To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain valley from Cheonwangbong to Seonneotang, 23 plots($400m^2$) set up with random sampling method were surveyed. Two groups of Abies koreana community, Fraxinus mandshurica-Acer pseudo-sieboldianum community were classified by cluster analysis. Abies koreana was a major woody plant species in the valley area from Cheonwangbong to Mapogpo, and Pinus koraiensis, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum and Sorbus amurensis was partly occupied. High positive correlations was proved between Picea jezoensis and Sorb us amurensis, Taxus cuspidata, Fraxinus sieboldiana, Kalopanax pictus; Betula costata and Betula platyphylla var. japonica, Corn us controversa; Abies koreana and Pinus koraiensis; Stephanandra incisa and Betula ermani, Acer tegmentosum, Prunus sargentii; Acer pseudo-sieboldianum and Betula ermani; Fraxinus mandshurica and Deutzia prunifolia, Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes; Sorbus amurensis and Kalopanax pictus; Betula platyphylla var.japonica and Cornus controversa; Lindera erythrocarpa and Lespedeza maximowiczii, Quercus serrata, Styrax obassia; Lindera obtusi/oba and Abies holophylla; Carpinus laxiflora and Lespedeza maximowiczii; Fraxinus sieboldiana and Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes, Pinus koraiensis, Taxus cuspidata; Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes and Taxus cuspidata; Quercus mongolia and Rhododendron schlippenbachii; Quercus serrata and Styrax obassia, and relatively high negative correlations was proved between Abies koreana and Deutzia prunifolia; Lindera obtusi/oba and Pinus koraiensis. Species diversity(H') of investigated groups was ranged $2.7478{\sim}2.9573$.
The result of forest vegetation classification could be quite different and dependant on analysis methods. The purpose of this study was to compare the analyzed results for three kinds of methods (physiognomy dominant species, floristic composition and interspecific association) related to vegetation classification. Vegetation data were collected by the 80 quadrates in Mt. Oseo, Chungcheongnam-do from September to October in 2016. We carried out community type classification using above three methods. As a result, the vegetation according to physiognomy dominant species was classified into ten communities such as Pinus densiflora community, Quercus mongolica community, Zelkova serrata community, Quercus acutissima community, Cornus controversa community, Quercus serrata community, Larix kaempferi community, Pinus rigida community, Castanea crenata community and Liriodendron tulipifera community. The vegetation according to floristic composition was classified into 4 vegetation units. It was totally represented by Lindera erythrocarpa community group. And L. erythrocarpa community group was classified into the Rhododendron mucronulatum community (subdivided R. mucronulatum typical group and Styrax obassia group) and Zelkova serrata community (subdivided Larix kaempferi group and Pseudostellaria palibiniana group). As a result of interspecific association, forest vegetation was divided into two groups. And it was considered that the vegetation type by floristic composition and interspecific association significant could be affected by topography. There were lots of vegetation groups or units in the order like 10 types of communities by the physiognomy dominant species, 8 species group and 4 vegetation types by the floristic composition, and 2 types by the interspecific association. In conclusion, vegetation classification methods elicited diverse vegetation groups or units with lots of correlations of environmental factors.
The present study focused on the vegetation structure and dynamics of Betula davurica forest were to provide the information for management, distribution and utilization of B. davurica forest in Mt. Chiri national park, southern Korea. The layer structure of B. davurica forest were consist of tree layer(18 species), middle layer(29 species), shrub layer(43 species) and herb layer(68 species). According to the importance value of stratification of layers, In tree layer, B. davurica dominant the highest value of 123.97%, Alnus hirsuta 49.04., Castanea crenata 25.58%, Quercus serrata 25.02%, Stewartia koreana 14.49%, in middle layer were B. davurica 70.81%, Q. serrata 37.74%, Fraxinus rhynchophylla 25.35% Lindera erythrocarpa 24.52%, S. koreana 18.86%, shrub layer were Sasa borealis 28.28%, L. erythrocarpa 24.94%, Rhus trichocarpa, 20.42%, Stephanandra incisa 19.90% and herb layer Schizandra chinensis 18.51%, Aster scaber 12.26%. Disporum smilacinum 10.63% etc, respectively. Results of chi-square test statistics based on presence-absence parameters, the positively associated species pair were Quercus variablis - Q. acutissima, Stewartia koreana - Symplocos paniculata, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum - Quercus mongolica. And covariation was calculated based on quantitative measure of density. The results showed that the association and covariation values among species not agreed with each other. The frequency distribution of DBH Betula davurica species showed reverse J-shaped, therefore it's seems to retrain as a dominant species. When predicting succession in Betula davurica forest, it is seedling and saplings were not richness, succession was governed by competition of hardwood species of subtree and tree layer.

