  • Objective: The objective of this study was to compare maxillary soft tissue changes and their relative ratios to hard tissue changes after anterior segmental osteotomy (ASO)/bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) and Le Fort I/BSSRO in skeletal Class III malocclusion with upper lip protrusion. Methods: The study sample comprised the ASO/BSSRO group (n = 14) and the Le Fort I/BSSRO group (n = 15). The Le Fort I/BSSRO group included cases of maxillary posterior impaction only. Lateral cephalograms were taken 2 months before and 6 months after surgery. Linear and angular measurements were performed. Results: The anterior maxilla moved backward in both groups after surgery, however the amount of change was significantly larger in the ASO/BSSRO group (p < 0.01). The ratios of hard to soft tissue change were 79% (SLS to A point), 80% (LS to A point) in the ASO/BSSRO group, and 15% (SLS to A point), 68% (LS to A point) in the Le fort I/BSSRO group. In addition, there was a $3.23^{\circ}$ increase of the occlusal plane in the Le Fort I/BSSRO group. Conclusions: When two-jaw surgery is indicated in skeletal Class III patients with protrusive lips, ASO may be a treatment of choice for cases with more severe upper lip protrusion, while Le Fort I with posterior impaction may be considered if an increase of occlusal plane angle is required.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of 50% ethylalcohol extracts of Lespedeza cuneata G. Don (LE) on the activity of murine immune cells. LE was administered orally once a day for 7 days at the dose of 250 mg/kg. LE increased the cell viability of thymocytes, splenocytes and peritoneal macrophages in vitro and in vivo system, but decreased the cell viability of thymocytes and splenocytes in the presence of concanavalin A in vivo system. Also, the administration of LE was increased the production of ${\gamma}$-interferone, but did not affect the production of interleukin-2 and interleukin-4. Furthermore, LE decreased the phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages in vitro and in vivo system, but enhanced the production of nitric oxide. These results suggest that LE has a immuno-regulative action via stimulation of immune cells proliferation.

  • Among the classification of maxillary fracture, the Le Fort classification is the best-known categorization. Le Fort (1901) completed experiments that determined the maxilla areas of structural weakness which he designated as the "lines of weakness". According to these results, there are three basic fracture line patterns (transverse, pyramidal and craniofacial disjunction). A transverse fracture is a Le Fort I fracture that is above the level of the apices of the maxillary teeth section, including the entire alveolar process of the maxilla, vault of the palate and inferior ends of the pterygoid processes in a single block from the upper craniofacial skeleton. Le Fort fractures result in both a cosmetic and a functional deficit if treated inappropriately. In this article, authors review the management of a Le Fort I fracture with a case-based discussion.

  • Let $S\;=\;R[\chi_{ij}\mid1\;{\le}\;i\;{\le}\;m,\;1\;{\le}\;j\;{\le}\;n]$ be the polynomial ring over a noetherian commutative ring R and $I_p$ be the determinantal ideal generated by the $p\;\times\;p$ minors of the generic matrix $(\chi_{ij})(1{\le}P{\le}min(m,n))$. We describe a minimal free resolution of $S/I_{p}$, in the case m = n = p + 2 over $\mathbb{Z}$.

  • This study is intended to analyze the way of incorporating the effect of natural light into the architectural space design by Le Cobusier. The composition of modem architectural space is significantly different from that of classical architecture. Such transition is attributable to the change of tectonic method which was supported by the development of new materials and structural systems. In addition, the effect of natural light systems which is one of the main elements in architectural space has undergone significant changes in modern ages. Moreover, Le Corbusier introduces the new concept of natural light in his works. By bringing the above two trends together, this study analyzed the way how Le Cobusier applied light effect in his works. Specifically, findings regarding the 'traffic flow in the space' with the light, 'elevation effect' with the 'Brise soleil' in Le Cobusier's works were presented. And also the way of lighting the object in the space was presented.

  • Various fields are being researched through Deep Learning using CNN(Convolutional Neural Network) and these researches show excellent performance in the image recognition. In this paper, we provide streamlined GoogLeNet of CNN architecture that is capable of learning a large-scale Korean character database. The experimental data used in this paper is PHD08 that is the large-scale of Korean character database. PHD08 has 2,187 samples for each character and there are 2,350 Korean characters that make total 5,139,450 sample data. As a training result, streamlined GoogLeNet showed over 99% of test accuracy at PHD08. Also, we made additional Korean character data that have fonts that are not in the PHD08 in order to ensure objectivity and we compared the performance of classification between streamlined GoogLeNet and other OCR programs. While other OCR programs showed a classification success rate of 66.95% to 83.16%, streamlined GoogLeNet showed 89.14% of the classification success rate that is higher than other OCR program's rate.

  • The full-length cDNA of LeAPR1 encoded a protein of 461 amino acid residues, which contained homology with phosphoadenosine phosphosulphate reductase (PAPS reductase) in N-terminal and an adenylylsulfate reductase in N-term and C-terminal. Analysis of the deduced amino acid sequence of LeAPR1 revealed that it shares high sequence identity with potato StAPR (96% identity)(Gene bank accession no. CDC44841). We found that multiple copies of LeAPR1 gene are present in the tomato genome through southern blot using genomic DNA was digested with 3 different restriction enzymes. The expression of LeAPR1 was also examined in various organs and its expression was also detected at high levels in roots and stems. Only high amounts of LeAPR1 transcripts were detected at high transcripts in the leaves at time 0, and then reduced as the plant stressed by the NaCl and abscisic acid (ABA). After 24h treatment of NaCl and ABA were showed increasing patterns of LeAPR1 gene. Time course of LeAPR1 gene expression was examined under oxidative stresses from metyl viologen (MV) and hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$). In the presence of 10 mM $H_2O_2$ and $50\;{\mu}M$ MV, the levels of LeAPR1 transcript in leaves decreased after 1 h, and then increased strongly, peaked at 24 h. Our results indicated that LeAPR1 may play a role function of circadian regulation involved in abiotic stresses signaling pathways.

  • Purpose: This paper is an attempt to explicate the principle of space and form-making in Le Corbusier's architecture from the viewpoint of integrating and relating architecture with the natural landscape. It shows thereby how the geometrical element of architecture and the non-geometrical element of the nature coexist in terms of form. It also explains how space is deployed for the construction of cognitive system between natural landscape and architectural scenery in terms of space, hoping to make a contribution to design method of contemporary house as an elementary datum. Method: Three issues are studied, focusing on the designs around nineteenth thirties in the earliest phase of Le Corbusier: How architectural form and nature is related, how natural greens is introduced into urbanism, and how natural landscape is introduced to house design. 1) it is studied how the relation between the nature and the formal elements of purism in Le Corbusier's architecture is formed. 2) it is studied how the relation between the nature and architecture proposed in Le Corbusier's urbanism is formed. 3) Le Corbusier's "four compositions" is analyzed in terms of relation-formation between architectural space and the nature. 4) it is studied how the natural landscape is introduced to Le Corbusier's house-design in the form of architectural promenade. Result: It has been found out that the natural landscape in Le Corbusier's architecture is not just a simple background, but a necessary element for the consummation of form and space in his architecture, and that architectural inspiration is maximized with coexistence with nature.
