Separation of LED packages from PCBs and analysis of the adhesive components was conducted to enhance the recycling potential of LED modules. LED package was separated from PCBs using heat treatment under optimal conditions: temperature of above 250 ℃ and time of 20 minutes. The separation equipment can be established using a hot air injector with controlling the rotational speed of the internal screw. The separation efficiency of each type of substrate (aluminum and glass fiber) was investigated with the thickness range of the adhesive materials (0.25-0.30 and 0.30-0.35 mm). Under the optimal conditions, the efficiency can reach to 97.5% for both types of substrates with adhesive materials of thickness 0.25~0.30mm. Characterization of the residual adhesive substances from the separated LED package and PCB using microwave digestion and ICP analysis showed that the residue contained of 95% of Sn, less than 5% of Cu and Ag.
To produce a high quality crop, light is an essential environmental factor in greenhouse cultivation. In the winter season, solar radiation is weak than other season. Therefore, using supplemental light during a low radiation period can increase the crop growth and yield. This study was conducted to select the economical supplemental light source for greenhouse cultivation in pepper during the low radiation period. The green pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Super Cheongyang') was transplanted on 5 September 2019. Supplemental lighting treatment was conducted from 1 January 2020 to 31 March 2020. RB LED (red and blue LED, red:blue = 7:3), W LED (white LED, R:G:B = 5:3:2), and HPS (high-pressure sodium lamp) were used as the supplemental light source. Non-treatment was used as the control. The plant height, SPAD, and number of nodes of pepper plants have no significant differences by supplemental light sources. However, the number of ramifications plants was the greatest in RB LED light source. Moreover, supplemental lighting increased photosynthesis of the pepper plant, and especially, the RB LED had the highest photosynthesis rate during supplemental lighting period. Also, the yield of pepper increased in the supplemental lighting treatment than in the control, and the RB LED had the greatest yield than other light sources. The electricity consumption was the highest in W LED and the lowest in HPS light. Through the economic analysis, the RB LED had high economic efficiency. In conclusion, these results suggest that using RB LED for supplemental light source during low radiation in pepper greenhouse increase the yield and economic feasibility.

The bactericidal effects of 642, 521, and 461 nm LED were investigated on Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Staphylococcus aureus strains in TSB with pH 7.2, 4.0, and 3.5 for 10 h at $15^{\circ}C$. The bactericidal effect of 461 nm blue LED was the most pronounced compared to 642 nm and 521 nm LEDs at pH 3.5. When E. coli was exposed to pH 3.5 with 461 nm LED, populations of E. coli O157:H7 ATCC 43894 and 35150 decreased by 4 and 5 log CFU/mL for 2 h, respectively. Populations of E. coli ATCC 8739 decreased by 5 log CFU/mL for 2 h. Further, S. aureus ATCC 27664, 43300, and 19095 were inactivated by 4, 5 and 5 log CFU/mL for 2 h, respectively, at pH 3.5 with 461 nm LED. In conclusion, combined treatment with 461 nm LED and acidic conditions at low-temperature ($15^{\circ}C$) showed the greatest antimicrobial effects. This study suggests that LEDs may be potentially used as a method to maintain the safety of the food preservation technology.

$TiO_2$-nanoparticle-dispersed silicone was applied to a LED package and the light efficiency of the LED package was evaluated in this study. The addition of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles in silicone increased refractive index, which improved the light efficiency of the LED package. The $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were fabricated by hydrothermal synthesis and were dispsersed by a vinyl silane coating treatment. After the silane treatment, the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles dispersed with diameters of 10~40 nm but rod-shape $TiO_2$ nanoparticles with lengths of 100 nm were also observed. The refractive index increased with the $TiO_2$ concentration in silicone, while the transmittance decreased with the $TiO_2$ concentration. The light efficient of the LED package with $TiO_2$+silicone encapsulant was higher than that of the LED package with no $TiO_2$ in silicone encapsulant.
A total of 144 ((Duroc${\times}$Yorkshire)${\times}$Landrace)) pigs with an average initial BW of $28.85{\pm}0.63$ kg were used in this 6-wk growth trial. Pigs were randomly allotted to 1 of 4 treatments in a completely random block design. Each dietary treatment consisted of 9 replicate pens, with 4 pigs per replicate. Dietary treatments included: i) NC (basal diet), ii) PC (NC+apramycin 0.5 g/kg), iii) BPT1 (NC+bacteriophage 0.25 g/kg) and iv) BPT2 (NC+bacteriophage 0.5 g/kg). The inclusion of antibiotics and bacteriophages did not affect the (p>0.05) ADG, ADFI and G:F compared with the basal diet. Dietary antibiotics and bacteriophages supplementation led to a higher (p<0.05) DM digestibility than the NC treatment. Pigs fed the bacteriophage supplemented diet increased (p<0.05) the N digestibility compared with those fed NC treatment. Supplementation of antibiotics led to a higher (p<0.05) energy digestibility than the NC treatment. No difference (p>0.05) was observed in the RBC, WBC, lymphocyte concentration and fecal moisture among treatments. Pigs fed PC and BPT2 treatments reduced (p<0.05) the E. coli concentration compared with those fed NC treatment. The inclusion of BPT2 treatment led to a higher (p<0.05) lactobacillus concentration compared with NC and PC treatment. Dietary antibiotic and bacteriophage supplementation reduced (p<0.05) the Salmonella concentration compared with NC treatment. In conclusion, our study suggested that bacteriophage at the level of 0.5 g/kg could be used as an antibiotics alternative for growing pigs.
The aim of this study was to analyze the light traits in a solar light-collector device and its effects on lettuce growth at an early growth stage. The three hyper parameters used were the reflector diameter (2 cm and 4 cm), coating inside the reflector (chrome-coated, non-coated) and distance from the light fiber (15 cm and 20 cm). The results showed that light efficiency, which is the ratio of light intensity inside the fiber to the solar intensity, improved by 41.1 % when using a 2 cm diameter chrome-coated reflector at a distance of 15 cm from the light fiber; whereas it only improved by 20.6% when a non-coated reflector was used. As the reflector size was increased to 4 cm, the light efficiency for the coated and non-coated reflectors increased by 28.5 % and 26.4 %, respectively, hence, no significant difference was observed. When the light fiber was placed at a distance of 20 cm, the increase in light efficiency with coating treatment was 8 % higher than without coating treatment. We also compared the efficiency of light-fiber treatment with that of LED treatment in our lettuce nursery, and observed that the plants exhibited better growth with light-fiber treatment. We observed an average increase of 1.7 cm in leaf height, $7cm^2/plant$ increase in leaf area, and 32 mm increase in root length upon light-fiber treatment as opposed to those observed with LED treatment. These findings indicate that the collector light-fiber is economically feasible and it improves lettuce growth compared with the LED treatment.

