  • TPS (Train Performance Simulation) based on ATO (Automatic Train Operation) is required for driverless LRT (Light Rail Transit) operation plan instead of typical TPS based on driver operation. In this paper, new TPS model using ATO pattern is proposed and compared with the automatic train operation result in a test line of Seoul Metro Line 6 and in a whole line of Busan-Gimhae LRT. The actual ATO pattern can be very accurately simulated by new TPS model with the introduction of 4 parameters such as commercial braking rate, jerk, station stop profile and grade converted distance. The commercial scheduled time for driverless automatic train operation can be proposed to have "Fast" mode TPS trip time plus 3 seconds/km margin recommended by Korean standard LRT specification in this paper.

  • A mid-size RC test apparatus (MRCA) equipped with a program is developed that can test samples up to D=10 cm diameter and H=20 cm height which are larger than usual samples used in practice. Using the developed RC test apparatus, two types of crushed trackbed foundation materials were tested in order to get the shear modulus reduction curves of the materials with changing of shear strain levels. For comparison purpose, large repetitive triaxial compression tests (LRT) with samples of height H=60cm and diameter D=30 cm were performed also. Resilient modulus obtained from the LRT was converted to shear modulus by considering elastic theory and strain level conversion and were compared to shear modulus values from the MRCA. It is found from this study that the MRCA can be used to test the trackbed foundation materials properly. It is found also that strain levels of $E_{v2}$ mostly used in the field should be verified considering the shear modulus reduction curves and proper values of $E_{v2}$ of trackbed foundation must be used considering the strain level verified.

  • We develop in this paper the likelihood ratio test (LRT) for testing $H_1 : F_1 \preceq F_2$ against $H_2 - H_1$ where $H_2$ imposes no restriction on $F_1$ and $F_2$ and '$\preceq$' means failure rate ordering. Both one and two-sample problems will be considered. In the one-sample case, one of the two distributions is known, while we assume in the other case both are unknown. We derive the asymptotic null distribution of the LRT statistic which will be of chi-bar-square type. The main issue here is to determine the least favorable distribution which is stochastically largest within the class of null distributions.

  • We propose a new speech enhancement algorithm based on left-right Hidden Markov Model (HMM) with state decision using Log-likelihood Ratio Test (LRT). Since the conventional HMM-based speech enhancement methods try to improve speech quality for all states, they introduce huge computational loads inappropriate to real-time implementation. In the left-right HMM, only the current and the next state are considered for a possible state transition so to reduce the computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a method to decide the current state by using the LRT on the previous state. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the speed up to 60% with 0.2∼0.4 dB degradation of speech quality compared to the conventional method.

  • Voice activity detectors (VAD) are important in wireless communication and speech signal processing, In the conventional VAD methods, an expression for the likelihood ratio test (LRT) based on statistical models is derived in discrete Fourier transform (DFT) domain, Then, speech or noise is decided by comparing the value of the expression with a threshold, This paper presents a new statistical VAD method based on a signal subspace approach, The probabilistic principal component analysis (PPCA) is employed to obtain a signal subspace model that incorporates probabilistic model of noisy signal to the signal subspace method, The proposed approach provides a novel decision rule based on LRT in the signal subspace domain, Experimental results show that the proposed signal subspace model based VAD method outperforms those based on the widely used Gaussian distribution in DFT domain.

  • The minimum negative exponential disparity estimator(MNEDE), introduced by Lindsay(1994), is an excellenet competitor to the minimum Hellinger distance estimator(Beran 1977) as a robust and yet efficient alternative to the maximum likelihood estimator in parametric models. In this paper we define the negative exponential deviance test(NEDT) as an analog of the likelihood ratio test(LRT), and show that the NEDT is asymptotically equivalent to he LRT at the model and under a sequence of contiguous alternatives. We establish that the asymptotic strong breakdown point for a class of minimum disparity estimators, containing the MNEDE, is at least 1/2 in continuous models. This result leads us to anticipate robustness of the NEDT under data contamination, and we demonstrate it empirically. In fact, in the simulation settings considered here the empirical level of the NEDT show more stability than the Hellinger deviance test(Simpson 1989). The NEDT is illustrated through an example data set. We also define a goodness-of-fit statistic to assess adequacy of a specified parametric model, and establish its asymptotic normality under the null hypothesis.

  • Modern systems development becomes more and more complicated due to the need on the ever-increasing capability of the systems. In addition to the complexity issue, safety concern is also increasing since the malfunctions of the systems under development may result in the accidents in both the test and evaluation phase and the operation phase. Light rail transit(LRT) with passenger capacity between bus and subway is driven by an unmanned control, so safety issues of LRT in emergency shall be considered more carefully than other rolling stock. Modern railway system is a complex system and many actions in emergency are required. In this view, interoperability approach is effective to identify the related elements in emergency. In this paper, we propose the method to generate the fire response scenario of unmann ed LRT based on the outputs of systems engineering architecture design methodology. The proposed method is could be contributed to establish more reliable and applicable fire response scenario.

  • Passive safety systems are integrated into the latest generation of Light Water Reactors (LWRs), including small modular reactors. This paper employs the US-NRC TRACE thermal hydraulic code to examine the performance of a passive safety condenser known as SACO, designed to serve as the ultimate heat sink for dissipating decay heat during accident scenarios. The TRACE model is constructed with reference to the PKL/SACO test facility. The safety condenser (SACO) is interconnected with the PKL facility via the secondary side of steam generator 1, effectively serving as a third natural circulation cooling loop during accident scenarios. In the present research, the thermal-hydraulic behavior of the PKL facility is investigated in the presence of the SACO passive safety system during an extended SBO with Loss of AC Power accident scenario. This SBO can be categorized into three distinct phases depending on the activation of the SACO system and the refilling process of the SACO pool. The first phase is depressurizing using primary and secondary relief valves, the second phase is cooling down using SACO system, and the third phase is the refilling of SACO pool. The findings indicate that the SACO system effectively manages to dissipate all decay heat, even though there is temporary evaporation of the SACO water pool. Furthermore, this study provides sensitivity analysis for the assessments of system codes on the selection of maximum time step.
