  • Based on mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA), a novel technique to fabricate carbon nanowire (CNW) arrays is presented for a possible use of porous carbon electrode in electrochemical energy storage applications. PDA can give more porosity and nitrogen-doping effect to carbon electrodes, since it has high graphitic carbon yield characteristic and rich amine functionalities. Using such outstanding properties, the applicability of PDA for electrochemical energy storage devices was investigated. To achieve this, the decoration of the CNW arrays on carbon fiber surface was performed to increase the surface area for storage of electrical charge and the chemical active sites. Here, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowire (NW) arrays were hydrothermally grown on the carbon fiber surface and then, PDA was coated on ZnO NWs. Finally, high temperature annealing was performed to carbonize PDA coating layers. For higher energy density, manganese oxide ($MnO_x$) nanoparticles (NPs), were deposited on the carbonized PDA NW arrays. The enlarged surface area induced by carbon nanowire arrays led to a 4.7-fold enhancement in areal capacitance compared to that of bare carbon fibers. The capacitance of nanowire-decorated electrodes reached up to $105.7mF/cm^2$, which is 59 times higher than that of pristine carbon fibers.

  • For lithium secondary microbattery anode, the tin oxide thin films with Si addition (0, 2, 6, 10, 20 ㏖%) were prepared with R.F. magnetron sputtering at substrate temperature of 30$0^{\circ}C$ and Ar:O$_2$=7:3 atmosphere. As Si addition amount increased, Si-O bonding density increased and Sn-O bonding density decreased. The addition of optimum Si amount led the decrease of Sn oxidation state so that the irreversible capacity reduced and cycle characteristic enhanced during charge-discharge test. SnO$_2$films with 6 ㏖% Si had the highest reversible capacity of 700 mAh/g after 100 cycles.

  • This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of magnetizer for convergence purity magnet by the finite element method. The analysis utilizes combined method of the time-stepped finite element analysis and the Preisach model with hysteresis phenomena. In the finite element analysis, the non-linearity and the eddy current of the magnetizing fixure and permanent-magnet are taken account. The magnetization distribution in the permanent magnet is determined by using Preisach model which are composed of Everett function table and the first order transition curves is obtained by the Vibrating Sample Magnetometer. The calculated flux density values on the surface of the permanent magnet are led to the approximated gauss density values measured by the gauss meter. As a result, winding current, copper loss, eddy current loss of the magnetizing yoke, flux plot, surface gauss plot, temperature rise of the coil and resistor variation, vector diagram of magnetization distribution are shown.

  • Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a major staple foods and is in increasing demand in the world. The elevated temperature caused by changes in climate and environmental conditions is a major factor affecting wheat development and grain quality. The optimal temperature range for winter wheat is between 15 and 25℃, and it is necessary to study the physiological characteristic of wheat according to elevated temperatures. This study presents the effect of elevated temperature on the yield and quality of two Korean bread wheat (Baekkang and Jokyoung) in temperature gradient tunnels (TGT). Two bread wheat cultivars were grown in TGT at four different temperature conditions: T0 (control, near ambient temperature), T1 (T0+1℃), T2 (T0+2℃), (T0+2℃), T3 (T0+3℃). The period from sowing to heading stage accelerated and the number of grains per spike and grain yield reduced under T3 condition compared with those under T0 condition. Grain filling rate and grain maturity also accelerated with elevated temperature (T3). The increase in temperature led to the increase in protein contents, whereas decreased the total starch contents. These results are consistent with the decreased expression of starch synthesis genes and increased gliadin synthesis or gluten metabolism genes during the late grain filling stage. Taken together, our results suggest that the increase in temperature (T3) led to the decrease in grain yield by regulating the number of grains/spike, whereas increased the protein content by regulating the expression of starch and gliadin-related genes or gluten metabolism process genes expression. In addition, our results provide a useful physiological information on the response of wheat to heat stress.

  • Performance evaluation of a direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) was conducted according to coals and a graphite particle. Several fuel properties such as thermal reactivity, textural structure, gas adsorption characteristic, and functional groups on the surface of fuels were investigated and their effects on electrochemistry were discussed. The strong carbon structure inside of fuels led the rapid potential decreasing in high current density region, because it caused small surface area and low pore volume. The functional groups on the surface were related to the low current density region. The maximum current density and power density of fuels were affected by the total carbon content in fuels. The effect of operating conditions such as stirring rate and operating temperature was investigated in this study.

