  • In this paper, a design method of LCL filter at the AC input side of a voltage source PWM converter is proposed. Effective method to prevent pollution of the utility caused by high frequency current ripple is to use a LCL filter instead of the L filter The C elements in the filter provide a low impedance path for the high frequency component, preventing them from entering the utility. A resistor in series with a capacitor is used for damping the resonance in the filter. The design examples are shown and the validity of the proposed design method is verified through the PSIM simulation.

  • A grid-connected inverter used for renewable energy resources produces harmonic components in the switching frequency. To effectively reduce switching harmonic components, several types of filter are generally used in the output stage of the grid-connected inverter. Many research works on LCL filter design have been done to maintain the performance with low cost. However, it is not easy to make the filter design be economical and optimal due to the varying characteristic of magnetic core and redundancy design by experience. In this paper, a design method for a LCL filter is presented through the inductor optimization scheme in view of the size and cost when the inductor is manufactured using the magnetic core. The effectiveness is verified through tests using a 3kW grid-connected inverter by simulations and experiments.

  • The analysis and design process of the LCL filter with passive damping circuits for three-phase grid-connected inverter are presented based on the generalized model of LCL filter. Several types of the passive damping circuits in previous studies could be compared and analyzed by using the generalized model considering various design criteria of passive damping circuits. According to the analysis in this paper, a reasonable configuration of passive damping circuits for three-phase grid-connected inverters is proposed. The validity of the proposed design process is verified by informative simulation and experimental results.

  • In grid-connected voltage-source inverters (VSIs), when compared with a simple inductive L filter, the LCL filter has a better performance in attenuating the high frequency harmonics caused by the pulse-width modulation of power switches. However, the resonance peaks generated by the filter inductors and capacitors can make a system unstable. In terms of simplicity and filter design cost, a passive damping method is generally preferred. However, its high power loss and degradation in high frequency harmonic attenuation are significant demerits. In this paper, a mathematical design solution for a passive LCL filter to derive filter parameters suppressing the high frequency current harmonics to 0.3% is proposed. The minimum filter inductance can be obtained to reduce the size of the filter. Furthermore, a minimum damping resistance design considering a current controller is analyzed for a stable closed-loop system. The proposed design method is verified by experimental results using a 5-kW three-phase prototype inverter.

  • Nowadays, the LCL-filter type becomes an attractive grid interfacing for grid-connected Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). LCL-filter can render the current harmonics attenuation around the switching frequency by using smaller inductance than L-filter. This paper presents a study about the LCL-filter design for single-phase grid-connected inverter in Photovoltaic (PV) system. According to the expected current ripple, the inductances of the filter can be determined. Based on the absorbed reactive power on capacitor, the capacitance can be calculated. Due to the theoretical analysis, a LCL-filter based single phase grid connected inverter control system are simulated. The studied simulation results are given to validate the theoretical analysis.

  • This study proposes a novel control and design method for a grid-connected inverter with an LCL filter without damping. The current resonance phenomenon must be considered when designing the grid-connected inverter system with an LCL filter. Passive or active damping is used in the inverter system to reduce the resonant current. However, passive damping reduces the efficiency of the system, and active damping methods are complex. If the resonant frequency is in a specific region, then the system will be unstable. This study examines the process of stabilizing the entire region without resonant damping. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experimentation.

  • This paper describes a design method of LCL filter for grid-connected three-phase PWM inverter. First, by analyzing the ripple component of phase voltages and currents according to the PWM pattern of grid-connected three-phase inverter, the RMS value of the current ripple can be calculated. Then based on the analysis, the current THD in the inverter-side can be defined. After that by analyzing the dependency between the current THD of the system and the current ripple attenuation, the parameter of LCL filter can be designed. Finally, the described LCL filter design method is verified by showing a good agreement between the target current $THD_g$ and the actual one through the simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, the design method of LCL filter at the AC input side of a voltage fed active power filter is proposed. The characteristics of harmonics suppression and current control performance of active power filter are described using the analysis of the relation of these characteristics and DC voltage, switching frequency, and AC inductor values. The design examples are shown and the validity of the proposed design method is verified through the PSIM simulation.

  • 본 논문은 LCL 필터를 사용하는 계통 연계형 인버터의 제어기 설계에 대해서 제안한다. 계통 전류를 제어할 경우 댐핑 기법 없이 시스템이 안정할 수 있는 범위가 넓다. LCL 필터의 공진 주파수와 샘플링 주파수에 따라 시스템은 안정 영역과 불안정 영역으로 나눌 수 있다. LPF(Low Pass Filter)를 사용하는 경우 불안정 영역을 줄일 수 있다. 불안정 영역에서 LPF를 사용한 시스템의 안정성을 유지할 수 있는 전류 제어기 설계기법을 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • A new design method for the LCL filters of three-phase voltage source PWM rectifiers is presented in this paper. Based on the single-phase harmonic equivalent model, the harmonic voltage of the rectifier side is calculated to design the LCL filter parameters by an iterative algorithm, in which the resonance frequency $f_{res}$ and the ratio r between the grid-side inductance and the rectifier-side inductance are selected as known constants. The design criteria and process are introduced and the influence on the design result by the value of the resonance frequency $f_{res}$, ratio r is analyzed. Finally an example (600V, 500kW) is tested by simulation and experiment to verify the validity of the new design method.
