Mobile internet service based on CDMA network evolution and multifunction mobile terminal is popular in Korea. Mobile internet service is classified as the information service using browser and mobile multimedia service using download platform. Killer applications based on multifunction mobile terminals have been developed for new business in mobile internet services. One of killer applications is location based seurvice (LBS) using mobile location information. In this paper, we develop mobile map browser using WIPI platform that is the main function in LBS. Mobile map browser interworking with GIS server provides the map information. The developed mobile map browser can be working on PDA and telematics terminals when WIPI is porting on these devices.

Recently, the need for LBS (Location Based Services) is increasing with the rapid growth of the location measurement units, mobile devices, and communication technologies. Especially, wireless carriers are concentrating on LBS since it is regarded as so-called 'killer application' among wireless data services. Although LBS give us convenience and useful information, its use also raises privacy issues. There are quite possibilities that the people's locations are tracked by location measurement units while people do not recognize the existence of the units. To protect a person's location information, lawful and technical aspects should be considered. In this paper, we explain issues, regulations, standards, and platforms related to the protection of the location information. Finally, we suggest the architecture of a platform complying with the regulations and standards. It considers various issues not covered in other studies.

A location-based service or LBS in a cellular telephone network is a service provided to the subscriber based on his current geographic location. This position can be known by user entry or a GPS receiver that he carries with him, but most often the term implies the use of a function built into the cell network that uses the known geographic coordinates of the base stations through which the communication takes place. One implication is that knowledge of the coordinates is owned and controlled by the network operator, and not by the end user. Location utility service provides two kinds of functions, geocoder and reverse geocoder. Geocoder converts an address into a coordinate and reverse geocoder changes a coordinate into an address. Because location utility service is the first step to progress LBS, various servises such as directory, routing, presentation, and etc require to access that. In this paper, we will describe the architecture of LBS platform and the concept and the role of location utility service.

Location-based services or LBS refer to value-added service by processing information utilizing mobile user location. With the rapidly increasing wireless Internet subscribers and world LBS market, the various location based applications are introduced such as buddy finder, proximity and security services. As the killer application of the wireless Internet, the LBS have reconsidered technology about location determination technology, LBS middleware server for various application, and diverse contents processing technology. However, there are fears that this new wealth of personal location information will lead to new security risks, to the invasion of the privacy of people and organizations. This paper describes a novel security approach on open LBS service to validate certificate based on current LBS platform environment using XKMS (XML Key Management Specification) and SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language), XACML (extensible Access Control Markup Language) in XML security mechanism.

무선 인터넷 기술의 발달과 응용의 확산으로 인하여 위치 정보를 이용한 서비스 형태는 아주 다양하여 지고 있으며, LBS(Location-Based Services)라는 형태로 국내외 시장에서 급속히 확장하고 있다. LBS 플랫폼은 이러한 위치 기반 서비스를 가능하게 하는 핵심 요소이며, 위치 정보 제공 게이트웨이, 위치 응용 서버, 핵심 기능 제공 서버 등과의 상호 운용을 지원해야 하며, 개인 및 서비스에 대한 프로파일 관리, 과금 처리, 이동체 트리거 등의 기능을 제공하는 시스템이다. 즉, 모든 위치기반 서비스를 수행하려고 하는 개인 혹은 응용 서비스 제공자들은 이러한 LBS 플랫폼을 거쳐, 위치 및 다양한 핵심 기능의 조합 형태인 서비스를 제공 받게 된다. 표준화된 소프트웨어 기술인 웹서비스는 LBS 플랫폼과 타 시스템(솔루션, 핵심 기능 제공 서버, 위치 정보 제공 서버 등)과의 인터페이싱을 가능하게 하는 표준 인프라이다. LBS 플랫폼 웽 서비스는, 솔루션 서버에서 요청하는 서비스에 대한 과금 처리를 위한 자체 과금 비즈니스 모델을 포함하고 있으며, 이러한 과금에 대한 처리를 수행하면서 타 시스템과의 상호 운용은 여러 가지 형태로의 구성이 가능하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 LBS 플랫폼이 상호 운용하는 주요 시스템과의 인터페이싱을 위한 웹 서비스 구성 방법에 대한 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