To propose basic information for natural resource management and conservation strategy of Schisan-dra nigra Maxim., its habitat environment and vegetation structure of forest communities growing the species was investigated. Fourteen plots (each plot size 400 $m^2$) were set up at the distributed area of Cheju island, southern part of Korea. S. nigra is the economic useful species that scatteringly grows at 850~920 m in the western part, at 660~710 m in the northern part and at 750~1,250 m in the southern part of Mt. Halla. The community of S. nigra in Mt. Halla is the mixed secondary forest of pine and broad leaved trees that are mainly composed of Pinus densif1ora, Quercus serrata, Styrax japonica, Lin-dera erythrocarpa and Carpinus laxiflora. The density in a main distribution sector of S. nigra appears in the range of 3~39 individuals per each 20$\times$20 m plot. The distribution patterns by Morisita's Index showed that S. nigra was distributed randomly in all of the stands. The association analysis showed that the following tree species were positively associated with S. nigra. In other words, the following trees were appeared to require the same ecological niche together with S. nigra: Lindera erythrocarpa, Cornus waltri, Acer mono, and Styrax japonica.
To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain ridge from Bammeorijae to Woongseokbong, 25 plots($400m^2$) selected by random sampling method were surveyed. Three groups of Quercus mongolica - Pinus densiflora community, Q. dentata community and Q. mongolica - Q. dentata community were classified by cluster analysis. Q. dentata, Q. variabilis, Pinus densiflora, Acer pseudosieboldianum and Q. mongolica were found as mostly dominant woody plant species in the Woongseok-bong area. In the future, the importance percentage of Pinus densiflora might be eventually decreased, but those of Q. mongolica, Q. variabilis and Q. dendata might be gradually increased. There were strong positive correlations between Pinus densiflora, Zanthoxylum piperium and Lindera obtusiloba; Q. mongolica and Rhododendron mucronulatum; Styrax obassia and R. schlippenbachii; Fraxinus sieboldiana, Zanthoxylum piperium and Styrax obassia; Acer pseudosieboldianum and Fraxinus sieboldiana; Cornus controversa and Corylopsis coreana were relatively weak negative correlations between Q. dentata and Q. mongolica; Lindera erythrocarpa, Q. mongolica and Q. variabilis; Q. mongolica, Larix leptolepis and Q. variabilis; Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa and Rhododendron mucronulatum. Species diversity index(H') of investigated groups was ranged from 0.09832 to 1.1102.
In order to determine ecological niches of forests in Mt. UnJang, the studies were analyzed on the methods of TWINSPAN and DCCA ordination. The results are summarized as follows : Six communities determined by TWINSPAN : Fraxinus mandshurica, Cornus controversa, Acer mono, Carpinus tschonoskii, Carpinus tschonoskii - Quercus variabilis, and Quercus mongolica community. In the relations of major community and environmental factors, Fraxinus mandshurica, Cornus controversa, and Acer mono community were distributed valley or evenness in the rich of organic matter. Elevation was high comparatively. Carpinus tschonoskii and Carpinus tschonoskii - Quercus variabilis community were distributed in the low elevation, in rich of MgO and $CaCO_3$. Quercus mongolica community were distributed in the high elevation, in low of MgO, $CaCO_3$. The factors in influencing community distribution were elevation. The importance value in all the quadrats sampled, Quercus mongolica recorded the highest and the next values then came those Cornus controversa, Acer mono, Fraxinus mandshurica, Quercus variabilis, Carpinus tschonoskii, Acer pseudosieboldianum Lindera erythrocarpa, Styrax obassia and Lindera obtusiloba in the orders.
