  • In this research, an overlapped illumination model was newly proposed for designing a freeform LED lens with a uniform illuminance distribution on its illuminating plane. Based on the proposed model and conventional illumination models, freeform lenses were designed and their performances and tolerances were compared. As a result of the tolerance analysis about thickness change in lens, position, size change, central direction change of light emission and characteristic change in LED source. This proposed model and divergent illumination model are similar to the performance about central direction change of light emission in LED source. but the uniformity illumination value in this proposed model is more remarkably value than it in divergent illumination model about characteristic change in LED source.

  • In this research, the overlapped illumination model was used for designing a freeform LED lens with a uniform illuminance distribution on its illuminating plane, and their performances and tolerances were compared. And, the illuminations on a illumination plane was measures for change with average illuminance and illuminance uniformity. As a result of the tolerance analysis about z-axis direction change, thickness change in lens and tilt change of light emission and characteristic change in LED source, overlapped model and divergent illumination model are similar to the performance about Z-axis direction change of light emission in LED source. but the uniformity illumination value in this overlapped model is more remarkably value than it in divergent illumination model about thickness change in LED lens. Also, even though the lens based on a divergent illumination model showed good performance compare to the lens based on an overlapped illumination model, the latter was less the deviation to variation of LED beam radiation ability.

  • A resistor network model for the horizontal AlInGaN LED was investigated, The parameters of the proposed model are extracted from the test dies and $350{\mu}m$ LED, The center of the P-area is the optimal position of a P-electrode by the simulation using the model. Also the optimal chip size of the LED for the new target current was investigated, Comparing the simulation and fabrication result, the errors for the forward voltage and the light power are average 0,02 V, 8 % respectively, So the proposed resistor network model with the linear forward voltage approximation and the exponential light power model are useful in the simulation for the horizontal AlInGaN LED.

  • In this paper, the illumination performances of three freeform lenses optimally designed for a point source were investigated for several LEDs with different source sizes, and also the tolerance characteristics of the lenses were analyzed. For comparison, two lenses with different sizes were designed with a divergent illumination model, and the last one was done with an overlapped illumination model. As the LED source size increased, the illuminance uniformity decreased more strongly, and the influence of a source misalignment on illumination performance became insignificant. However, the variation of LED radiation characteristics had strong effect on the illumination performance, irrespective of LED source size. Even though the lens based on a divergent illumination model showed superior performance compared to the lens based on an overlapped illumination model, the latter was less sensitive to the variation of LED radiation characteristics.

  • This paper introduces a simulation model regarding the process analysis of a LED assembly process. The objective of the simulation model is to evaluate the performance of various design aspects of process alternatives. To develop the simulation model, a time study is performed for each process. Next, by using ARENA, a simulation model is conducted based on the process analysis and the line balancing methodology. We found out several problems for the assembly process, and then suggest several alternatives to improve the system.

  • There are several technological problems have to be resolved for LEDs to be used as a general purpose light source. In addition, there are several differences between existing luminaires and the general planer LED luminaire for the intensity distribution. Therefore, the optical engineer then faces the challenging a problem of designing for a spatially extended and non-uniform light source. In the previous studies on the optical design of luminaires, a lot of studies on reflectors and light source have been conducted but the ones on prisms and lenses are insufficient at present. This study developed the numerical model of planar prism LED luminaire to control luminous intensity distribution of LED luminaires. And this study presents an optical calculation process for the prism optical design of a planar prism LED luminaire and a comparison of the simulation results between the developed numerical model and Photopia 2.0 to verify the accuracy of the numerical model. In addition, this study showed a method for the control of various luminous intensity distribution from the developed numerical model.

  • We investigated a resistor network model for the horizontal AlInGaN LED. Adding the proposed current density dependent relative quantum efficiency, the power simulation can be also obtained. Comparing the simulation and the measurement results for the LED with the size of $350{\mu}m$, the model is reasonable to simulate the forward voltage and the light output power. Using this model we investigated the optimization of the position and the number of the finger electrodes in a given chip area. It shows that the center disposition of the p-finger electrode in p-area is optimal for the voltage and best for the power. And the minimum number of the n-finger electrodes is best for the power.

  • A SPICE-based 3-dimensional circuit model of LED(Light-Emitting Diode) was developed for the design optimization and analysis of high-brightness LEDs. An LED is represented as an array of pixel LEDs with small preassigned areas, and each of the pixel LEDs is composed of circuit networks representing the thin-film layers(n-metal, n- and p-type semiconductor layers, and p-metal), ohmic contacts, and pn-junctions. Each of the thin-film layers and contact resistances is modeled by a resistance network, and the pn-junction is modeled by a conventional pn-junction diode. It has been found that the simulation results using the model and the corresponding parameters precisely fit the measured LED characteristics.

  • A Lead Extrusion Damper (LED) is experimentally studied under various frequencies and displacement amplitudes. Experimental results show that the force-displacement hysteresis loops of the LED are close to rectangular and the force-velocity hysteresis loops exhibit nonlinear hysteretic characteristic. Also, the LED can provide consistent energy dissipation without any stiffness degradation. Based on the experimental results, a mathematical model is then proposed to describe the effects of frequency and displacement on property of LED. It can be proved from the comparison between experimental and numerical results that the mathematical model can accurately describe the mechanical behavior of LED. Subsequently, the seismic responses of the Schwedler reticulated shell structure with LEDs are analyzed by ANSYS software, in which three different installation forms of LEDs are considered. It can be concluded that the LED can effectively reduce the displacement and acceleration responses of this type of structures.

  • The author analyzes the luminous efficiency of the phosphor-conversion white light-emitting diode (LED) that consists of a blue LED chip and a yellow phosphor. A theoretical model is derived to find the relation between luminous efficiency (LE) of a white LED, wall-plug efficiency (WPE) of a blue LED chip, and the phosphor absorption ratio of blue light. The presented model enables to obtain the theoretical limit of LE and the lower bound of WPE. When the efficiency model is applied to the measured results of a phosphor-conversion white LED, the limit theoretical value of LE is obtained to be 261 lm/W. In addition, for LE of 88 lm/W at 350 mA, the lower bound of WPE in the blue LED chip is found to be ~34%. The phosphor absorption ratio of blue light was found to have an important role in optimizing the luminous efficiency and colorimetric properties of phosphor-conversion white LEDs.
