  • Purpose: Cancer patients experience a range of physical and psychological sequelae. Consistent nursing support should be provided along the cancer treatment path. This study aimed to i)examine the effects of a telephone counseling program after discharge on perceived health, psychological well-being, and satisfaction with nursing services, and ii)describe symptom distress and their coping methods. Method: The study was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pre-post test. The sample included 20 women with gynecologic cancer in the experimental group and the same in the control group from a university hospital in Seoul. The telephone intervention was given once from 5 to 7 days after the chemotherapy. The General Well-Being Schedule and Symptom Distress Scale were used. Result: An effect from telephone counseling was found only in the vitality subscale of psychological well-being. Other subscores, perceived health, or satisfaction with nursing services did not differ between the two groups. Pain, skin change, decreased appetite, and constipation were the major symptoms and a relatively few coping strategies were utilized. Conclusion: Protocol of telephone counseling led by a nurse needs to be further developed in regard to best timing, amount, and target effects for follow-up care of gynecologic cancer patients.

  • In this study, the lower limbs joints were analyzed for features based on the biomechanical characteristics of landing techniques according to height and landing on the ground type (flats and downhill). In order to achieve the objectives of the study, changes were analyzed in detail contents such as the height and form of the first landing on the ground at different angles of joints, torso and legs, torso and legs of the difference in the range of angular motion of the joint, the maximum angular difference between joints, the lower limbs joints difference between the maximum moment and the difference between COM changes. The subjects in this study do not last six months did not experience joint injuries 10 males in 20 aged were tested. Experimental tools to analyze were the recording and video equipment. Samsung's SCH-650A model camera was used six units, and the 2 GRF-based AMTI were used BP400800 model. 6-unit-camera synchronized with LED (photo cell) and Line Lock system were used. the output from the camera and the ground reaction force based on the data to synchronize A/D Syc. box was used. To calculate the coordinates of three-dimensional space, $1m{\times}3m{\times}2m$ (X, Y, Z axis) to the size of the control points attached to the framework of 36 markers were used, and 29 where the body was taken by attaching a marker to the surface. Two kinds of land condition, 40cm and 60cm in height, and ground conditions in the form of two kinds of flat and downhill slopes ($10^{\circ}$) of the landing operation was performed and each subject's 3 mean two-way RM ANOVA in SPSS 18.0 was used and this time, all the significant level was set at a=.05. Consequently, analyzing the landing technique as land form and land on the ground, the changes of external environmental factors, and the lower limbs joints' function in the evaluation were significantly different from the slopes. Landing of the slop plane were more load on the joints than landing of plane. Especially, knee extensor moment compared to the two kinds of landing, slopes plane were approximately two times higher than flat plane, and it was statistical significance. Most of all not so much range of motion and angular velocity of the shock to reduce stress was important. In the further research, front landing as well as various direction of motion of kinetic, kinetic factors and EMG variables on lower limbs joints of the study in terms of injury-prevention-approach is going to be needed.

  • Rust is one of the most destructive diseases on economically important plants such as agricultural and horticultural crops, as well as forest trees [1]. Chemical treatment is the most effective means to control rust, but use of the chemical fungicides involves inevitable risks to human health and environment [2]. Unfortunately, biocontrol is currently impracticable for rust disease management [3]. It is necessary to exploit biocontrol agents to help prevent rust diseases. As a fundamental research for future development of biocontrol agents for rusts, biodiversity of hyperparasites occurring on rust fungi was investigated. During 2006-2010, 197 fungal isolates of the rust hyperparasites were collected and isolated from various combinations of mycohosts and plant hosts in many regions of Korea. Based on morphological and molecular data, they were identified as 8 genera and 12 species. Besides, phylogenetic relationships between the hyperparasites and related taxa were inferred. A total of 114 isolates of Pseudovirgaria were obtained from rust pustules of Phragmidium spp. and Pucciniastrum agrimoniae infecting rosaceous plants. Phylogenetic analysis using multigene sequences revealed a high level of genetic variability among many isolates of Pseudovirgaria and close correlation between the isolates and mycohosts. Only two species of Pseudovirgaria, P. hyperparasitica and P. grisea are often difficult to distinguish by their morphological similarity, but on the molecular basis they were clearly differentiated from each other. There had been no previous record of P. grisea outside Europe, but the present study has proved its presence in Korea. Among six distinct groups (five of P. hyperparasitica and one of P. grisea) within the Pseudovirgaria isolates, each lineage of P. hyperparasitica was closely associated with specific mycohosts and thus might have cospeciated with their mycohosts, which probably led to coevolution. Although P. grisea possesses a host preference for Phragmidium species occurring on Rubus, it was not specific for a mycohost. P. grisea seems to evolve in the direction of having a broad mycohost range. Seventeen isolates of Verticillium-like fungi were isolated from rust sori. Based on morphological data and DNA sequence analysis, the isolates were identified as three Lecanicillium species, viz. L. attenuatum, Lecanicillium sp. 1, Lecanicillium sp. 2, and V. epiphytum. The unidenified two species of Lecanicillium appear to be previously unknown taxa. Sixty-six isolates of miscellaneous hyphomycetes belonging to 6 species of 5 genera were obtained from pustules of rust fungi. On the basis of morphological and molecular analyses, the miscellaneous hyphomycetes growing on rusts were identified as Acrodontium crateriforme, Cladophialophora pucciniophila, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Phacellium vossianum, Ramularia coleosporii, and R. uredinicola.