This study evaluated the effects of stocking density on performance and behavioral activities of 35-day-old broilers in relation to incandescent white bulb (IB) light and LED yellow and white light. A total of 1,650 day-old chicks were weighed and randomly allocated into six treatment groups in a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement based on stocking density (14 birds m-2 and 22 birds m-2) and color of lights (IB; monochromatic LED yellow and white light) with five replicates for each treatment. The results showed that final body weight, weight gain and feed conversion of broilers were improved at a stocking density of 14 birds m-2 with exposure to LED lights. Similarly, broilers spent more time exhibiting inactive behavior (e.g. standing) and active behaviors (e.g. walking and walking plus pecking) under 14 birds m-2 with exposure to lights as compared that of other treatment groups. Regarding a stocking density of 22 birds m-2, broilers performance traits were negatively affected and also activities were less. The performance of broilers was not significantly altered for the main factor of different lights but broilers were less inactive (e.g less time spent sitting plus standing) and more time spent active behavior in walking under IB light than LED light. Thus, we concluded that a stocking density 14 birds m-2 with exposure to LED light significantly improved broiler performance and behavioral activity and these conditions could therefore improve the overall welfare of farmed chickens.

To improve the efficiency and stability of colloidal quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs), it is essential to achieve charge balance within the QD emissive layer. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is widely used for constructing an electron transport layer in the state-of-the-art QD-LEDs, but spontaneous electron injection from ZnO often results in excessive electrons in QDs that significantly deteriorate the performance of QD-LEDs. In this study, we demonstrated the improved performance of QD-LEDs by modifying the electron injection property of ZnO with self-assembled monolayer (SAM)-treatment. As a result of improved charge balance, the external quantum efficiency and maximum luminance of QD-LEDs with SAM-treatment were improved by 25% and 200%, respectively, compared to the devices without SAM-treatment.
Photobiomodulation (PBM) using organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) surface light sources have recently been claimed to be the next generation of PBM light sources. However, the differences between light emitting diodes (LEDs) and OLED mechanisms in vitro and in vivo have not been well studied. In vivo mouse models were used to investigate the effects of OLED irradiation on cellular function and cutaneous wound healing compared to LED irradiation. Mice in the LED- and OLED-irradiated groups were subjected to irradiation with 6 J/㎠ LED and OLED (630 nm), respectively, for 14 days after wounding, and some mice were sacrificed for the experiments on days 3, 7, 10, and 14. To evaluate wound healing, we performed hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining and quantified collagen density by computerized image analysis. The results showed that the size of the wound, collagen density, neo-epidermis thickness, number of new blood vessels, and number of fibroblasts and neutrophils was significantly influenced by LED and OLED irradiation. The tissue levels of interleukin (IL)-β, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were investigated by immunohistochemical staining. LED and OLED irradiation resulted in a significant increase in the tissue IL-β and IL-6 levels at the early stage of wound healing (P < 0.01), and a decrease in the tissue TNF-α level at all stages of wound healing (P < 0.05), compared to the no-treatment group. The expression levels of the genes encoding vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-beta 1 were significantly increased in LED and OLED-irradiated wound tissue at the early stage of wound healing (P < 0.01) compared to the no-treatment group. Thus, OLED as well as LED irradiation accelerated wound healing by modulating the synthesis of anti-inflammatory cytokines and the expression levels of genes encoding growth factors, promoting collagen regeneration and reducing scarring. In conclusion, this suggests the possibility of OLED as a new light source to overcome the limitations of existing PBMs.
The objective of this study was to characterize the bactericidal effect of 461nm visible-light LED on three common foodborne bacteria: Escherichia coli O157:H7, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Tests were conducted against pathogen strains that were treated with 461nm LED for 10 h at $15^{\circ}C$. The E. coli (ATCC 43894, ATCC 8739 and ATCC 35150) and the S. aureus (ATCC 27664, ATCC 19095 and ATCC 43300) had average reductions of 2.5, 6.6, 1.5, 2.5 and 2.0 log CFU/mL, respectively, after they were exposed for 10 h to 461nm LED light (p<0.05). In contrast, V. parahaemolyticus (ATCC 43969) had 6 log CFU/mL reductions after it was exposed for 4 h to 461nm LED light. The results showed that both the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were inactivated with 461nm LED light exposure. Also, the Gram-negative bacteria were more sensitive to the LED treatment than the Gram-positive bacteria. These results show the potential use of 461nm LED as a food preservation and application technology.
