Innovative application of Quality Cost System in LCD Industry (LCD 산업에서 품질코스트시스템의 혁신적 활용 연구)

  • LCD Enterprises introduce quality management strategy to survive in rapid change of production situation. Especially in LCD industry, competitiveness is more needed ever before in the decrease of investment resulted from frequent business fluctuations and in the appearance of the third competitor. In order to overcome this situation, the quality cost system should be implemented as it is suited to a company, but few companys introduce and apply the quality cost system in LCD industry. Thus, Critical factors for outstanding LCD company to apply successfully quality cost system are studied in this paper. The level of importance of the factors is measured be weighted value analysis and a way to maximize the effect of applying quality cost system in LCD industry is proposed by the order of importance.

  • This paper deals the TFT-LCD process and quality, process control problems of the process. For improvement of the process quality and yield, we apply a data mining technique to the LCD industry. And some unique quality features of the LCD process are also described. We describe some preceding researches first and relate to the TFT-LCD process and the problems of data mining in the process. Also we tried to observe the problems which need to solve first and the features from description below hazard must be considered a quality mining in LCD industry.

  • The TFT-LCD industry has shown dramatic growth by making technological advances and satisfying consumer needs. It now stands at the heart of the display industry. However, the TFT-LCD market is maturing and is unlikely to sustain the fast pace of growth in years to come. There has been an oversupply in the LCD sector entering 2008 due to capacity expansion aimed at fueling growth coupled with softening demand amid the global economic slowdown and recent financial turmoil. The LCD industry has successfully coped with oversupply on several occasions. Each time, LCD makers faced up to the challenge and responded with a pioneering spirit. They continued to grow by turning crisis into opportunity. LG Display aims to create new markets by developing products based on innovative technology and providing more attractive products through a value-added product planning that incorporates consumer needs. Through a continuous cost innovation targeted at stimulating demand by making products more economical to consumers, we will be at the forefront of overcoming the current oversupply and sustaining robust growth for the TFT-LCD industry. Depending on our management of the situation, the current oversupply could prove to be an opportunity to create even bigger markets for the future.

  • Even though the TFT-LCD industry gained enough momentum that has been built up in past 10 years, the industry faces new challenges in order to maintain the 'true mainstream display' position in near future.   • The industry of LCD monitor and LCD/TV production is complicate, so there are several OEM/ODM companies concentrated on technical and professional skills. Brand name company establishes its own brand name, sells its own product, and reflects market request. Therefore, the main duty of brand name company is on sales and marketing. This article explains the operating flow on LCD monitor and LCD/TV industry, operating relationship between brand name company and OEM/ODM, and advantage and disadvantage on different points. Furthermore, future trend of LCD monitor and LCD/TV can be reviewed in the article.

  • Flat Panel Displays (FPDs) have made a revolution in the display industry. TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) has been the main player of FPD for last two decades. As the industry continuously develops the technology for better performance with lower cost is constantly demanded where several post LCD technologies are being developed. One of the prime candidates of post LCD technology is AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) that is considered to be an ideal FPD due to its extraordinary display performance and potentially low cost display structure. This technology has been accepted to small size display applications, such as cellular phone, PDA and PMP, etc. In this paper it is discussed that how this technology can be extended to large size display applications, such as TV. The technical issues and solutions of TFT backplane and color patterning of OLED materials are discussed and proposed

  • In this paper, some automatic inspection algorithms for LCD module are suggested. Human eyes are very good for the inspection in many industrial areas. However, very bright LCD back lighting may cause permanent damage to the human eyes. Also, the growing size of the LCD make it more difficult for the human inspectors. Therefore, using camera set, automatic inspection process becomes very essential for the future LCD industry.

  • The SECS Ⅰ and Ⅱ Protocol has been widely used for the TFT LCD and semiconductor industry. This paper shows how the SECS protocol is implemented for data communications between the Host (CAM) and the TFT LCD equipments. In addition, this study introduces a way to apply the SECS protocol to the manufacturing systems control. It provides better throughput in terms of production and faster control of the automated TFT LCD manufacturing system by way of shortcut and distribution of control and data communications. The SECS protocol is successfully used for the control of the real TFT LCD manufacturing system.

  • LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)는 디지털 기기의 주요 구성 요소이며, 모든 크기의 FPD (Flat Panel Display) 시장에서 지배적인 시장점유율을 보인다. 그러나 많은 전문가들은 LCD 산업이 수년 내에 OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes), 3차원 디스플레이, 플렉서블 디스플레이와 같은 차세대 디스플레이 기술의 강력한 도전에 직면할 것이라고 예상한다. 이러한 경쟁환경에서 LCD 산업이 살아남기 위한 방안으로 본 연구에서는 LCD 산업의 경쟁력의 원천을 밝혀내고, 이를 극대화하는 전략적 방향을 제시한다. 이를 위해 먼저 LCD 산업구조와 가치사슬을 분석하여 LCD 산업의 경쟁력을 제고하기 위한 기본적인 전략적 대안을 개발한다. 이 단계에서 얻어진 통찰력을 바탕으로, 인과지도(causal loop diagram)와 시스템 다이나믹스 (system dynamics) 방법론을 활용하여 기존의 LCD 산업구조에서 판매량, 시장점유율 및 이익 등의 핵심 지표에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 구조적 특징을 규명한다. 또한, 여기서의 다이나믹스 모형을 바탕으로, LCD 제조업자의 관점에서 프로세스 역량을 극대화할 수 있는 전략적 대안을 모색한다.

  • The fashion industry has become more interested in sustainable fashion design due to the demand for environmental action based on increased social responsibility awareness and environmentalism. In the current sustainability fashion industry, guidelines for sustainable fashion design are essential. This study suggests guidelines for a sustainable design process based on a theoretical and practical approach. An analysis of several global fashion brands will be applied to the whole apparel design process. This paper will explore the sustainable fashion design process and deal with LCD, as an important factor, by analyzing three global fashion brands: 'H&M', 'NIKE', and 'Levi's'. These three companies are the most active in the area of sustainable performance. The sustainable fashion guidelines will be controlled based on a strategy of practical use in design for sustainable (DFS) fashion industry. The results indicate that the fashion industry has to invest heavily in the future rather than focus on short-term profits; consequently, sustainability is a new growth direction for fashion companies. In addition, the fashion industry should work towards sustainable design under a clear understanding of its goals.
