Postural stability test of double leg support and single limb stance (양발로 선 자세와 한발로 선 자세의 자세안정도 검사)

  • The purpose of this study was to quantitatively observe changes in postural stability of double leg support and single limb stance. Thirty-six healthy subjects participated in the study. Postural stability were examined using Dynamic Balance System. Each trial was 25 sec in duration. Each of 6 conditions{double leg support and single limb stance ; eyes open in stable platform, eyes closed in stable platform, eyes open in dynamic platform) evaluated effect of visual, vestibular, proprioceptive system. Center of balance found for displacement to the left along the X axis in double leg support and to the forward on left toe in single limb stance. Sway index was the lowest in double leg support with eyes open in stable platform and the higher in single limb stance with eyes closed in stance platform. We believe that reliable and valid measures should be used to determine the contributing factors of our client's postural problems so that we can design the most effective treatment possible.

Analysis of Ground Reaction Force by Stance Type during Tennis Forehand Stroke (테니스 포핸드 스트로크 스탠스 유형의 지면반력 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetics variables of GRF by dtance type during forehand stroke. Eight high school tennis players, who have never been injured for last six months, in Busan were chosen for the study. They performed horizontal swing and vertical swing that it was done each five consecutive trial in the condition of square, semi-open and open stance. It was filmed by 6 video camera and used with 3-dimensional motion analyzer system and GRF system. The following kinetic variables were analyzed in relation to left leg and right leg GRF. The conclusion were as follow: 1. In square and semi-open stances, the horizontal ground reaction force was decreased at impact in left leg regardless of swing type, whereas open stance was increased at impact to the tiptoe in both legs. 2. In square and semi-open stances, the vertical ground reaction force was increased at impact in left leg regardless of swing types, whereas open stance was decreased at impact to vertical direction in both legs.

Evaluation for Symmetry Ability of One Leg Standing Pose before and after Yoga Training (요가수련전후 한발서기자세의 좌우대칭력 평가)

  • The purpose of this work is to biomechanically study the effect of the one leg standing pose in yoga.. The work have been done through the evaluation for the left and right symmetry ability of one leg standing pose in the before and after yoga training for the 14 female yoga subject group (height: $164.3{\pm}4.4cm$, mass: $53.4{\pm}6.4kg$, year: $20.0{\pm}0.49yrs$) participated in this experiment. The motions of one leg standing pose were captured with Vicon system and the parameters were calculated with Visual-3D and Ground reaction force system. The results were as followed; - Front and backward COPsd did not show the significant difference, compared the before training with the after. - Left and right COPsd showed the significant difference (p<0.05), compared the before training with the after. - COP distance showed the significant difference (p<0.01), compared the before training with the after. - The asymmetry index of front and backward COPsd did not show the significant difference, compared the before training with the after. - The asymmetry index of left and right COPsd did not show the significant difference, compared the before training with the after. - The asymmetry index of COP distance showed the significant difference (p<0.01), compared the before training with the after. Therefore, the yoga training demonstrated the stable improvement in the one leg standing pose of inferior feet and the positive effect to the left and right symmetry ability.

First record of Lucicutia gaussae (Calanoida, Lucicutiidae) from Korean waters

  • Two species (Lucicutia clausi, L. flavicornis) of Lucicutia (Lucicutiidae Sars, 1902) have been reported in Korean waters and one species(L. gaussae) is newly added the Tsushima Warm Current realm. Specimens from Korean waters are morphologically consistent with previous morphological characteristics of L. gaussae, but these differ in the following characteristics: 1) the male antennule with one process on segments XIX-XX, one process on segment XVIII, and three processes on segments XXI-XXIII; 2) in male leg 5, basis of left leg in the Korean specimen with small spine processes on the protrusion; 3) in male leg 5, the third exopodal segment of left leg without an inner marginal spine. In this study, we provide a redescription of L. gaussae insufficiently described by previous authors.

Comparative Analysis of the Right Shoulder's Muscle Activity When Lifting Ipsilateral and Contralateral Legs during the Push Up Plus Exercise (푸쉬업 플러스 동작 시 동측과 반대측 다리 들기에 따른 우측 어깨근 활성도 비교 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the right shoulder's muscle activity when lifting ipsilateral and contralateral legs during the Push Up Plus (PUP) exercise, which is a typical shoulder stabilizing exercise, and to provide effective data for a shoulder stabilization exercise. Upper trapezius, lower trapezius, levator scapula, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, deltoid posterior, serratus anterior and pectoralis major, which are eight main muscles of a shoulder, were analyzed for the left and right leg lifting by using an electromyogram (EMG). The study revealed that the muscle activities of the right shoulder's upper trapezius, levator scapula, supraspinatus, serratus anterior and pectoralis major were higher when lifting an ipsilateral (right side) leg, compared to lifting a contralateral (left side) leg. Therefore, lifting an ipsilateral leg can be an effective method for enhancing the maneuverability (mobility) of the right shoulder when lifting a single leg.