이동 통신 기술의 발달과 휴대 단말기 등의 진화에 따라 위치기반 서비스(LBS)가 인터넷을 통해 가장 성장성이 높은 새로운 서비스 분야로 자리 잡고 있다. 하지만 LBS 핵심 기반 기술의 성장에 비해 그와 관련된 응용 서비스 및 콘텐츠의 개발 사례는 미비한 상태여서 LBS 산업의 활성화와 균형 있는 발전이 이뤄지지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 특화된 무선 설문을 제공하는 새로운 LBS 기반 응용 서비스를 제시하고, 응용 서비스의 이동통신사 간 다양한 휴대 단말기의 지원과 호환을 위하여 무선 인터넷 표준 플랫폼 WIPI를 활용한 시스템을 제안하다. 제안된 시스템은 설문양식과 사용자를 관리하는 서버와 사용자 단말 클라이언트 어플리케이션으로 구성되며 LBS와 연동하여 특정 지역에 맞는 특화된 설문을 제공한다.

The success of gCRM depends on the availability of adequate, real-time data about customers' location and the provision of diverse value-added services utilizing it. In the existing gCRM systems, however, it seems that the positional precision of customers' location is very low, and further that the services based on real-time location data are not provided. In order to overcome these weaknesses and extend the limited scope of gCRM, we suggest a new design of gCRM system integrated with LBS. We also describe in some detail the system prototype for such an integration.

LBS (Location Based Services)란 휴대폰, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), 노트북 PC 등 위치 추적이 가능한 단말기를 휴대한 사용자의 현재 및 과거 위치 정보를 활용한 유무선 인터넷 서비스를 말한다. 최근의 이동 통신 기술의 발달과 휴대폰, PDA 등과 같은 모바일 단말의 급속한 확산으로 인하여 LBS 는 유무선 인터넷의 응용 및 위치 정보를 사용한 부가 가치 창출에 있어 핵심적인 역할을 할 것으로 예상되고 있다. 이러한 LBS 를 위해서는 단말의 위치 정보들을 저장 및 관리하고 위치 정보를 이용하여 다양한 위치 기반 서비스를 지원하는 LBS 플랫폼의 역할이 매우 중요하다. 이를 위한 LBS 플랫폼은 위치 정보의 획득. 위치 정보의 저장 및 관리, 인증 및 정보 보호 등의 사용자 관리, 대용량 위치 정보 데이터베이스의 관리 등의 기능을 제공하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 1) 위치 기반 서비스를 위한 LBS 플랫폼으로써 사용될 수 있는 참조 시스템을 설계한다. 이를 위하여 LBS 플랫폼으로써 참조 시스템이 제공하여야 하는 기능과 각 기능의 처리 흐름을 UML 의 유스케이스(Usecase)를 사용하여 분석 및 설명한다. 또한 2) 설계된 참조 시스템을 사용하여 제공될 수 있는 서비스 시나리오를 알아본다.

The advent of LBS is caused by mobility advantage of wireless internet. The mobility has the information such as location which is based on LBS(Location based Services). It comes out as a killer application for wireless internet when market of wireless internet is diffused. In this paper, we build up the technical model and survey the requirement of technologies related LBS expanded as wireless internet services rapidly. First, we construct the conceptual model for LBS based on functions of LBS and characteristics of foreign models. This model is consisted of generalized components of LBS and can be used as a basic model to survey the requirement of each technologies. Second, we survey the demand of each technology for LBS. Then we analyze the importance of technologies for LBS to prepare developing various LBS. From this research, we can introduce proper plans and policy for LBS to develop technology stepwise, to promote industry activities and how to make up the foundation for LBS by government.
