A Study on the Design Process of Night-Scape Lighting Application of LED (LED를 적용한 야간경관조명 설계 프로세스에 관한 연구)

  • Night-Scape Lighting with the use of LED lighting has become very popular recently by the merits of energy saving, environmental friendlyness, sensitivity and conversion trends. LED lighting designs are being used diversly as outer elements for screen media stage production as well as buildings with fusioning of information technology. However, methods for analyzing the cases effectively are far from completion. This research evaluates the recent trends of Night-Scape Lighting with LED and processes it through database and aims to propose LED Night-Scape Design process for the various architectural night-scape lighting designs.

A Study on Developing a Teardrop LED Lighting Fixture and Economic Analysis at Industrial Clean Rooms (산업용 클린룸에서의 Teardrop LED 등기구 개발 및 경제성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • On the electricity consumption in Korea, the lighting sector takes about 17% of annual total electricity consumptions. In the midst of higher interests on energy conservation measures, design and choice of energy-saving lighting fixtures have been more important. With growth of technology-intensive industries like advanced material, semiconductor, and biotechnology from the 1980s, needs for clean room and thus illumination at clean rooms have been increased. In this paper, development, specification, and features of a Teardrop LED(hereinafter TD LED) lighting fixture as replacement of Teardrop florescent lighting one that has been popularly installed at clean rooms were presented. Also we performed the economic analysis of return on investment(ROI) about energy savings by the installation of the TD LED lighting fixture at a new-built clean room. The economic analysis showed that the new-developed TD LED lighting fixture would be able to withdraw the initial installation cost within 4 years. Lastly, improvement directions and development plans of the next TD LED lighting fixture for wider applications at clean rooms were described.

Effects of LED Lamps for Replacement of Metal Halide Lamp in Roadway Lighting Environment (LED램프와 메탈램프가 도로조명환경에 미치는 특성 비교평가)

  • The problems of light pollution first became an issue in the 1970s when astronomers identified the degradation of the night sky due to the increase in lighting associated with development and growth. As more impacts to the environment by lighting have been identified, many attempts have been made for reducing light pollutions. To prevent light pollution and increase energy efficiency, Seoul Metropolitan Government(SMG) replaced metal halide road lighting to LED luminaire in four arterial highway in Seoul. The present study compared the lighting characteristics of metal halide and LED luminaire in terms of Korea Standard for road lighting(KS A 3701) and BUG rating from Illuminating Engineering Society of North America(IESNA). The results showed that LED luminaire increased road surface luminance up to 2 times in average compared to the metal halide environment. Also, LED luminaire reduced the glare value by 2 times and luminous flux over 50% than the metal halide luminaire. In comparison with the BUG ratings, LED luminaire rated 1 degree lower for the backlight ratings and 3-4 degrees lower for the uplight ratings. The measured values testified that the LED luminaire is effective for roadway lighting and light pollution reduction.

  • In this paper, efficient functions for audio spectrum mapping with visible spectrum are proposed. Through mapping overall hearing frequency band with visible frequency band, emotional lighting might be possible. We propose a basic linear mapping function and non-linear mapping functions emphasizing specific audio frequency bands. For the algorithm implementation, spectrum analysis method and filter method are introduced. Especially, in this paper, a prototype LED lighting equipment using the digital filter method is implemented. The proposed lighting method can be applied to many LED lighting area using music.

  • LED lighting has received worldwide attention as advantages, such as environment-friendly than the conventional light, the excellent energy efficiency, and a semi-permanent lifetime. The use of the SMPS increased with the rapid growth in the LED industry. Increased use of SMPS means an increase in the harmonic generation load. Therefore, LED lighting compared with conventional fluorescent lamps were tested in this paper for characterized by a light source, electrical and harmonic characteristics. Experiments results for LED lighting showed different characteristics from the existing fluorescent lamp. Especially harmonic characteristic results showed different characteristics in accordance with the power device manufacturing method for LED lighting.

  • In this paper, We has been studied the lifetime degradation of LED lighting system compared to MH lighting. Especially the effect of temperature level on the lifetime degradation has been investigated. The results show that temperature plays a role in the lifetime degradation and slope of degradation line represent as temperature level differently. However, It is possible to estimate the lifetime of LED lighting system using equation induced the slope of degradation line.

  • The color temperature flexibility-typed Lighting Emitting Diode(LED) lighting control system proposed in this thesis employs Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) technique to control the brightness of LED lighting. The LED lighting used as a light source has 20W downlight composed of two types of LED chips: one is Warm White and the other is Cool white. One multi-sensor module consisting an infrared sensor, an illumination sensor, and a temperature sensor was made, to which Bluetooth wireless communication technique was applied to enable a smartphone application to control lighting brightness and identify the information collected from the sensor. CS-1000, a spectroradiometer, was used to measure LED dimming control and the changing values of a color temperature in eight steps. According to a test, it was found that it was possible to change a color temperature from 3187K of Warm White LED to 5600K of Cool White LED.

  • The experimental study of the white LED lighting focused on the readability in interior space according to age group is conducted realizing importance of the lighting environment and necessity of lighting study depending on the user situation. The results of study represent that a teenager does not show sensitive reaction to change of the color temperature and illuminance. The people in 20s and 30s prefer neutral white LED lighting and are very sensitive to change of the light environment. The people in 50s and 60s prefer high illumination and cool white LED lighting series. People of all ages highly appraise 6000K of 700 lux and 4000K in the illuminance range of 700 lux to 1000 lux for readability. The white LED lighting of color temperature 4000K is estimated as a suitable environment for readability in a wide range of illumination.

  • Unlike traditional lightings, LED lighting is one of objects that sends user an emotional segments through brightness control from various color temperature and dimming control. Also, within present interior lighting environment, emotional researches about traditional fluorescent lamp and newly implemented LED lighting environment are in active progress. Despite the fact adjectives describing emotions and scale modeling have been repeatedly used in many cases for a long time, there seems to be a lack of results in reliability, and there is a limitation for applying into actual lighting design. The purpose of this study is to construct an actual sized test-bed, which is used to draw out one's emotional words of behavior patterns from inner emotional experiences about lighting environment in an office space. Also, having fluorescent lamp and LED lighting as the main test subjects, we have tested emotional parts according to the changes of color temperature and adjective vocabularies chosen from user's action, and we have compared and analyzed the drawn out data.
