local earthquake data, the Korean crust model and travel-time tables were determined. The upper crustal earthquakes (Hongsung event and Ssanggyesa event) were considered as auxiliary information, and the lower crustal earthquakes (Uljin event and Pohang event) played an important role in determining model parameters. The possible existence of Low Velocity Layer (LVL) in the upper mantle was suggested by discrepancy in the arrival times of Sariwon earthquake which occurred below Moho discontinuity. Computer program for the determination of the model parameters was developed in order to screened out the optimum parameters by comparing the travel times of observed data with theoretical ones. We found that the discontinuities of Conrad, Moho, and upper and lower boundaries of LVL have their depth of 15, 32, 55 and 75 Km, respectively. The velocities of P-and S-wave in the layers between those discontinities were found to be (1) 5.98, 3.40 Km/sec (2) 6.38, 3.79 Km/sec (3) 7.95, 4.58 Km/sec (4) unknown (5) 8.73, 5.05 Km/sec, respectively from the top layer. Travel-time tables were also computed for the inter-local earthquakes which have their direct wave paths above the LVL.

하중(荷重) 변화(變化)가 적층목질재(積層木質材)(Glulam)의 중립축(中立軸)의 위치변이(位置變移)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effect of Load Variation on Transition of Neutral Axis of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL))

  • In this study, thickness 40mm glulams were composed of thickness 5mm, 10mm Quercus laminas and Pinus koraiensis laminas to study on the effect of load variation on transition of neutral axis of laminated veneer lumber(LVL). The transition of neutral axis was examined by strain variation, which was checked by strain gauge. amplifier, recorder, and strain meter. The elasticity of glulam was estimated by E = $\Sigma(E_i\;I_ i)$/I and this estimated elasticity values were compared with the elasticity values of glulam in bending. The result obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The location of neutral axis of glulam was effected by glulam composition methods 2. The neutral axis did not shift by load variation within proportional limit. 3. The estimated elasticity of glulam by E = $\Sigma(E_i\;I_ i)$/I showed much lower value than the elasticity of glulam in bending.

폐경 여성의 내장지방 및 식사의 질에 미치는 영양 교육의 효과 (The Effect of Nutrition Education on Visceral Fat Reduction and Diet Quality in Postmenopausal Women)

  • 본 연구에서는 6개월간 폐경 여성을 대상으로 영양교육과 파워 워킹 프로그램을 실시한 영양교육군, 영양 교육 없이 파워 워킹 프로그램만 실시한 대조군으로 나눠 체중조절 프로그램을 실시 하였다. 그 결과, 두 군 모두 체중과 체질량 지수, 체지방량과 내장지방이 유의적으로 감소하였으나, 영양교육을 실시한 영양교육군에서 체중 감소율이 더 크게 나타났으며, 특히 폐경 여성들에게 문제 시 되고 있는 내장지방의 변화율이 더 유의적으로 감소하는 긍정적인 결과를 보였다. 또한 본 연구에서는 영양교육군 내에서 내장지방변화율에 따라 내장지방 감소율이 큰 군 (HVL group)과 내장지방 감소율이 적은 그룹 (LVL group)으로 나누어 체중조절 프로그램의 효과와 관련된 요인을 분석하였다. 그 결과 내장지방 감소율이 컸던 군에서 체중, BMI, 체지방, 복부지방, 내장지방 등의 체성분들의 변화율이 더 크게 나타났다. 혈압 및 혈액 성분에서는 수축기, 이완기 혈압과 총콜레스테롤, LDL 콜레스테롤, 중성지방, 동맥 경화 지수의 개선 정도가 더 큰 결과를 보였다. 또한 내장지방 감소율이 컸던 군이 내장지방 감소율이 적은 군에 비해 단백질, 칼슘, 비타민C의 INQ와 칼슘, 비타민 $B_1$, 비타민 $B_2$, 비타민 C의 MAR도 유의적으로 증가하여 식사의 질이 더 개선되었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 단백질의 영양밀도 변화율은 체지방 분포의 변화율과 음의 상관관계를 나타낸 반면, 탄수화물 영양밀도의 변화율은 양의 상관관계를 나타내었고, 비타민 A 영양밀도 변화율은 총 콜레스테롤, LDL-콜레스테롤, 동맥경화 지수 변화율과 음의 상관관계를 보여, 영양교육에 따른 신체계측치 및 체성분의 변화가 영양소 섭취 변화와 관련이 있음을 보여주었다. 이는 영양 교육 및 중재에 있어 실천의 중요성을 강조하는 것으로 이를 위해서는 폐경 여성들의 대사적 특성과 더불어 생활 습관을 이해하고 만성 질병을 예방하고 올바른 식습관을 통해 건강한 삶을 유지할 수 있도록 식사의 균형성, 다양성을 포함한 권장 식사 지침을 제시하고, 적당한 식품 섭취량을 포함한 종합적인 프로그램을 개발하여야 할 것이다. 또한 이러한 페경 여성을 위한 전문적이며 체계적인 프로그램을 통해 폐경 이후 체중 및 체지방 증가를 예방하고, 나아가 만성질병을 예방, 관리할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • To investigate the influence of cross section geometries on the behavior of composite beams in the case of small span to depth ratio and deep beams. the static flexural behavior of composite I-beams and Box- beams was evaluated. 12 types of composite I -beams composed of LVL flanges and particleboard or plywood web and 3 types of composite Box-beams composed of LVL flanges and plywood web were tested under one-point loading. The load-deflection curves were almost linear to failure, therefore, the behavior of tested composite beams was elastic. The theoretical flexural rigidity of composite beams was calculated and compared with observed flexural rigidity. The highest value was found in I-W type beams and the lowest value was found in G-P type beams. The difference between theoretical and observed flexural rigidity was small. Theoretical total deflection of tested composite beams was calculated using flexural rigidity and compared with actual deflection. Shear deflection of these beams was evaluated by the approximation method, solid crosss section method and elementary method. The difference between actual deflection and expected deflection was not found in D, E and F type beams. This defference was small in G, H and I type beams or Box-beam.

