Relationship Between Gait Symmetry and Functional Balance, Walking Performance in Subjects with Stroke (뇌졸중 환자의 보행 대칭성과 기능적 균형 및 보행과의 상관관계 연구)

  • Purpose: The aim of the present study was to understand the relationship between gait symmetry and functional balance, walking performance in stroke patients and to makes recommendation regarding the most suitable measure for standardization of expression of spatiotemporal gait symmetry. Methods: 45 subjects with stroke (31 men, 14 women, $57.3{\pm}10.3$ years old) participated in this study. Gait symmetry was calculated by equations of symmetry ratio (SR) and symmetry criterion (SC) for stance time, swing time, single leg support time (SLST), step length, and stride length. Spatiotemporal parameters were measured respectively by walkway system ($GAITRite^{TM}$ system). Limit of stability (LOS) by using forceplate (Balance Performance Monitor) during voluntary weight displacement and Berg Balance Scale (BBS) were measured as functional balance and Timed Up and Go test (TUG) and Functional Ambulation Category (FAC) were assessed as functional walking. Results: SR in stance time and swing time was correlation with BBS, TUG and FAC (p<0.05). SR in SLST only with BBS (p<0.01), SR in step length only with FAC (p<0.05). SC in stance time was correlation with BBS and TUG (p<0.05). SC in swing time and SLST with BBS, TUG and FAC (p<0.01), SC in step length with TUG and FAC (p<0.01), SC in stride length with BBS and FAC (p<0.01). Conclusion: Gait symmetry in spatiotemporal gait parameters provides meaningful information about functional balance and walking performance in stroke subjects. Our analysis may support the recommendations of the symmetry criterion as equation for standardization of gait symmetry.

  • Rapid developments in wireless sensor networks have extended many applications, hence, many studies have developed wireless sensor network positioning systems for indoor environments. Among those systems, the Global Position System (GPS) is unsuitable for indoor environments due to Line-Of-Sight (LOS) limitations, while the wireless sensor network is more suitable, given its advantages of low cost, easy installation, and low energy consumption. Due to the complex settings of indoor environments and the high demands for precision, the implementation of an indoor positioning system is difficult to construct. This study adopts a low-cost positioning method that does not require additional hardware, and uses the received signal strength (RSS) values from the receiver node to estimate the distance between the test objects. Since many objects in indoor environments would attenuate the radio signals and cause errors in estimation distances, knowing the path loss exponent (PLE) in an environment is crucial. However, most studies preset a fixed PLE, and then substitute it into a radio propagation loss model to estimate the distance between the test points; such method would lead to serious errors. To address this problem, this study proposes a Path Loss Exponent Estimation Algorithm, which uses only four beacon nodes to construct a radio propagation loss model for an indoor environment, and is able to provide enhanced positioning precision, accurate positioning services, low cost, and high efficiency.

  • This research focuses on the issue of seismic retrofit prioritization based on the Caltrans' highway network serving Los Angeles and Orange counties. Retrofit prioritization is one of most important problems in earthquake engineering, and it is a problem that most decision makers face in the process of resource allocation. This study demonstrates the methods of prioritized resource allocation in the process of retrofitting a regional highway network. For the criteria of a retrofit ranking, seismic vulnerability and the importance of network link are first introduced. Subsequently, link-based seismic retrofit cases are simulated, investigating the effects of the seismic retrofit in terms of seismic performance, such as driver's delay. In this study, probabilistic scenario earthquakes are used to perform a probabilistic seismic risk analysis. The results show that the retrofit prioritization can be differently defined and ranked depending on the stakeholders. This study provides general guidelines for prioritization strategy for the effective retrofitting of a highway network system.

A 1.485 Gbps Wireless Video Signal Transmission System at 240 GHz (240 GHz, 1.485 Gbps 비디오신호 무선 전송 시스템)

  • In this paper, a 1.485 Gbps video signal transmission system using the carrier frequency of 240 GHz band was designed and simulated. The sub-harmonic mixer based on Schottky barrier diode was simulated in the transmitter and receiver. Both of heterodyne and direct detection receivers were simulated for each performance analysis. The ASK modulation was used in the transmitter and the envelop detection method was used in the receiver. The transmitter simulation results showed that the RF output power was -11.4 dBm($73{\mu}W$), when the IF input power was -3 dBm(0.5 mW) at the LO power of 7 dBm(5 mW) in sub-harmonic mixer, which corresponds to SSB(Single Side Band) conversion loss of 8.4 dB. This value is similar to the conversion loss of 8.0 dB(SSB) of VDI's commercial model WR3.4SHM(220~325 GHz) at 240 GHz. The combined transmitter and receiver simulation results showed that the recovered signal waveforms were in good agreement to the transmitted 1.485 Gbps NRZ signal.