  • Liquefied gas carriers generally transport cargoes of flammable or toxic nature. Since these cargoes may cause an explosion, fire or human casualty, the accommodation spaces, service spaces and control stations of liquefied gas carriers should be so located as to avoid ingress of gas. For this reason, the paragraph 8.2.9 of IGC Code in IMO requires that the height of vent exits should be not less than B/3 or 6 m whichever is greater, above the weather deck and 6 m above the working area and the fore and aft gangway to prevent any concentration of cargo vapor or gas at such spaces. Besides as known, the LNG market has been growing continually, which has led to LNG carriers becoming larger in size. Under this trend, the height of a vent will have to be raised considerably since the height of a vent pipe is generally decided by a breadth of a corresponding vessel. Accordingly, we have initiated an examination to find an alternative method which can be used to determine the safe height of vent masts, instead of the current rule requirement. This paper describes the dispersion characteristics of boil-off gas spouted from a vent mast under cargo tank cool-down conditions in the membrane type LNG carriers.

  • In gas industries, the potential risks of serious accidents have been increased due to high technology application and process complexities. Especially, in case of gas-related accidents, the extent of demage is out of control since gas plants handle and produce combustible, flammable, explosive and toxic materials in large amounts. The characteristics of this kind of disaster is that accident frequency is low, while the impact of damage is high, extending to the neighboring residents, environment and related industries as well as employees involved. The hydrogen gases treated important things and it used the basic material of chemical plants and industries. Since 2000, this gas stood in the spotlight the substitution energy for reduction of the global warming in particular however it need to compress high pressure(more than 150 bar.g) and store by using the special cylinders due to their low molecular weight. And this gas led to many times the fire and explosion due to leak of it. To reduce these kinds of risks and accidents, it is necessary to improve the new safety management system through a risk management after technically evaluating potential hazards in this process. This study is to carry out the quantitative risk assesment for hydrogen filling plant which are very dangerous(fire and explosive) and using a basic materials of general industries. As a results of this risk assessment, identified the elements important for safety(EIS) and suggested the practical management tools and verified the reliability of this risk assessment model through case study of accident.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the volatility and properties of a time series for tangerine prices in Jeju using the GARCH model of Bollerslev(1986). First, it was found that the time series for the rate of change in tangerine prices had a thicker tail rather than a normal distribution. At a significance level of 1%, the Jarque-Bera statistic led to a rejection of the null hypothesis that the distribution of the time series for the rate of change in tangerine prices is normally distributed. Second, the correlation between the time series was high based on the Ljung-Box Q statistic, which was statistically verified through the ARCH-LM test. Third, the results of the GARCH(1,1) model estimation showed statistically significant results at a significance level of 1%, except for the constant of the mean equation. The persistence parameter value of the variance equation was estimated to be close to 1, which means that there is a high possibility that a similar level of volatility will be present in the future. Finally, it is expected that the results of this study can be used as basic data to optimize the government's tangerine supply and demand control policy.

  • Merocyanine derivatives transformed from spiropyran-containing compounds by irradiating the light of ultraviolet (UV) include zwitterion of phenolate anion and amine cation. Complexation of this phenolate anion on merocyaninemodified surface and Ni ion among metal ions led to a change of surface charge and it was measured with kelvin prove force microscopy (KFM). We found that the resultant surface potential decreased linearly as UV-exposed time increased, and finally were saturated. Also it was analyzed through XPS the immobilized amount of Ni ions was increased according to increase of UV-exposed time. It is considered that these properties could be applied for detection and a quantitative control of different metal ions. Further research is to aim construct specific scaffold/matrix which enable high selective, high sensitive and, especially, a quantitative immobilization of metal ions-binding biomaterials such as proteins and cells.

