2-촉매 시스템에서의 촉매 용량 결정에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Determination of Capacity of Catalysts in 2 -Catalyst System)

  • There are various method for the LEV(Low Emission Vehicle) regulation, but 2-catalyst system using one catalyst near exhaust manifold and another catalyst underfloor, is the most popular. This system uses the proven catalyst technology and doesn't use energy. But it is difficult to determine capacity of the two catalysts. So an optimization method to determine the capacity has been proposed by other researcher. It uses the fact that emission decreases with capacity increasing, but the decreasing ratio slows down in high capacity range. It means that the emission and capacity of catalyst is exponentially decreasing relation. In this paper this method will be verified with various experiments. And this method was proven to be very useful to determine the capacity of two catalysts system.

A Study on the Reduction of Cold Start Hydrocarbon from Gasoline Engines Using Hydrocarbon Adsorbers

  • Experiments were carried out to investigate the characteristics of the hydrocarbon (HC) emissions and to reduce cold start hydrocarbons in gasoline engines. An HC adsorber was, used and it coated was by Pd/Rh catalyst with zeolite on a honeycomb monolith. The HCs were efficiently trapped at temperatures below $100^{\circ}C by physical adsorption. After adsorption, they were reduced gradually by the catalytic oxidation of Pd/Rh catalysts as the adsorber temperature increased above $100^{\circ}C. Increasing amounts of methane, ethylene and n-butane were emitted as the fuel-air mixture became richer and the engine speed decreased. As the temperature of adsorber increased, high-number carbons into low-number carbons. Thus, the C4 concentration decreased significantly during the first 30 seconds, and the C2 concentration increased continuously.

HC저감용 최적 연료분사 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fuel Injection System for Optimizing Reduction of HC Emission)

  • Growing international concern about environmental issues in recent years has led to new proposals for strengthening exhaust emission standards and fuel economy requirements throughout the world. The low emission vehicle(LEV) standards drawn up by the California Air Resources Board(CARB) in the U.S.A are noticeably stringent To cope with this regulation, a reduction of HC emission is the most important challenge for the automotive industry because HC emission levels are severer than any other components emission levels. In this paper, the apparatus for visulalizing the wall film flow in a intake manifold and the spark plug with optical fiber for detecting the signal from diffusion flame are developed to mal,e the HC formation mechanism clear. High speed camera system is also used to elucidate the correlation wall film flow and the diffusion flame. Using these methods, the effect of fuel injection systems such as injection direction, spray angle, atomised injection on HC emission levels is investigated. Consequently, the optimal fuel injection conditions for minimizing the wall film flow and reducing the HC emission are found through this research.

  • It is well known that the majority of the emissions measured from vehicle exhaust in the US Federal Test Procedure(FTP-75) are emitted during the first 60 seconds. This paper describes an experimental study on SI engine emissions reduction after cold start with interval secondary air injection and coolant control. Secondary air injection after cold start to reduce exhaust emissions causes an exothermic reaction at the exhaust port and gives sufficient air to the catalyst. For that reason engine-out emissions oxidized in the exhaust port and the rapid heating of a catalytic converter after cold start with CSAI and ISAI are estimated. The influence of the coolant temperature on SI engine emissions has been estimated. In the present studycoolant control of the cylinder head tempeature is used to investigate the effect of coolant temperature on SI engine emissions. The results show that engine-out hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions are considerably reduced with interval secondary air injection and coolant control.