Optimization Algorithm for Energy-Efficiency in the Multi-user Massive MIMO Downlink System with MRT Precoding (MRT 기법 사용 시 다중 사용자 다중 안테나 하향링크 시스템에서의 에너지 효율 향상을 위한 최적화 알고리즘)

  • Under the maximum transmit power constraint and the minimum rate constraint, we propose the optimal number of transmit antennas and transmit power which maximize energy-efficiency (EE) in multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink system with the maximal ratio transmission (MRT) precoding. Because the optimization problem for the instantaneous channel is difficult to solve, we use independence of individual channel, average channel gain and path loss to approximate the objective function. Since the approximated EE optimization problem is two-dimensional search problem, we find the optimal number of transmit antennas and transmit power using Lagrange multipliers and our proposed algorithm. Simulation results show that the number of transmit antennas and power obtained by proposed algorithm are almost identical to the value by the exhaustive search.

  • We propose an optimal number of transmit antennas which maximizes energy-efficiency (EE) in multi-user massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink system with the maximal ratio transmission (MRT) precoding. With full channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), we find a closed form solution by partial differential function with proper approximations using average channel gain, independence of individual channels, and average path loss. With limited feedback, we get a solution numerically by the bisection with approximations in the same manner, and analyze an effect of feedback bits on the optimal number of transmit antennas. Simulation results show that the optimal numbers of transmit antenna getting from proposed closed form solution and exhaustive search are nearly same.

A Research on the Characteristics of Children's OPAC Displays in Public Libraries (공공도서관 어린이용 OPAC 디스플레이의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of OPAC displays and search interfaces for children. The OPACS of Cheongju Miracle Library, Nowon Children's Library in Seoul. Los Angeles Public Library in the U.S.A. and HelMet Library System in Finland are examined on the basis of 'OPAC Display Guidelines(Draft)' published by IFLA and Nielsen's 'User Interface Design Heuristics'. Discussed are such topics as the features of basic and detailed search screens. the brief display of search results. the arrangement and full display of bibliographic records, and the displays for zero-results and large retrieval sets. The OPAC displays of Cheongju Miracle Library and Nowon Children' Library are not particularly designed to serve children which are their primary users. The OPAC displays for children of LAPL and HelMet Library System are rather simplified and customized to represent specifically the needs and information seeking behavior of children.

  • Establishing a public transportation transfer system that can reduce personal automobile use in the CBD and absorb the demand, thereby reducing congestion, is a necessity. However, the current transfer system and facilities are lacking in intermodal connectivity, require long transfer times, have complex flow patterns, and are lacking in information systems and convenience. The design analysis program of this study is to develop a program that executes computations of design analysis of transfer facilities by utilizing the existing design standards for facilities such as facilities for boarding and alighting, elements for convenience, and pedestrian facilities. Developing an analytical tool through which individual or integrated design analysis can be conducted on the design standards of various facilities is an important study for improving the work accuracy and efficiency of designing an actual transfer center.

  • As science and technology develops, it is expected that more precise and various weapons will be used in a much more complicate future battlefield environment. C4I is a system that provides the proper and necessary information to commanders and their staffs to recognize the battlefield situation by connecting and visualizing the complex battlefield environment and various weapon systems together. Commanders and staffs perform battle command training based on a computer or paper map to better utilize the C4I system and Command Post eXercise(CPX) is a process of the training. This is the way for them to improve command control and decision making skills. Analyzing of line of sight(LOS), identifying communication fringe area, deploying troop strength, and determining unit maneuver are highly restricted under the 2D based CPX. In recent years, however, three-dimensional (3D) CPX simulators have been developed to overcome these drawbacks. In response to this trend, this paper proposes a multi-user based CPX simulator using augmented reality (AR) glass, which can be used as a practical war game simulator.

A Study on the Introduction for Automated Vehicle-based Mobility Service Considering the Level Of Service of Road Infrastructure (도로 인프라 수준을 고려한 자율주행 기반 모빌리티 서비스 도입 방향 고찰)

  • There have been enormous efforts to develop an innovative public transport bus service for enhancing its operational efficiency based on Automated Vehicle(AV). However, since the vehicle operating environment in the public transport system varies with the purpose and method of mobility service, it is necessary to preferentially evaluate the current roadworthiness for an effective way to introduce the AV. Therefore, this study classified and redefined AV-based mobility service based on literature reviews. This research conducted the roadworthiness test for checking the feasibilities of the AV-based mobility services. Furthermore, we suggested some deployment strategies of the AV-based mobility service considering the Level-Of-Service (LOS) of road infrastructure based on the results of roadworthiness tests. The proposed direction would have a great potential to introduce the AV-based public transport system in the near future.
