한국(韓國)에 생육(生育)하고 있는 회양목과(科) 화분(花粉)의 형태학적(形態學的) 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Pollen Morphology of Buxaceae Growing in Korea)

  • 한국(韓國)에서 생육(生育)하고 있는 회양목과(科)의 3속(屬) 2종(種) 4변종(變種) 1품종(品種)의 화분형태(花粉形態)를 광학(光學) 현미경(顯微鏡)과 주사형전자(走査型電子) 현미경(顯微鏡)을 이용(利用)하여 관찰(觀察)하였던바 그 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1 화분형태(花粉形態)에 의(依)하여 속(屬) 수준(水準)의 화분(花粉) 검색표(檢索表)를 만들수 있었다. 2. 화분립(花粉粒)의 길이는 회양목속은 $21.9{\mu}m-28.3{\mu}m$, 수호초속은 $34.9{\mu}m-43.0{\mu}m$, Sarcococa는 $27.2{\mu}m-39.6{\mu}m$이었으며, Muri의 폭과 길이는 $0.3{\mu}m-4.6{\mu}m$, $0.9{\mu}m-4.3{\mu}m$, Lumen의 길이는 $0.4{\mu}m-2.4{\mu}m$이었다. 3. 표면(表面)무늬 형태(形態)는 회양목속(屬)은 망상(網狀), 수호초속(屬)과 Sarcococa는 사슬상(狀)이었다. 4. 발아구(發芽溝)는 3속(屬) 모두 다산공구형(多散孔溝型)이었다.

The Reliability of Thickness Measurement of the Deep Fiber of the Lumbar Multifidus Using Ultrasonography

  • The reliability of the thickness measurement of the lumbar multifidus (LMD using real-time ultrasonography (US) was determined in only the superficial fiber of the lumbar multifidus (SM). However, previous studies have not examined the reliability of the deep fiber of the LM (DM). The purpose of this study was to determine the intrarater and the interrater reliability of the thickness measurements of DM using US. Eleven heathy males participated in the study. The thickness of the DM was measured with an US in the prone position. Reliability was examined using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), standard error of the measurement (SEM), and the Bland and Altman plot. ICC(3,1) was used to calculate the interrater reliability of the thickness measurement of DM using the values from both the first and second test sessions. Additionally, ICC(3,1) was used to calculate the intrarater reliability of the measurements over two days using the measurements obtained in test session 1 and lest session 2. The results of this study were as follows: 1) the ICC(3,1) value for interrater reliability was .94 in the first test session, and .93 in the second test session. 2) the ICC(3,1) values for intrarater reliability of the measurements over two days was .90 in both the first examiner and the second examiner. The interrater reliability and interrater reliability of the DM measurements, obtained via the US protocol used in this research was excellent. Therefore, we conclude that the thickness measurement of the DM obtaioned from the US protocol used in this research would be useful for clinician assessment of the thickness of the DM.

Morphological Characteristics of Four Species in the Genus Skeletonema in Coastal Waters of South Korea

  • Most Skeletonema species have been identified under the name of S. costatum. To assess the morphological species diversity in the genus Skeletonema, we surveyed the nine localities in the coastal waters of South Korea. The light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations in this study showed that ultrastructural features of genus Skeletonema discriminated among four species: S. dohrnii Sarno & Kooistra, S. marinoi Sarno & Zingone, S. subsalsum (Cleve) Bethge, and S. tropicum Cleve. In S. dohrnii, cell diameters were 3-6 ${\mu}m$ and the pervalvar axes were 13-19 ${\mu}m$. One or two partial chloroplasts were visible in a cell. Cells of S. marinoi were 4-10 ${\mu}m$ and the pervalvar axes were 8-18 ${\mu}m$. Each cell contained one chloroplast. Cells of S. subsalsum which contained 1-2 chloroplasts were 8-13 ${\mu}m$ and the pervalvar axes were 11-20 ${\mu}m$. Cells of S. tropicum were 10-18 ${\mu}m$ and the pervalvar axes were 4-9 ${\mu}m$. 2-4 chloroplasts were seen in each cell. Tip width of fultoportula in S. dohrnii and S. marioni was flared and flat, but that in S. subsalsum and S. tropicum was narrow. Morphological groups among them, S. dohrnii and S. marinoi were the most widely distributed in all seasons, while S. tropicum was only occurred in a summer season.