유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 뉴질랜드 Ngauruhoe 화산 하부의 수신함수 역산 (Receiver Function Inversion Beneath Ngauruhoe Volcano, New Zealand, using the Genetic Algorithm)

  • 뉴질랜드 Ngauruhoe 화산에 설치된 OTVZ 지진관측소 하부의 S파속도(${\nu}_s$)를 규명하기 위해, 2011년 11월 11일에서 2013년 9월 11일까지 기록된 원거리 지진자료($Mw{\geq}5.5$) 중에서 신호 대 잡음비가 높은 127개의 자료만을 이용하여 수신함수를 계산하였다. 수신함수는 시간영역에서 반복적 곱풀기 방법으로 계산되었으며, 21개의 수신함수에 유전자 알고리즘을 적용하여 역산을 실시하였다. 역산으로부터 구한 관측소 하부의 1차원 속도모델은 ${\nu}_s$가 3.7 km/s에서 4.7 km/s로 급격히 변하는 모호면이 14 km 깊이에 존재하며, 지각의 평균 ${\nu}_s$는 3.4 km/s임을 보인다. 하부지각에는 평균 ${\bar}{\nu}_s$ 가 3.1 km/s인 저속도층이 두께 9 km 이내로 존재하며, 관측소에서 멀어질수록 두께가 얇아지는 것으로 분석된다. 또한, 상부맨틀에도 ${\nu}_s$가 4.3 km/s 이하인 저속도층이 10 km 이상의 두께로 존재하며, 이러한 하부지각과 상부맨틀 내에 존재하는 저속도층과 상대적으로 얇은 지각은 태평양판의 섭입에 따른 마그마 활동과 관련이 있을 것으로 추정된다.

GFRP적층판을 활용한 보강보부재와 원통형 단판적층기둥재 접합부의 내력 성능평가 (Structural Performance of Joints for Partial Reinforced Beam Using GFRP Laminated Plate and Cylindrical Reinforced LVL Column)

  • 합판과 유리섬유강화플라스틱을 조합하여 적층 후 $1.96N/mm^2$의 압력으로 $150^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 고밀화시킨 유리섬유 강화플라스틱 적층판을 제작하였다. 제작된 5가지의 유리섬유강화플라스틱 적층판을 각각 기둥재와 접하는 집성재에 부착하여 부분보강보부재를 제작하였다. 더불어 합판과 시트형 유리섬유강화플라스틱을 적층한 보강적층목재핀과 유리섬유로 보강한 원통형 단판적층기둥재로 기둥-보 접합부를 제작하였다. 기준시험편으로는 원주목과 집성재로 제작한 보부재, 드리프트핀을 사용한 접합부를 제작하여 모멘트 저항 내력을 평가하였다. 시험결과 기준시험편과 비교하여 부분보강보부재를 사용한 시험체들이 평균 1.8배 높은 내력성능이 측정되었다. 모든 부분보강보부재와 원통형 단판적층기둥재에는 파단이 발생하지 않았으며 접합부의 인성과 강성이 모두 양호하게 측정되었다. 부분보강보부재의 보강효과는 시트형 유리섬유강화플라스틱이 직물형 유리섬유강화플라스틱으로 보강한 적층판보다 양호한 보강효과를 보였으며, 시트형 유리섬유강화플라스틱을 각층에 삽입한 적층판이 접합내력과 변형각 모두 양호하여 보부재의 부분보강에 적합한 것을 확인하였다.

  • An evaluation of bending test of composite I and Box beams for determining the ultimate strength limit design criteria was presented. Maxium loads of composite I beams were found in beams composed of thicker upper flanges and/or vertical LVL flanges. These loads of plywood web beams were greater than those of PB web beams. Maximum loads of unsymmetrical box beams were less than those of symmetrical box beams. Thus, it took on different phase in box type beams. Ultimate loads of composite beams were greater than those of solid. The failure of composite beams were abrupt and failure mode was classified into following categories; Edgewise shear failure in web, delamination in flange-web joint, tension failure and tearing in LVL flanges, and web delamination. These failures of composite beams were appeared at the mixed mode. The influence factor affecting the performance of tested composite beams was shear strength of PB-web composite beams and compressive strength in plywood-web composite beams. It was also assumed that the influence factors on structural performance on composite beams were flange quality, web material and geometry of cross section. As one of the design methods resisting to compressive stress that was required in the case of small span to depth ratio and deep beams. composite I-beams composed of thicker upper flanges comparing to lower flanges were very effective in structural performance.