  • The experimental study used in this paper was done to examine the clinical effects of Taeumchowetang for the gastric ulcer and the function of gastrointestinal tract using rats and mice which were administered orally the water extraction from Taeumchowetang. Then, the counter-action of the water extraction on the isolated ileum and gastric fundus, the inhibitory effects of pylorus-ligated ulcer and indomethacin-induced ulcer, the associations with gastric juice secretion, total acidity, pepsin output, the transportability in the small and large intestine, were studied with administering acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. In addition, it was investigated whether the central nervous system related to pain control and sleeping time was influenced by Taeumchowetang. The following results have been obtained; 1. As resulting from injection of acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride into the isolated ileum of rats and mice, Taeumchowetang led to have an inhibitory effect on the muscle contraction of the ileum. Then, acetylcholine chloride was measured as lower effect than barium chloride 2. For the inhibitory effect on contraction for the gastric fundus strip in rats by either acetylcholine chloride or barium chloride, the one showed low inhibitory effect, on the other hand the other showed density-dependent effect. 3. The water extraction was given on the pylorus ligated ulcer with using two different administration groups of 1,300mg/kg and 2,600mg/kg, each result was measured as 22.9% and 36.5% for an ulcerous inhibitory effect (p<0.05). 4. According to the two administration groups, the preventive effect was tabulated 18.1% and 29.3% for indomethacin-induced ulcer (p<0.05, P<0.01). 5. For associations with gastric juice secretion, total acidity, pepsin output in the administration group 2,600mg/kg, Taeumchowetang was recognized as having an inhibitory effects related to suppressive actions involving gastric juice secretion(p<0.05), and free acidity(p<0.01), but there was no significant association with total acidity and pepsin output. 6. To know the transportability in the intestine, BaSO4 solution was used. The transportability of the small intestine in the administration group 2,600mg/kg was 22.2% which was statistically significant compared with the large intestine's transportability(P<0.01). 7. In the administration group 1,300mg/kg and 2,600mg/kg, analgesic effect with against acetic acid was measured as being 16.8% and 24.4% which was shown as statistically siginificant(p<0.01). 8. No statistically significant association between Taeumchowetang and sleeping time was found in both 1,300mg/kg and 2,600mg/kg by administering phenobarbital-Na. According to the results of this study, Taeumchowetang has agreed with the effects of literature review. Further more in this study, Taeumchowetang also has preventive effects on pylorus-ligated ulcer. Hence, Teaumchowetang can be significant effect such as both anti ulcer agent and increasing gastric activity for the patients who suffer from gastric ulcer.

  • The main goal of this study was to investigate biomodification mechanism of lignin by white rot fungus, Abortiporus biennis, and to depolymerize ethanol organosolv lignin for industrial application. In nitrogen-limited culture, A. biennis polymerized mainly lignin showing a rapid increase of molecular weight and structural changes depending on incubation days. At the initial incubation days, cleavage of ether bonds increased phenolic OH content, while the results were contrary in of the later part of the culture. Based on these results, ascorbic acid as a reducing agent was used to induce depolymerization of lignin during cultivation with white rot fungus. As a result, the degree of increase of average molecular weight of lignin was significantly declined when compared with those of the ascorbic acid free-experiment, although the molecular weight of fungus treated sample slightly increased than that of control. Furthermore, lignin derived oligomers in culture medium were depolymerized with the addition of ascorbic acid, showing that the average molecular weight was 381 Da, and phenolic OH content was 38.63%. These depolymerized lignin oligomers were considered to be applicable for industrial utilization of lignin. In conclusion, A. biennis led to the polymerization of lignin during biomodification period. The addition of ascorbic acid had a positive effect on the depolymerization and increase of phenolic OH content of lignin oligomers in medium.

  • If conventional reinforcements are used for high-strength concrete (HSC) structures, a large amount of the reinforcement must be required to compensate for the brittleness of HSC and make the best use of HSC. This raises some structural problems such as steel congestion and an increase in self-weight. Therefore, alternative reinforcing materials and methods for HSC structures are needed. In this study, four full-scale beam specimens constructed with HSC (100 MPa) were tested to investigate the effect of the different shear reinforcements on the shear behavior. These four specimens were reinforced for shear stirrups with normal and high strength steels, headed bars, and carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars, respectively. In addition, steel fibers were added to the HSC in the two of the specimens to observe their beneficial effects. The use of high strength steels resulted in the improvement of the shear capacity since the shear resistance provided by the shear reinforcements and the bond strength were increased. The specimen reinforced with headed bars also showed a superior performance to the conventional steel reinforced specimen due to the considerably high anchorage strength of headed bar. CFRP bars used in this research, however, seemed to be inadequate for shear reinforcement because of the inferior bond capacity. The presence of the steel fibers in concrete led to remarkable improvement in the ductility of the specimens as well as in the overall cracks control capability.
