Development of Projection Scanbeam-SLA using Liquid Crystal Display and Visible Light Emitting Diode (LCD와 가시광선 LED를 사용한 전사방식의 Scanbeam-SLA 개발)

  • In Projection Stereolithography Apparatus (PSLA), Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) are used as a beam pattern generator. The DMD shows high resolution, but it is mostly applied in micro stereolithography due to high cost and fabricable area. In LCD, the size of pattern beam is freely controlled due to various panel sizes. The LCD, however, has some limitations such as short life time by the high power light source, non-uniform light intensity of pattern beam and low transmittance of UV-light. To solve these problems in LCD-based PSLA, a Scanbeam-SLA with LCD of 19 inches and visible LED-array is developed. In this system, the light module works like a scanner for uniform illumination. The system configuration, working principle and fabrication examples are addressed in this study.

  • 질화물 반도체 기반 가시광 청색 Light Emitting Diode(LED) 기술은 디스플레이의 Back Light Unit(BLU)뿐 아니라 일반 조명에 활용되며 우리 실생활에서 매우 밀접하게 사용하고 있다. 가시광보다 짧은 파장을 가지는 자외선 LED의 경우 경화기 및 위폐감지기에 기존의 유해 가스를 사용하는 자외선 램프를 대체하고 있다. 자외선 광원의 또 다른 거대 시장으로 살균 및 정화, 의료 및 바이오 응용 시장에서 자외선 램프를 대체할 수 있는 자외선 LED 기술이 활발히 발전하고 있다. 본고에서는 이들 자외선광원 시장동향과 국내외 자외선 LED의 기술동향을 파악하므로 앞으로 연구개발의 방향을 모색하고자 한다.

Novel Gain Control Scheme of Efficient Signal Detection Technique for Multiple Access VLC Systems (다중 접속 가시광 통신을 위한 신호 검출 기법의 게인 조절)

  • In this paper, a transceiver of VLC (Visible Light Communication) using LED white lighting has been implemented. We analyzed differences between conventional wireless communication and VLC with high-speed data transmission in a variety of environments, and confirmed symbols which passed through a channel using QAM. In order to get a high data rate, we found some variables that should be considered essentially though experiments. In addition, we set a bandwidth and found an optimal gain according to the distance between transmitter and receiver. We analyzed proposed system model through Labview and finally showed a system performance and to efficient data transmission and detection for VLC, we apply the orthogonal sequences to VLC system.

  • To use the GaN based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as solid state lighting sources, the improvement of light extraction and internal quantum efficiency is essential factors for high brightness LEDs. In this study, we suggested the new materials system of a zinc tin oxide (ZTO) layer formed on blue LED epi-structures to improve the light extraction. ZTO is a representative n-type oxide material consisted of ZnO and SnO system. Moreover, ZTO is one of the promising oxide semiconductor material. Even though ZTO has higher chemical stability than IGZO owing to its SnO2 content this has high mobility and high reliability. After formation of ZTO layer on p-GaN layer by using the spin coating method, structural and optical properties are investigated. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement results show the successful formation of ZTO. The photoluminescence (PL) and absorption spectrum shows that it has 3.6-4.1eV band gap. Finally, the light extraction properties of ZTO/LED chip using electroluminescence (EL) measurement were investigated. The experimental and theoretical analyses were simultaneously conducted.

Implementation of the Equalization Circuits for High Bandwidth Visible Light Communications Using Phosphorescent White LED (인광성 백색 LED의 가시광 통신 변조 대역폭 향상을 위한 등화기 구현)

  • In this paper, a commercial phosphorescent white light-emitting diode (WLED) visible light communication (VLC) system with an equalization circuit to achieve the high modulation bandwidth was designed and demonstrated. An analytical method to examine the performance of the equalizer was carried out using a general circuit-simulator, PSpice. The equalization circuit was composed of two passive filters with resisters and a capacitor and an active filter with an op-amp. Utilizing our post-equalization technology, the ~3.5 MHz bandwidth of phosphor WLED could be extended to ~25 MHz without using an optical blue-filter. In this VLC system with a single round-type WLED and a single PIN photo-diode, ASK data transmission up to 35 Mbps at a 1m free space distance was obtained. The resulting bit-error-rate was $7.6{\times}10^{-4}$, which is less than the forward error correction (FEC) limit of $3.8{\times}10^{-3}$.

