  • A comprehensive study has been made for the investigation of the convergence and stability characteristics of the LU scheme for solving the Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes. For this purpose the characteristics of the LU scheme was initially studied for a scalar model equation. Then the analysis was extended to the Navier-Stokes equations. It was shown that the LU scheme has an inherent stiffness in the streamwise direction. This stiffness increases when the grid aspect ratio becomes high and the cell Reynolds number becomes small. It was also shown that the stiffness related to the grid aspect ratio can be effectively eliminated by performing proper subiteration. The results were validated for a flat-plate turbulent flow.

  • A comprehensive study has been made for the investigation of the convergence and stability characteristics of the LU scheme for solving the Euler equations on unstructured meshes. The von Neumann stability analysis technique was initially applied to a scalar model equation, and then the analysis was extended to the Euler equations. The results indicated that the convergence rate is governed by a specific combination of flow parameters. Based on this insight, it was shown that the LU scheme does not suffer any convergence deterioration at all grid aspect ratios, as long as the local time step is defined using an appropriate parameter combination.

  • In this study, we consider a location-based location update (LU) scheme. We propose an enhanced LU (ELU) scheme that can store more cells to reduce the location update cost of the LU scheme and show that the ELU scheme always outperforms the LU scheme. Our scheme can be easily implemented in actual cellular systems.

  • A comprehensive study has been made for the investigation of the convergence characteristics of the LU scheme for the Euler equations using von Neumann stability analysis. The stability results indicate that the convergence rate is governed by a specific parameter combination. Based on this insight it is shown that the LU scheme will not suffer convergence deterioration at any grid aspect ration if the local time step is defined using appropriate parameter combination. The numerical results demonstrate that this time step definition gives uniform convergence for grid aspect ratios from one to $1\times10^4$.

  • For a dynamic analysis of a constrained multibody system, it is necessary to have a routine for satisfying kinematic constraints. LU decomposition scheme, which is used to divide coordinates into dependent and independent coordinates, is efficient but has great difficulty near the singular configuration. Other method such as the projection matrix, which is more stable near a singular configuration, takes longer simulation time due to the large amount of calculation for decomposition. In this paper, the row space and the null space of the Jacobian matrix are proposed by using the pseudo-inverse method and the projection matrix. The equations of the motion of a system are replaced with independent acceleration components using the null space of the Jacobian matrix. Also a new hybrid method is proposed, combining the LU decomposition and the projection matrix. The proposed hybrid method has following advantages. (1) The simulation efficiency is preserved by the LU method during the simulation. (2) The accuracy of the solution is also achieved by the projection method near the singular configuration.

  • The increasing number of subscribers and demand of multiplicity of services has turned Multi-Server Authentication (MSA) into an integral part of remote authentication paradigm. MSA not only offers an efficient mode to register the users by engaging a trusted third party (Registration Centre), but also a cost-effective architecture for service procurement, onwards. Recently, Lu et al.'s scheme demonstrated that Mishra et al.'s scheme is unguarded to perfect forward secrecy compromise, server masquerading, and forgery attacks, and presented a better scheme. However, we discovered that Lu et al.'s scheme is still susceptible to malicious insider attack and non-compliant to perfect forward secrecy. This study presents a critical review on Lu et al.'s scheme and then proposes a secure multi-server authentication scheme. The security properties of contributed work are validated with automated Proverif tool and proved under formal security analysis.

  • A study has been made for the investigation of the robustness and convergence of various implicit operators of the LU-SGS scheme using linear stability analysis. It is shown that the behavior of the implicit operator is not determined by its own characteristics, but is determined relatively depending on the dissipative property of the explicit operator. It is also shown that, as the dissipation level of the implicit operator increases, the robustness of the scheme increases, but the convergence rate can be deteriorated due to the excessive dissipation. The numerical results demonstrate that the dissipation level of the impliict operator needs to be higher than that of the explicit operator for computing stiff problems.

  • A robust Navier-Stokes code has been developed to efficiently predict hypersonic flows in chemical nonequilibrium. The HLLE+ flux discretization scheme is used to improve accuracy and robustness of hypersonic flow analysis. An efficient LU approximate factorization method is also used to solve the flow equations and species continuity equations in fully coupled fashion to implicitly treat stiff source terms of chemical reactions. The HLLE+ scheme shows lower grid dependency for the wall heating rates than other schemes. The developed code has been used to compute chemical nonequilibrium air flow through expanding hypersonic nozzle and past two and three dimensional blunt-nosed bodies. The results are in good agreement with existing numerical and experimental results.

  • In the present study, an efficient implementation technique of the van Leer's implicit operator is suggested in accordance with the Roe's explicit operator. By using an efficient treatment of the off-diagonal terms, which occupy most of the memory requirement for the linear system of equations, it is shown that the improved scheme only requires less than 30% of memory and is approximately 10-20% faster than the baseline scheme.

  • The time implicit point SGS scheme is applied to compute hypersonic viscous flows in thermochemical nonequilibrium. The performance of the point SGS scheme is then compared with those of the line SGS and the LU-SGS schemes. Comparison of convergence histories with the effect of multiple forward and backward sweeps are made for the flow over a 2D cylinder experimentally studied by Hornung and the flow over a hemisphere at conditions corresponding to the peak heating condition during the reentry flight of an SSTO vehicle. Results indicate that the point SGS scheme with multiple sweeps is as robust and efficient as the line SGS scheme. For the point SGS and the LU-SGS scheme, the rate of improvement in convergence is largest with two sweep cycles. However, for the line SGS scheme, it is found that more than one sweep cycle deteriorates the convergence rate.