한국(韓國) 연안(沿岸)의 부착성(附着成) 우상(羽狀) 규조류(硅藻類) Pseudohimantidium pacificum의 미세(微細) 구조(構造) (The fine Structure of the Marine Epizoic Pennate Diatom Pseudohimantidium pacificum in Korean coastal Waters)

  • 해양 부착상 규조류 pseudohimantidium pacificum에 관하여 주사전자현미경 및 광 학현미경을 통한 미세구조, 형태적 변이와 지리적 분포를 연구하였다. 세포의 정축과 횡축의 길이는 기왕의 보고와 유사하였으나 순상돌기의 수는 이보다 2~3개 더 많아 변이가 뚜렸하였다. 조선(striae)의 수도 기보고와 비슷하였고, 이의 모양은 현재까지 둥근형으로 보고되어 있으나 본 연구에서는 긴타원형이었다. 한편 본 규조류는 부유생 활을 할 뿐 아니라 동물부유생물 중 요각류 Corycaeus affinis의 흉각과 두부의 촉각 주변에 많이 부착하고 있었다. 본종이 한국의 남서해역에서 분포하고 있음을 확인하였 던 사실은 이 종이 북태평양의 황해에 37$^{\circ}$30'N까지 분포함을 말해준다.

치주조직재생유도술용 비흡수성 차폐막 (e-PTFE membrane)에의 세균부착 및 침투 (Bacterial Adhesion And Penetration To e-PTFE Membrane Used For The Guided Tissue Regeneration)

  • This study was performed to observe the bacterial adhesion and penetration to e-PTFE membrane following guided tissue regeneration(GTR) procedure and to evaluate the association of the membrane exposure and bacterial contamination with the clinical outcome. For the study, ten infrabony defects in 9 patient were treated by mucoperiosteal flap operation including placement of the e-PTFE membrane. The treated teeth were monitored weekly for the membrane exposure, gingival recession and gingival inflammation. The membranes were retrieved after 4 to 6 weeks, examined by SEM for bacterial contamination and adherent connective tisue elements, and observed under LM for the bacterial penetration into membrane. Three months postsurgery, the defect sites were clinically reexamined for the changes in attachment level and probing depth. Comparison of the ultrastuctural findings and clinical outcome revealed that extent of membrane exposure and bacterial contamination of the membrane was inversely associated with clinical attachment gain. From this finding, the extent of membrane exposure and the bacterial contamination on the apical portion of the e-PTFE membrane at the time of removal seemed to be a critical determinant on the clinical outcome of GTR and the membrane exposure needs to be controlled for optimal results.

Morphological characteristics of major airborne pollen in Korea peninsula

  • Although airborne pollen is invisible to the eye, it has been known as a major source to respiratory allergic reactions. For this reason, airborne pollen is monitoring in many countries to predict pollen concentration based on locality and season. However, the morphological characteristics of airborne pollen and their potential tendency as an allergen are still obscure. In the present study, we selected 52 airborne pollen samples based on previously reported data and investigated their detail pollen characteristics using LM and SEM. Major airborne pollen in Korea has sorted in 19 families (most angiosperms except four gymnosperm families), and all pollen grains are small to medium in size ($P=17.34-49.86{\mu}m$) apart from the bisaccate pollen grains of Pinaceae ($P=46.49-106.20{\mu}m$). The aperture number and shape vary from sulcate to polyporate. While the inaperture pollen has found only in gymnosperm (Cupressaceae and Taxaceae), triporate or polyporate is common pollen type in angiosperm. The sexine ornamentations could divide into several types, but the most sculpturing types are inconspicuous like psilate, rugulate and granulate. Reticulate pollen grains as a semitectum have occurred the species of genera Platanus and Fraxinus only. To estimate the possible relationships between pollen features and allergen, the results are discussed in botanical context.

