A Proposal of LOS Guidance System of a Ship in Straight-line Navigation under Ocean Currents and Its Optimization Using Genetic Algorithm (해류중 직선 항행하는 선박의 LOS 가이던스 시스템의 제안과 유전 알고리즘을 이용한 최적화)

  • This paper suggests LOS(Line-Of-Sight) guidance system of a surface vessel in straight-line navigation under ocean currents An LOS vector from the vessel to a point on the path between two way-points is decided and a heading angle is calculated to converge to follow the desired path based on the LOS vector This guidance system is called LOS guidance system. The suggested LOS guidance law has parameters to be properly chosen according to navigational environment. Parameters of LOS guidance system are optimized to reduce propulsive energy and/or position error between desired Position and present position of a ship using genetic algorithm which is a strong optimization algorithm with adaptational random search The effectiveness of the suggested LOS guidance system is assured through computer simulations.

  • This paper proposes an LOS(line-of-sight) guidance system of a ship for path following. From the viewpoint of a control configuration, guidance is a special type of compensation algorithm that is placed in front of the controller to accomplish navigational objects. A guidance system generates a reference trajectory for trajectory tracking or path control and decides the desired velocity, position and heading angle. A control system executes commands based on a reliable guidance law during navigation. An LOS vector from the vessel to a point on the path between two way-points in straight-line navigation or a point among turning circle in turning navigation is selected, and then a heading angle is calculated to converge the desired path based on the LOS vector. The LOS guidance law is defined for the straight-line and the turning circle, respectively. The effectiveness of the suggested LOS guidance system is assured through computer simulation.

  • Missile and target closing velocity is used in the proportional navigation(PN) missile guidance loop. But it is difficult to estimate the closing velocity when passive seeker is used and only the Line-of-Sight(LOS) rate is available in the guidance loop. In this study, new closing velocity estimation method is developed. This method uses LOS rate measurement only and uses some characteristics of PN guidance law. The Lyapunov method is used to analyze the stability of the developed estimation method.

  • The guidance system which uses the line-of-sight(LOS) rate to guide the missile towards its target has been used to the conventional differential game, such as the pursuer-evader game. Proportional navigation guidance and its derivatives have been shown to be an effective LOS rate guidance system. In this paper, we have used the genetic algorithm to construct the guidance system for the pursuer-evader type differential game. Also we have proposed the prediction model to obtain the informations about the intention of future actions of the pursuer and the evader.

  • Until now, many guidance laws have been developed. They mainly used the classical tail-pursuit guidance method based on geometric angle information, the proportional navigation method based on the line of sight(LOS) rate, and the optimal guidance law based on optimal control theorem. In the augmented guidance law, target acceleration information and autopilot characteristics are added the guidance command. In this study, new guidance laws considering geometric angle are proposed. Two guidance laws are developed for the midcourse guidance law, and a guidance law is developed for the terminal guidance respectively.   • A practical recursive WLS (weighted least squares) algorithm is proposed to estimate relative range using LOS (line-of-sight) information for ASM (anti-ship missile) application. Apart from the previous approaches based on the EKF (extended Kalman filter), to ensure good convergence properties in long range engagement situations, the proposed scheme utilizes LOS rate measurements instead of conventionally used LOS angle measurements. The estimation error property for the proposed filter is investigated and a simple error compensator is devised to enhance its estimation error performances. Simulation results indicate that the proposed filter produces very accurate range estimates with extremely small computations.

  • A target adaptive guidance(TAG) algorithm is proposed employing the near-zone signal that can be measured from an infrared seeker. The guidance order is composed of a conventional PNG command and an additional command to be calculable from an additional LOS rate between a hot point of target and a required intercept point. The characteristic of the near-zone signal is similar to that of LOS rate that is inversely proportional to the square of time-to-go. Hence the proposed scheme can be applied to real systems with no estimator for time-to-go. From analysis results on the miss distance with perfect missile and perfect seeker, it follows that the proposed TAG algorithm guarantees missile to be ideally guided to the required intercept point. And it is less affected by the TAG start time and a proportional navigation ratio than other TAG schemes using a LOS rate such as a step bias or a ramp bias.

  • LOS analysis is used for optimal deployment of mid-range guided weapon system or system engagement effectiveness simulation. Comparing to real-world, LOS analysis includes error sources such as coarse terrain data resolution, refraction of radio waves, and several ideal assumptions. In this research, exact LOS algorithm under assumption of constant earth curvature and error analysis of that is investigated. It proved that LOS algorithm under assumption of constant earth curvature has negligible error in mid-range guidance weapon system's scope.

  • A practical range estimator based on the robust Kalman filter is proposed to solve the range estimation problem for surface to air missile(SAM) homing guidance. Apart from the previous works based on the extended Kalman filter(EKF) with bearing only measurement, the proposed scheme makes use of line-of-sight(LOS) rate to ensure the fast convergency at long-range. In this reason, the robust Kalman filter is considered to deal with LOS rate measurement error. The recursive linear structure of proposed filter is easy to implement and make it possible to reduce computational burdens. Moreover, it shows good estimation performance without specific guidance law such as oscillation proportional navigation guidance(OPNG).

  • This paper proposes a waypoint guidance algorithm for the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV). The proposed simplified guidance algorithm is presented, which is combined LOS guidance and cross-track guidance for path following. Cross-track error is calculated using the position of the AUV and reference path. LOS guidance and cross-track guidance are appropriately changed according to cross-track error. And the stability of the system has been improved using variable cross-track control gain by cross-track error. Also, in this paper, navigation hardware in-the loop simulation(HILS) is implemented to verify navigation algorithm of AUV that performs combined navigation using inertial navigation device and doppler velocity log(DVL). Finally, we design integrated system HILS (including navigation HILS) for performance verification of guidance algorithm of the autonomous underwater vehicle. By comparing the sea test result with HILS result, the proposed guidance algorithm and HILS configuration were confirmed be correct.
