A Study on the CCFL Backlight Inverter for 37' LCD TV (37인치 LCD TV를 위한 CCFL 백라이트 인버터에 관한 연구)

  • LCD 디스플레이의 대형화에 따라 백라이트용 냉음극 방전램프(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)는 길어지고 있으며, 하나의 램프를 이용한 백라이트는 휘도의 한계가 있어 대형 디스플레이에서는 램프를 병렬로 사용하여 필요한 휘도를 만들고 있다. 본 논문에서는 냉음극 방전램프 16개를 사용하는 37인치 LCD TV용 대형 백라이트 구동을 위한 인버터를 각각의 램프들이 입력조건에 대해 동일한 출력을 갖도록 설계하였다. 기존의 냉음극 방전램프의 구동방식인 하이-로우(H-L) 방식에서의 문제점을 보완하여 하이-하이(H-H) 방식을 채택하므로서 램프간의 휘도편차를 개선하였고 향후에 상용화가 가능함을 보였다.

Measurements of Magnetostriction of Metallic Glass Ribbons by Fiber-Optic Interferometry

  • Magnetostrictions of metallic glass ribbons were measured by fiber-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometry. The saturation magnetostrictions measured here are accurate to within 10%. For accurate measurements the fibers in the ribbons were uncoated, the ribbons were flattened before bonding, and two passes of fiber in the sensing arm were bonded to a single layer metallic glass ribbon at the ends only. Various factors affecting the accuracy of the measurements were also discussed.

  • For an accurate analysis of three dimensional linear magnetostatic problems, a new boundary integral equation formulation is presented. This formulation adopts difference magnetic field concept and uses single layer magnetic surface charge as unknown. The proposed method is capable of eliminating numerical cancellation errors inside ferromagnetic materials. In additions, computing time and storage memory are reduced by 75% in comparison with the reduced and total scalar potential formulation. Two examples are given to show its efficiency and accuracy.

  • Simultaneous measurement technique for temperature and velocity fields near a heated solid body has been constructed. The measurement system consists of a 3-late CCD color camera, a color image grabber, a 1ighting system, a host computer and a software for the whole quantification process. Thermo Chromic Liquid Crystals (TCLC) was used as temperature sensors. A neural network was used to get a calibration curve between the temperature and the color change of the TCLC in order to enhance the dynamic range of temperature measurement. The velocity field measurement was attained by the use of the fray-level images taken for the flow field, and by introducing the cross-correlation technique. The temperature and the velocity fields of the forced and the natural convective flows neat the surface of a cartridge heater were measured simultaneously with the constructed measurement system.

  • In order to select a new material for a heat exchanger, the frosting behavior of a thermally conductive plastic based on PBT was compared to the frosting behavior of aluminum and three types of plastics based on PTFE. The frosting behavior on the 1 mm thick PBT specimen was similar to that of the aluminum specimen but not that of the pure PTFE specimen. The properties of the frost formed on the specimens were affected by both the thermal conductivity and surface characteristics of the materials. The heat and mass transfer rates of the thermally conductive plastic were almost equivalent to those of the aluminum specimen.

  • 원거리 플라즈마 화학증착법을 이용하여 저온에서 이산화규소박막을 제조하였다. 본 연구 에서는 공정변수인 기판의 온도, 반응기체의 조성 및 분압과 플라즈마 전력에 따른 산화막의 재료적인 물성을 평가하였다. XPS결과에서 산화막은 양론비(O/Si=2)보다 약간 적어 실리콘이 많이 함유된 막으로 나타났다. 이 경우 굴절율과 ESR분석에 의해 미결합된 실리콘의 양이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. SIMS분석에 의해 미량의 질소성분이 계면에 존재하는 것과 실리콘 미결함을 관찰하였다. FT-IR로부터 막내 수소량을 정량화하였으며 결합각 분포는 200℃이상에서 열산화막과 비슷한 값을 얻었다. 하지만 열산화막에 비해 높은 식각율을 보여 계면 스트레스에 의해 막내의 결합력이 약해진 것으로 생각된다.

  • A circuit model for a field emission triode has been proposed. The model parameters have been extracted from he fabricated silicon tip array and verified by comparing with the results simulated by circuit simulator(SPICE). The cut-off frequency can be calculated from the parametric capacitance and the transconductance values extracted from measurements. For the field emission triode, the capacitance of 3.45fF/tip and the transconductance of 0.94nS/tip have been measured under the emission current of 4.1nA/tip. From these values, the cut-off frequency is predicted to be 43 kHz but th measured one came out to be 6 kHz. because o the parasitic capacitance components.

  • 효율적인 LCD Backlight 구동 시스템 설계를 위해서는 CCFL에 대한 전기적 특성 파악이 중요하지만 디스플레이의 대형화에 따라 LCD Backlight 램프는 길어지고 비선형 특성으로 인해 특성 표현이 곤란하여 회로 설계시 간략화된 등가 모델을 사용하게 되어 실제 인버터 제작과정에서 많은 시행착오를 거치게 한다. 회로 설계시 수식모델 적용을 위한 CCFL의 모델이 필요하며, 이러한 모델은 인버터를 효율적으로 설계할 수 있게 하므로서 설계에 필요한 시간과 자원 절감을 가능하게 한다. 본 논문에서는 42인치 LCD 구동인버터 설계에 필요한 CCFL의 수식 모델링을 IsSpice를 이용하여 구현하였으며, 회로 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통하여 모델의 타당성을 검증하였다.

Probabilistic Assessment of Total Transfer Capability Using SQP and Weather Effects

  • This paper presents a probabilistic method to evaluate the total transfer capability (TTC) by considering the sequential quadratic programming and the uncertainty of weather conditions. After the initial TTC is calculated by sequential quadratic programming (SQP), the transient stability is checked by time simulation. Also because power systems are exposed to a variety of weather conditions the outage probability is increased due to the weather condition. The probabilistic approach is necessary to evaluate the TTC, and the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is used to accomplish the probabilistic calculation of TTC by considering the various weather conditions.

The P/PI Mode Switching Method of Gopinath Flux Observer for Sensorless Vector Control of Induction Motors (유도전동기 센서리스 벡터제어를 위한 고피나스 자속관측기의 P/PI 모드 전환)

  • This paper presents a sensorless vector control algorithm of closed loop Gopinath flux observer to enhance the robustness at low speed by switching P/PI mode. Closed loop Gopinath flux observer has the problem in sensorless vector control of induction motor at low speed. This paper solves the problem using the characteristic function of closed loop Gopinath flux observer. P mode shows better performance than PI mode under the cut-off frequency of observer. But P mode always has a flux error due to DC offset, so this paper combines P mode and PI mode. This algorithm shows good performance over wide speed range. The performance has been confirmed through computer simulations using MATLAB SIMULINK and experiments.