Comparison of Dynamic Muscle Activation during Fente Execution in Fencing Between Wearing Weighted and Waterbag Vests

  • Objective: This study aimed to compare the activity of the trunk and leg muscles while performing fente (in fencing) wearing weighted and waterbag vests. Method: The electromyography test was used to measure and analyze the activation of the trunk and leg muscles. Eight active fencers from B University (age: 19.5 ± 0.66 years, height: 179.75 ± 5.93 cm, weight: 72 ± 6.32 kg) were selected for this study. Results: According to the EMG analysis results of the 4 muscles measured in this study, left-right differences were observed for rectus abdominis and external oblique abdominis, but left-right differences between the groups were not significant. The gluteus medius muscle was not significantly different from the adductor muscle, but there were significant differences between the groups. Conclusion: The electromyographic analysis of the four muscles measured in this study revealed no significant difference between the left and right recti abdominis and external obliques depending on the vests. However, significant differences were observed between the left and right gluteus medius and adductor longus. Our results can be interpreted as the effects of the inherent movements involved in the fente. Furthermore, our results indicate that the weight transfer while wearing a waterbag vest, which provides an unstable environment, increased the activity of leg muscles.

Analysis on Current Limiting and Magnetizing Characteristics Due to Winding Locations of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Using E-I Core (E-I철심을 이용한 변압기형 초전도한류기의 권선 위치에 따른 전류제한 및 자화특성 분석)

  • This paper compared current limiting characteristics of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using E-I core due to the location of windings. Since E-I core has three legs and two magnetic paths, the current limiting characteristics of SFCL were expected to be affected by the installation location of windings, either center leg or right/left leg. To analyze its characteristics, the electrical equivalent circuit of the SFCL were derived and the electromagnetic analysis for the SFCL with the designed structure were performed. From the short-circuit tests, the hysteresis curve and the voltage-current trajectory of the SFCL due to the installation location of windings were extracted and compared each other. The SFCL with windings in the center leg of E-I core was shown to be larger magnetizing inductance compared to the one with windings in the right or left leg of E-I, which was analyzed from the hysteresis curve. In addition, larger decreased fault current right after the fault occurrence in the SFCL with windings in the center leg of E-I core was confirmed than the SFCL with windings in the right or left leg of E-I.

A Study on Correlations between Muscle Circumference Ratio, Water Distribution and BMI Obese and Normality (비민인과 정상인의 근육둘레비율 및 수분분포와 BMI의 상관성 연구)

  • Objectives : This study aims to confirm the importance of behavior habit and exercise, especially leg exercise in obese. Methods : Out of 2247 people, we divided 1125 people in normal group(BMI<25) and 122 people in obese group($BMI{\geq}25$). We measured each arm, leg, abdomen muscle circumference and right and left water difference using BLA. We Investigated whether ratio of leg muscle circumference to arm and abdomen has differences by statistics between each groups. And analyzed correlation with BMI. We also investigated right and left water distribution difference of two group's limbs and the correlation with BMI. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS program. Results : 1. In obese group, ratio of leg muscle circumference to arm and abdomen is significantly lower than normal group(P<0.001). 2. Ratio of leg muscle circumference to arm and abdomen were negatively correlated with BMI(r-0.461, r=0.462, P<0.001). And partial correlation coefficient controlled for age and sex is -0.528, -0.632(P<0.001). 3. In the case of women, there was right and left water distribution difference as statistical in leg. In the case of Obese, the difference is serious. Conclusions : These results suggest that exercise and activity of lower limbs is more needed in the field of obesity treatment and prevention.

A Study on Application of TPCLT(Twice Per Cycle Left-Turn) for a Signalized Three-Leg Intersection (3지 교차로의 TPCLT(Twice Per Cycle Left-Turn) 적용 방안 연구)

  • TPCLT is a advanced signal system that serves twice left turn phases during the same cycle. TPCLT can be a useful where the left turn traffic volume is high and the length of the left turn lane is short. This study examined the effectiveness of TPCLT in reducing delay for a signalized three-Leg intersection and proposed the application of TPCLT signal system. 108 scenarios with different traffic volumes were created. This study analyzed the control delay of the three-Leg intersection in case TPCLT is operated and non-TPCLT is operated. As a result of analysis, it was shown that TPCLT was effective in most of the scenarios. When traffic volume ratio of the left turn is 30~40%, TPCLT was more effective at reducing the control delay. The study result shows significant delay reduction for the left turning traffic and it is approximately 50 seconds. The opposing movement's average control delay increased 2 seconds. The effect of TPCLT on the length of left turn lane was analyzed. As a result, it is found that TPCLT is effective when the length of left turn lane is 30%~60% compared to that of conventional three leg intersection operations.

Weight-bearing on Paretic in Patients with Acute Stroke (급성 뇌졸중환자의 마비측 체중지지 임상양상)

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in balancing ability and weight bearing between paretic and non-paretic. Methods: Subjects of the study were consisted of 30 acute hemiplegia patients(paretic 15, non-paretic 15) who were receiving rehabilitation therapy in hospital. Weight shifting was quantitatively evaluated to determine the ability of patients to and during conscious weight shifting on the Gaitview. Independent t-test was utilized to detect the mean difference between the groups. Results: 15 patients with stroke were able to shift more weight onto the paretic leg. And pressure ratio of right hemiplegia was significantly difference on the nonparetic leg, pressure ratio of left hemiplegia was significantly difference onto the paretic leg. Conclusions: Patients with left hemiplegia who was cortical lesions in the right hemisphere were able to shift more body weight onto their paretic leg. These patients should be encouraged to practice shifting their weight towards their non-paretic leg to improve their balance.