  • The profile of a fixed site at station M ($34.77^{\circ}N,\;129.13^{\circ}E$) in the Korea Strait was studied from March 2006 to February 2007. The aim was to understand the relationship between the annual thermal stratification pattern and seasonal variation in phytoplankton community structure. Physicochemical factors including temperature, salinity and nutrient concentrations, which strongly influence the proliferation and diversity of phytoplankton, were measured. The study period was divided into three due to the characteristic of thermohaline structures; mixed I (March-May 2006), stratified (June-November 2006) and mixed II(December 2006-Feburuary 2007). Diatoms dominated during the mixed I (89%) and II (48%) periods, while nanoplankton group occupied over 83% of total population during the stratified period. The dominant species during the mixed I and II was Chaetoceros socialis (47% and 29%, respectively), while during the stratified period Gyrodinium sp.(4%) was the most dominant. Averaged total chl a concentrations during the mixed I and II periods were 0.61 mg $m^{-3}$ and 0.72 mg $m^{-3}$, respectively, which were at least two-fold higher than that during the stratified period (0.30 mg $m^{-3}$). The vertical mixing and convection process of the water column induced nutrient supply from the bottom layer to the euphotic zone. It also led to the dominance of diatoms during the mixed periods, whereas small phytoplankton prevailed over large phytoplankton as stratification blocked the upward movement of nutrients to subsurface during the stratified period. During the mixed I and II periods, microplanktonic chl a dominated concentrations (50% and 48%, respectively), while picoplanktonic chl a occupied over 37% of total chl a during the stratified period.

  • This study was investigated the thermal properties of underfill with various epoxy resins using thermal analysis methods such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermo gravimetry analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermo-mechanical analysis (TMA). And, the adhesion strength of the underfills/FR-4 substrate was evaluated. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of underfill which was composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin was lower than that of underfill which was not composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin. The thermal degradation of underfill was composed of two processes, which involved chemical reactions between the degrading polymer and oxygen from the air atmosphere. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of underfill which was composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin was higher than that of underfill which was not composed the cycolaliphatic epoxy resin. The excessive curing temperatures caused a weak boundary layer of epoxy resin, which resulted in a deterioration of mechanical properties in the epoxy resin and thus led to poor adhesion property between the underfill/FR-4 substrate.

  • Container vessels continue to grow in size, led by global shipowner. Large ships can be loaded more cargo at a time, reducing the cost of transportation per teu. this eventually leads to economies of sale, in which the production cost per unit decreases with increasing output. in accordance with the 70th Convention of the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization, as of January 1, 2020, MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 14.1.3 will be effective. All vessels must be meet these criteria to reduce Sox emissions and reduce NOx emissions by reducing the content of manned sulfur oxides from 3.5% to less than 0.5%, otherwise IACS Member States Entry to the port is denied. in order to do that need to LNG storage tank. in this study characteristic of the material after line heating (600℃,700℃,800℃,900℃) of 9% Ni steel used in the manufacture of LNG fuel tank of ship were verified using by mechanical test. In the heating method by line heating. The initial properties of steel are changed by variables such as temperature, time, speed. The experimental data of line heating presented in this paper confirmed that the initial change of 9% Ni steel could be minimized.

  • This work has been measured and analyzed the device degradation of NBTI (Negative Bias Temperature Instability) stress induced the increase of gate-induced-drain-leakage(GIDL) current for p-MOS transistors of gate channel length 0.13 [${\mu}m$]. From the relation between the variation of threshold voltage and subthreshold slop by NBTI stress, it has been found that the dominant mechanism for device degradation is the interface state generation. From the GIDL measurement results, we confined that the EHP generation in interface state due to NBTI stress led to the increase of GIDL current. As a results, one should take care of the increased GIDL current after NBTI stress in the ultra-thin gate oxide device. Also, the simultaneous consideration of reliability characteristics and dc device performance is highly necessary in the stress parameters of nanoscale CMOS communication circuit design.