테트라싸이클린 처리된 흡수성 및 비흡수성 조직유도재생술용 막에의 세균부착과 침투양상 (Bacterial attachment and penetration to Tetracycline-treated resorbable and nonresorbable membranes for GTR)

  • The barrier membranes for GTR procedure could be affected bY bacterial contamination after exposure to oral environment. This study was done to evaluate whether the tetracycline impregnated barrier membranes could inhibit bacterial attachment and penetration into membranes. The resorbable membrane(polylactic and polyglycolide copolymer, $Resolute^{(R)}$, W.L Gore and Associates, Inc..USA) and the non-resorbable membrane(e-PTFE; Gore-TexTM, W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc.,USA) were cut into 4mm discs and trated with 5% tridodecylmethylammonium chloride solution in ethanol and dried in air. The membranes were immersed in tetracycline(TC) solution (100mg/ml, pH 8.0) and dried. To the maxillary canine-premolar region in six periodontally healthy volunteers, removable acrylic devices were inserted, on which 8 cylindrical chambers were glued with TC impregnated and non-impregnated discs, the membrane discs were examined for bacterial attachment and penetration, and structural changes under SEM and LM. From the 1st day to the 7th day, membranes showed bacterial plaque formation composed of cocci and rods. Thereafter, filamentous bacteria appeared and the plaque thickness increased. The TC impregnated e-PTFE membranes showed less bacterial attachment and delayed in bacterial plaque maturation than non-treated membranes. As for bacterial penetration, the TC impregnated e-PTFE membranes showed superficial invasion and infrequent presence of bacteria in unexposed inner surface at the 4th week. while the non-treated e-PTFE membranes showed deep bacterial invasion at the 2nd week and frequent presence of internal bacteria at the 4th week. The resorbable membranes started to be resorbed at the 2nd week and were perforated at the 4th week, regardless of TC treatment. In conclusion, bacterial plaque formation and penetration was efficiently delayed in TC impregnated e-PTFE membranes, whereas resorbable membranes were similar in bacterial invasion due to membrane degradation and perforation, regardless of TC treatment.

한국산 백운풀속(꼭두서니과)의 화분학적 연구 (A Palynological Study of the Korean Oldenlandia L. (Rubiaceae))

  • 한국산 백운풀속 5분류군의 화분을 광학현미경과 주사전자현미경으로 관찰하였다. 본 속의 화분은 모두 단립이며, 극축의 길이는 $20.7-36.0 {\mu}m$, 적도면의 너비는 $21.0-38.4{\mu}m$으로 세립 또는 중립이다. 화분의 형태는 P/E가 0.93-1.00로서 약단구형 내지 구형이다. 발아구의 수는 3-7개, 발아구의 형태는 공구형이며, 구구의 길이는 $14.2-20.4{\mu}m$, 너비는 $2.6-3.4{\mu}m$이다. 외표벽의 두께는 $0.9-2.4{\mu}m$이며, 표면무늬는 모두 망상으로 미립돌기가 있거나 없었다. 본 속의 화분형질 중 화분의 크기, 발아구의 수, 표면무늬에 미립돌기의 유무는 속내 종간 식별형질로서 매우 유용한 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 화분형질에 의해 설정된 Neanotis속은 형질의 연속적인 변이에 의해 속의 실체에 대하여 재검토되어야 할 것으로 판단되었다.

