  • Monolayers of lipids on a water surface have attracted much interest as models of biological membranes, but also as precursors of multilayer systems promising many technical applications. Until now, many methodologies have been developed in order to gain a better understanding of the relationship between the structure and function of the monolayers. Maxwell displacement current (MDC) measurement has been employed to study the dielectric property of Langmuirfilms. MDC flowing across monolayers is analyzed using a rod-like molecular model. A linear relationship between the monolayer compression speed a and the molecular area Am. Compression speed a was about 30, 40, and 50 mm/min. Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) layers of Arachidic acid deposited by LB method were deposited onto slide glass as Y-type film. The structure of manufactured device is Aul Arachidic acid! AI, the number of accumulated layers are $9{\sim}21$. Also, we then examined of the Metal-Insulator-Metal(MIM) device by means of I-V. The I-V characteristics of the device are measured from -3 to+3 V. The insulation property of a thin film is better as the distance between electrodes is larger.

  • A film is fabricated by depositing several slices ultra thin films on a slide glass. The UV-absorbance outcomed on a multi-layered bulky ultra thin film with (N-docosyl pyridinium)-TCNQ (1:2) complex results tat the quantity of UV-absorbances becomes more linearly according to the number of layer becomes higher. In addition, it is found that the capacitance of this film gets smaller as the number of layer gets higher. Finally, the conductivity of this film is measured by the direction of the long axis of the TCNQ radical anion, and is resulted in a remarkably low value (about 1.66∼3.78 x 10$\^$-14/S/cm).

  • We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is 30 [mN/m]. LB layers of Arac. acid deposited by LB method were deposited onto y-type silicon wafer as y-type film. In processing of a device manufacture. we can see the process is good from the change of a surface pressure for organic thin films and transfer ratio of area per molecule. The structure of manufactured device is Au/arachidic acid/Al. the number of accumulated layers are 9$\sim$21. Also. we then examined of the MIM device by means of I-V. • In the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, a monolayer on the water surface is transferred onto a substrate, which is raised and dipped through the surface. From this, multilayers can be obtained in which constituent molecules are periodically arranged. The LB technique has attracted considerable interest in the fabrication of electrical and electronic devices. Many researchers have investigated the electrical properties of monolayer and multiplayer films. Dendrimers represent a new class of synthetic macromolecules characterized by a regularly branched treelike structure. Multiple branching yields a large number of chain ends that distinguish dendrimers from conventional star-like polymers and microgels. The agobenzene dendrimer is one of the dendritic macromolecules that include the azo-group exhibiting a photochromic character. Due to the Presence of the charge transfer element of the azo-group and its rod-shaped structure, these compounds are expected to have potential interest in electronics and ptoelectronics, especially in nonlinear optics. In the present paper, we give pressure stimulation to organic thin films and detect the induced displacement current.

  • Electrical conduction phenomena of $C_{22}$-quinolium(TCNQ) Langmuir- Blodgett(LB) films are reported through a study of current-voltage(I-V) characteristics along a perpendicular direction. The I-V characteristics were investigated by applying a step or a pulse voltage to the specimen as well as changing temperatures in the range of 20-250[.deg. C] It show an ohmic behavior in low-electric field, and a nonohmic behavior in high-electric field. This nonohmic behavior has been interpreted in terms of a conduction mechanism of space-charge limited current and Schottky effect. When the electric field is near the strength of 10$_{6}$ V/cm, there occur anomalous phenomena similar to breakdown. When step or pulse voltage is applied, the breakdown voltage shifts to the higher one as the step or pulse time width becomes shorter. To see the influence of temperature, current was measured as a function of temperature under the several bias voltages, which are lower than that of breakdown. It shows that the current increases to about 103 times near 60-70[.deg. C], and remains constant for a while up to around 150[.deg. C] and then suddenly drops. We have also performed a DSC(differential scanning calorimetry) measurement with $C_{22}$-quinolium(TCNQ) powder in the range of 30-300[.deg. C]. These results imply that the anomalous phenomena occuring in the high electric field are caused by the electrical and internal thermal effect such as a joule heating.ating.

  • In this paper, we give pressure stimulation into organic ultra thin films and detected the induced displacement current properties, and then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition. In processing of a device manufacture, we can see the process is good from the change of a surface pressure and transfer ratio of area per molecule of organic ultra thin films. The structure of manufactured device is MIM(Au/polyimide LB films/AU), the number of accumulated 19 layers. I-V characteristic of the device is measured from -5[V] to +5[V]. The maximum value of measured current is increased as the number of accumulated layers are decreased. The insulation of a thin film is better as the interval between electrodes is larger, and the insulation properties of a thin film is better as the distance between electrodes is larger.

  • An ability of $NO_2$ gas detection has been investigated using dilithium phthalocyanine($Li_2Pc$) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. It is a well-known gas sensitive material and has been manufactured under a surface pressure of 30mN/m. A status of deposited films was confirmed by UV-visible absorption spectrum, ellipsometry measurements and current-voltage characteristics. Gas-detection characteristics of the films were studied through an electrical conductivity, response time, recovery time, and reproducibility under 200 ppm of $NO_2$ gases.

  • The electro-optic properties in Langmuir Blodgett films of poly (vinylidene fluoride trifluoroethylene) are investigated in the crossover region between two and three dimensions. The absence of finite size effect is observed in the films thinner than 20 nm, which confirms that these films are two dimensional ferroelectrics. The copolymer LB film of P(VDF-TrFE) exhibits the largest electro-optic response(26 pm/V) at 10 layer thickness. The cross-over behavior of electro-optic effect around the 10 layer thickness was discussed with the formation of nanomesa after thermal annealing.