  • LED-ID (Light Emitting Diode - Identification) is one of the key technologies for identification, data transmission, and illumination simultaneously. This is the new paradigm in the identification technology environment. There are many issues are still now challenging to achieve high performance in LED-ID system. Collision issue is one of them. Actually this is the most significant issue in all identification system. LED-ID system also suffers from collision problem. In our system, collision occurs when two or more readers transmit data to tag at the same time or vice versa. There are many anti-collision protocols to resolve this problem; such as: Slotted ALOHA, Basic Frame Slotted ALOHA, Query Tree, Tree Splitting, and Q-Algorithm etc. In this paper, we propose modified Q-Algorithm to resolve collision at tag. The proposed protocol is based on Q-Algorithm and used the information of arrived readers to a tag from neighbor. The information includes transmitting slot number of readers and the number of readers that can be arrived in next slot. Our proposed protocol can reduce the numbers of collision slot and the successful time to identify all readers. In this paper our simulation and theoretical results are presented.

  • A high light lantern system using LEDs is composed of power supply, flash controller, and daylight controller and proper case considering work condition. The performance of developed LED lantern is better than that of the existing marine lantern using an incandescent electric lamp and that of foreign products(Vega LED lantern made in New Zealand, Tideland system made in America). The electric consumption of our products is 30% compared with that of existing marine lantern using an incandescent electric lamp, and the luminous Intensity of them is 200% to 400% compared with that of existing marine lantern and foreign LED lantern. In addition, our LED lantern system is easy to repairing something wrong and changing the LED module and other controllers on the sea when they are in accident.

  • 최근 다양하게 연구되고 있는 무분극(nonpolar) 갈륨질화물(GaN) 소재는 자발분극(spontaneous polarization) 및 압전분극(piezoelectric polarization) 등이 발생하지 않아 높은 내부양자효율의 확보가 가능하며, 이러한 장점을 바탕으로 고효율 특성을 갖는 발광다이오드(light-emitting diode) 및 고속 전자소자 등으로의 적용을 위한 연구가 활발히 수행 중 이다. 하지만, 무분극 GaN LED의 구현 시, GaN 박막의 비등방성 성장으로 인한 박막의 막질 저하와 함께 표면에 혼재하는 Ga층과 N층에서 기인되는 절연층의 생성으로 인한 오믹전극 형성의 어려움이 대두되고 있다. 따라서, 고효율의 무분극 GaN LED 구현을 위해서는 무분극 GaN층의 질소층 제거를 위한 표면처리 공정과 더불어 금속/무분극 GaN층 간 발생되는 쇼트키 장벽층의 높이(Schottky barrier height)를 제어하는 연구가 선행되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 무분극 GaN LED 적용을 위한 n-형 전극물질 및 오믹조건 구현을 위한 금속/무분극 GaN층간 SBH의 제어방법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다.

Estimation of the Light Intensity by Using Bright-Chip LED Sensory System (고휘도 발광 Chip 소자를 이용한 빛의 명암도 분석)

  • The light intensity which represents the relative amount of brightness and darkness is very important feature to discern the color hue and its relevant information. With this aim, we devise a new optical system and method to analyze the light intensity. Our suggested system including a phototransistor and white-high-brightness chip light-emitting diode intend estimate the contrast value utilizing Image Research Institute(I.R.I.) Hue & Tone samples which includes 120 color sheets arranged by the color hue and tone. As a result, we confirmed that the brightness of the color checker can be accurately estimated by a high-brightness light-emitting-diode optical system.

Analysis of Electrical/optical Characteristics Using The Octagonal Finger Type Electrode Pattern for Large-scale Lateral GaN LED (팔각 핑거 타입 전극패턴을 이용한 대면적 수평형 GaN LED의 전기적/광학적 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, we report on the improved electrical and optical characteristics for decreasing current crowding effect and uniform current distribution by designing octagonal finger type electrode pattern in large-scale lateral GaN (Gallium Nitride) LED (Light-emitting diode) with numerical 3-D simulator. Compared with the conventional electrode pattern, proposed electrode pattern was investigated to confirm the improvement of characteristics. From the simulation results of 3-D SpeCLED/RATRO simulator, we found that the forward voltage was decreased by 0.34 V and the light output power was improved by 7.72 mW at the same injection current condition in the LED with proposed octagonal finger type electrode.
