  • Crime victims have had features of both causing a crime and the object of protection from the society. These contrasting characteristics have led to develop victimology. As the result, the classification of the victim has been generalized. Direct damage caused by the crime victim is grouped into the first damage, and collateral damages caused by the 1st one are could be identified as the 2nd or the 3rd one. In this paper, it is aimed that problems of victim classification in Korea have been studied by comparing foreign countries' classification.

  • The purpose of user participatory design is to project the images and demands of all the users of a school in person through their direct and active participation. Also, user participatory design is supposed to reduce the role of professionals who have led design to date and to expand the role of users and participants; thereby improving design quality in school construction. The study propose design realization methods using design camp courses and SNS based user participatory workshops. And The study propose on-offline based method and tool which are able to reflect diverse situations and purposes. Finally, the study proposed an application scenario for applying the above proposed methods efficiently in user participatory design. For the application scenario, the study proposed an SNS-based user participatory design method as the most appropriate for Korea.

  • Epoxy/S2-glass reinforced composites (SGRPs) infused with Cloisite 30B nanoclays were manufactured using the vacuum assisted resin infusion molding (VARIM) process. Prior to infusion, the matrix and clays were thoroughly mixed using a direct mixing technique (DMT) and a high shear mixing technique (HSMT) to ensure uniform dispersion of the nanoclays. Structures with varying clay contents (1-3 wt%) were manufactured. Both pristine and SGRP nanocomposites were then subjected to mechanical testing. For the specimens manufactured by DMT, the tensile, flexural, and compressive modulus increased with increasing the clay content. Similarly, the tensile, flexural, compressive, interlaminate shear and impact strength increased with the addition of 1 wt% clay: however the trend reversed with further increase in the clay content. Specimens manufactured by HSMT showed superior properties compared to those of nanocomposites containing 1 wt% clay produced by DMT. In order to understand these phenomena a morphological study was conducted. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs revealed that HSMT led to better dispersion and changed the nanoclay structure from orderly intercalation to disorderly intercalation giving multi-directional strength.

  • Pusan's reputation as the nation's most crowded city in terms of population density is attributable to its huge mountains which allow only small portion of residential area to its large population. Rapid increase of urban population on limited amount of land had naturally led its developments efforts to mountainous area giving rise to the concern of potential landslide. This study on urban Pusan and "Landslide Hazard Map" thereof is prepared in an attempt to avoid disasters created by landslide and also as a reference for city planners. The Map shows that the area covering 38% to 43% of urban Pusan has the potential for landslide. The study also shows that various civil works involving massive land excavation had been more direct cause of landslides in Pusan than such traditional factors as locations, ground slopes, rock types and topography of the area concerned.

  • The direct reaction method has been used for the fabrication of Al-Mg/$Al_2O_3$ functionally gradient materials. It was found that the reaction layer of the Al-Mg/$Al_2O_3$ powder compact at $900^{\circ}C$ under air atmosphere led to the formation of reaction layers with varying ceramic phase contents. As the results of experiments by using the TGA system, the characteristics and growth behavior of the reaction layers were affected by the reaction temperature, the gas flow rate, the Mg contents and the $Al_2O_3$ contents.

  • Nucleic acid therapies represent a direct genetic approach for cancer treatment. Such an approach takes advantage of mechanisms that activate genes known to confer a growth advantage to neoplastic cells. The ability to block the expression of these genes allows exploration of normal growth regulation. Progress in antisense technology has been rapid, and the traditional antisense inhibition of gene expression is now viewed on a genomic scale. This global view has led to a new vision in antisense technology, the elimination of nonspecific and undesirable side effects, and ultimately, the generation of more effective and less toxic nucleic acid medicines. Several antisense oligonucleotides are in clinical trials, are well tolerated, and are potentially active therapeutically. Antisense oligonucleotides are promising molecular medicines for treating human cancer in the near future.

  • This paper examines the effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) on South Asian economies' output growth, utilizing recent panel cointegration testing and estimation techniques. Annual panel data on eight SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) member countries' macroeconomic variables over the period 1960- 2013 are employed in empirical analysis. Using various heterogeneous panel cointegration and panel causality tests, a bi-directional relationship between FDI and growth is found. We find evidence for both FDI-led growth and growth-induced FDI hypotheses for the South Asian economies over the sample period. Individual member countries exhibit heterogeneity in terms of the direction or existence of causality subject to their idiosyncratic economic conditions. Among various regressors, FDI, financial development, human capital, and government consumption show the most significant positive effects on output growth. As determinants of FDI, GDP, financial development, human capital, and government consumption are found significant in the region. The bi-directional causality between FDI and growth is found robust to the inclusion of other control variables and using different estimation techniques.

  • single-minded (sim) is a master regulatory gene that directs differentiation in the central nervous system during Drosophila embryogenesis. Recent identification of the mesectoderm enhancer (MSE) of sim has led to the hypothesis that two Snail (Sna)-binding sites in the MSE may repress sim expression in the presumptive mesoderm. We provide evidence here that three Sna-binding sites proximal to the sim promoter, but not those of the MSE, are responsible for the mesodermal repression of sim in vivo. Using transgenic embryos injected with lacZ transgenes, we showed that sim repression in the mesoderm requires the three promoter-proximal Sna-binding sites. These results suggest that Sna represses the mesectodermal expression of sim by directly repressing the nearby promoter, and not by quenching adjacent transcriptional activators in the MSE. These data also showed how the MSE, lacking the three proximal Sna-binding sites, reproduced the endogenous pattern of sim expression in transgenic embryos.

  • Naturally occurring sugar mimics with a nitrogen in the ring are classified into five structural classes: polyhydroxylated pyrrolidines, piperidines, indolizidines. pyrrolizidine, and nortropanes. Glycosidase are involved in a wide range of important biological processes, such as intestinal digestion, post-translational processing of glycoproteins and the lysosomal catabolism of glycoconjugate. The realization that alkaloidal sugar mimics might have enormous therapeutic potential in many diseases such as viral infection, cancer and diabetes has led to increasing interest and demand for these compounds. Most of these effects can be shown to result from the direct or indrect inhibition of glycosidases.

  • A direct-lit color-matching liquid crystal display using a lenticular lens array with grouped lens elements that image linear RGB light sources on the RGB subpixels of a color filter to enhance transmittance is designed, simulated, and fabricated. The RGB LED linear light sources were fabricated using small RGB LEDs in a linear array arrangement, and the lenticular lens array consisted of eight units of the same structure with a gap of 2.19 mm. The optical transmittance of the liquid crystal panel was improved by as much as 240% due to the color matching.