The floristic characteristics and ecological conservation measures for the plant resources of the Tokyusan National Park. Chollapuk-do, Korea were discussed. The field works was done for three times in nine major areas from April to July, 1993. The total number of vascular plants in this area were summarized as 97 families, 297 genera, 469 species and 541 kinds. The nineteen kinds of artificially planted, twelve kinds of Korean endemics and sixteen kinds of Korean rare and endangered species in the area were revised and compiled in the list. The flora of the area were categorized into the Southern part of the Korean Region, where the species such as Quercus serrata. Fraxinus sieboldiana, Ilex macropoda, Lindera erythrocarpa, Lindera glauca, Rubus coreanus, Taxus cuspidata, Cephalotaxus koreana and Abies koreana were roled as major floristic components in the Korean Region and endemized in the southern part of Korea. The natural communities such as Adonis amurensis Community, Taxus cuspidata Community, Betula ermanii Community, Hemerocalis spp. Community, Rhododendron tschnoskii Community, Rhododendron schlippenbachii Community, Disporum ovale Community, Tricyrtis dilatata Community, and present natural distribution of Abies koreana, and swamp vegetation in Tumunsan areas, as well as upland grassland at the summit of Hyangchokpong were represented for their floristic values in the area. The fifteen kinds of medicinal plants such as Gastrodia elata, seven kinds of ornamental plants such as Adonis amurensis, and thirteen kinds of edible plants such as Ligularia fischeri are faced potentially in endangered from the outrageous collections by the local peoples. The Action Plan for the conservation management of the area which enables sustainable use by the local peoples must be established in the near future.
Methyl linderone (ML), a cyclo-pentenedione, was isolated from the fruit of Lindera erythrocarpa Makino (family Lauraceae). This plant has well-known anti-inflammatory effects; however, the anti-cancer effects of ML have not yet been reported. Thus, in the present study we investigated the effects of ML on the metastasis of human breast cancer cells. We used 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-stimulated MCF-7 cells as the cell model to study the effects of ML on invasion and migration. ML was found to reduce the invasion and migration rate of TPA-stimulated MCF-7 cells. Moreover, it inhibited two metastasis-related factors, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and interleukin-8 (IL-8), at the mRNA and protein expression levels, in TPA-treated MCF-7 cells. The mechanism by which ML exerted these effects was through the inhibition of translocation of activator protein-1 (AP-1) and signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT3), mediated via phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK). Taken together, our findings indicated that ML attenuated the TPA-stimulated invasion and migration of MCF-7 cells by suppressing the phosphorylation of ERK and its downstream factors, AP-1 and STAT3. Therefore, ML is a potential agent for the treatment of breast cancer metastasis.
The experimental forest of Cbungnam National University is located in Naryung-Ri, Eunsan-Myen, Buyeo-Gun, Chungcheongnamdo. The climax vegetations of Quercus species grown in centrual temperate zone are supposed to be destroyed before pure pine stands as a semi-climax vegetation are established on the southern aspect and along the ridges. Variability of vegetations is rather high and dominant species are such as Pinus densiflora, Quercus acutissima, Quercus variabilis, Quercus aliena, Quercus serrata, Lindera erythrocarpa, Platycarya strobilacea, and so on. There tare 203 woody plants and 128 herbal plants. According to the use of vegetations they can be classified as follows; 60 familia and 154 species for edible source, 63 familia and 143 species for medicinal, 51 familia and 140 species for forage, 32 familia and 78 species for ornamental, and 12 familia and 27 species for timber source.
