  • Demand of LPG and LNG will increase continuously due to high calories, clearness, and convenience for usage. These gases are used widely for power plants, industrial plants, and domestic fuel. But accidents related with gas are increasing in proportion to increment of gas usage. Especially LPG has high ignitability due to weak dispersion to air and accumulation at low place because LPG is heavier than air. There are many hazards during transportation as well as production, storage, and usage of LPG. Commonly, tank lorry is used for inland transportation of LPG. If tank lorry were to raise leakage incidents and then LPG released during transporting, the accidents cause serious effects on the environment as well as human damage of surrounding area. In this study, therefore, hazards which cause LPG of tank lorry to leak during transportation were identified and risk of LPG transportation was assessed quantitatively. Also, the result of this study might be a useful measure for predicting damage and preparing safe transportation strategies of LPG tank lorry.

  • In the safety control and business of liquefied petroleum gas act, LPG supply using bulk lorry of liquefied petroleum gas dealer is possible only to small storage tanks of less than 3 tons in bulk lorry less 10 tons. The government has announced plans to extend the bulk lorry supply to storage tanks of less than 10 tons, reflecting improved safety management capabilities of liquefied petroleum gas dealer. Therefore, in order to supply LPG to the storage tank stably through the bulk lorry, the technical evaluation of the existing bulk lorry LPG supply system is needed. In this study, we will investigate the status of LPG supply system in Korea through bulk lorry and investigate safe LPG supply method. First, we conducted a survey on the supply of LPG storage tanks through bulk lorry to related companies to collect basic data. Based on the results of the surveys, we will conduct field surveys to provide basic data for stable LPG supply.

  • LPG is a substance that requires a lot of attention because it can cause fatal damage to people and environment when an accident occurs. LPG is frequently accidents in transportation facilities as well as fixed facilities, among which LPG tank lorries are the most frequent accidents. When the LPG tank is evacuated, the LP gas leaks into two phases, leaks mostly to the gas and leaks to some liquid. At this time, the leaked gas will also sink downward because it is heavier than air, and if it continues to leak, it may form an explosion and explode by the ignition source. The purpose of this study is to present the evacuation distance by analyzing the effect distance of the LPG liquefied petroleum gas in the event of explosion. As a result of calculation of the scattering radius of the fragment, the cylinder fragment was scattered up to 561 m. Therefore, it is appropriate to set the distance to be escaped when the LPG tanker leaks to 561m or more.

Corrosion properties of the 6/4 forged brass for the coupler transferring LPG between tank lorry and LPG station (LPG 충전소와 탱크로리의 가스 이$\cdot$충전 접속장치 커플러용 6/4 단조 황동의 부식특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to investigate the damage mechanism of the coupler transferring LPG, microstructural observation and chemical analysis of the couplers operated for the long time in the LPG stations and virgin 6/4 forged-brass corrosion-tested were conducted. Their microstructure was consisted of two phases that bright $\beta$ precipitates were irregularly dispersed in $\alpha$ matrix. The chemical compositions of oxide layer on the surface of the used coupler were composed of S, C, O, Al, Si, etc. as well as Cu and Zn. In environmental corrosion tests of both $10\%$ HCl and Mattsson solutions, no apparent deviations in mechanical impact strength of forged-brass was observed. While, in U-bend stress corrosion cracking specimen, some microcracks were observed.

  • The advancement of industry have increased domestic energy demands and energy facilities such as storage facility, compressed gas pipe, station, and tank lorry. Also, concern about environment have diversified energy source to clean energy such as LNG. In these major energy facilities, major accident can happen to result in fire, explosion, toxic release and etc. In addition, it may cause chain accidents to the adjacent energy facilities. In this research, safety assessment was performed through the consequence analysis of LPG liquefied petroleum gas) station, gasoline station and LNG(liquiefied natural gas) station. The obtained result will be helpful to make a safety guideline of the LPG/LNG station built adjacent to the gasoline station.

  • There are lots of energy facilities using gas(storage facility, compressed gas pipe, station, tank lorry) on the domestic. These major gas facilities cause major accidents associated with fire, explosion, toxic and etc. With the increased interest in reducing air pollution, supply of natural gas for gas vehicles is increasing. Thus, the number of establishments of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and CNG(Compressed Natural Gas) stations is increasing as well. However, due to major gas accidents such as the fire and explosion accident of a Buchen LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) station, it is difficult to establish a new station. In this research, we present quantitative risk assessment for LCNG;LNG multi-station and compare it result against individual risk criteria of HSE.