오존노출 후 백서 기도점막의 형태학적 변화 (Morphologic Changes of Airway Mucosa after Ozone Exposure in Rats)

  • Objectives : This study was designed to compare the morphological changes in the nasal, tracheal and main bronchial mucosa in rats exposed to 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 ppm ozone for 7 days, 6 hours per day. Materials and Methods : We observed the nasal, tracheal and main bronchial mucosa in rats exposed to 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 ppm ozone for 7days, 6hours per day with LM, SEM and TEM. Results : In light microscopy, influx of inflammatory cells, epithelial hyperplasia, loss of cilia and increased goblet cells were observed in all rats except those exposed to 0.3 ppm. these findings increased with the increase of ozone concentration, but there were no significant differences among the nasal, tracheal and main bronchial mucosa in rats exposed to the same ozone concentration. In scanning electron microscopy, a loss of cilia was observed in rats exposed to 0.3 ppm in some sections and 0.6 ppm and 1.2 ppm in all sections. In transmission electron microscopy, vacuolization of epithelial cells was observed in rats exposed to 0.3 ppm in some sections and 0.6 ppm in all sections. These results suggest that electron microscopic observation is necessary to study morphology of airway mucosa in rats exposed to ozone below 0.3 ppm. And also the morphological changes in nasal septal epithelium may reflect those of tracheal and bronchial epithelium after high concentration ozone-exposure.

화분(花粉)에 의한 한국산(韓國產) 참나무과(科) 계통분류(系統分類) (A Systematic Classification of Korean Fagaceae by the Pollen)

  • 화분(花粉)의 특징(特徵)으로서 우리나라에서 자라고 있는 참나무과(科)의 분류군(分類群)을 식별(識別)하고자 하였다. 5속(屬) 19종류(種類)의 화분(花粉)에 대(對)하여 광학현미경(光學顯微鏡)과 주사형전자현미경(走査型電子顯微鏡) 관찰(觀察)로서 얻은 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 본과(本科)의 화분(花粉)은 4개(個)의 주형(主型)과 4개(個)의 부형(副型)(Quercus)으로 분류(分類)되었다. 1) 너도 밤나무형(型) 2) 밤나무형(型) 3) 돌참나무, 잣밤나무형(型) 4) 참나무형(型) (1) 가시나무부형(副型) (2) 갈참나무부형(副型) (3) 떡갈나무부형(副型) (4) 상수리나무부형(副型) 2. 화분(花粉)의 과립상문(顆粒狀紋)의 형태(形態)는 참나무속(屬)의 각두인편(殼斗鱗片)의 형태분화(形態分化)와 관계(關係)가 깊은 것으로 나타났다. 1) 화분표면(花粉表面)의 균일(均一)한 분기과립상문(分岐顆粒狀紋)은 각두인편(殼斗鱗片)이 동심원상(同心圓狀)으로 배열(配列)하는 형질(形質)과 상응(相應)되었다. 2) 화분표면(花粉表面)에 대소과립(大小顆粒), 단과립(單顆粒)과 괴상과립(塊狀顆粒)등이 혼재(混在)하고 괴상과립상(塊狀顆粒狀)의 소철점(小凸占)이 구형(球型)인 형질(形質)은 단인편상각두(短鱗片狀殼斗) 형질(形質)에 상응(相應)하였다. 3) 화분표면(花粉表面)에 대소과립(大小顆粒), 단과립(單顆粒)과 괴상과립(塊狀顆粒)등이 혼재(混在)하고 괴상과립(塊狀顆粒)의 선단(先端)이 Amoeba형(型)을 이루는 형질(形質)은 떡갈나무와 같이 각두인편(殼斗鱗片)이 박질세장(薄質細長)한 형질(形質)과 상응(相應)하였다. 4) 화분표면(花粉表面)에 대소과립(大小顆粒)이 혼재(混在)하나 단과립문(單顆粒紋)만 있는 형질(形質)은 상수리나무의 각두(殼斗)와 같이 후질세장(厚質細長)한 각두인편(殼斗鱗片)의 형질(形質)과 상응(相應)하였다. 3. 화분표면(花粉表面)의 무늬형태(形態), 표면미공(表面微孔)의 유무(有無), 화분잎(花粉粒)의 크기 및 과립(顆粒)의 형태(形態)를 수량화(數量化)하여 Cluster분석(分析)을 한 결과(結果)는 기(旣) 식물계통(植物系統) 분류체계(分類體系)와 잘 부합(符合)되었고 종이하수준(種以下水準)에서도 유연관계(有緣關係)를 잘 나타내 주었다.
