Electrical Properties of Molecular Diode Using Eicosanoic Acid Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) Monolayer Film (Eicosanoic Acid Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) 박막을 이용한 분자 다이오드의 전기적 특성)

  • Electron transfer through an Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) monolayer film sandwiched between metal electrodes. We used an eicosanoic acid material and the material was very famous as a thin film insulating material. Eicosanoic acid monolayer was deposited by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique and a subphase was a $CdCl_2$ solution as a 2${\times}10^{-4}$ mol/L. Also we used a bottom electrode as an Al/$Al_2O_3$ and a top electrode as a Al and Ti/Al. Here, the $Al_2O_3$ on the bottom electrode was deposited by thermal evaporation method. The $Al_2O_3$ layer was acted on a tunneling barrier and insulating layer in tunnel diode. It was found that the proper transfer surface pressure for film deposition was 25 mN/m and the limiting area per molecule was about 24 ${\AA}^2$/molecule. When the positive and negative bias applied to the molecular device, the behavior shows that a tunnel switching characteristics. This result were analyzed regarding various mechanisms.

  • Abstract We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is 10[mN/m]. In processing of a device manufacture, we can see the process is good from the change of a surface pressure for organic thin films and transfer ratio of area per molecule. The structure of manufactured device is Au/Poly-${\gamma}$ Benzyl $_D$-Glutamate/Al; the number of accumulated layers is 1, 3, 5 and 7. Also, we then examined of the MIM device by means of I-V. The I-V characteristic of the device is measured from 0 to +2[V]. We determined electrochemical measurement by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system. LB film accumulated by monolayer on an ITO. In the cyclicvoltammetry, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode measured in $LiBF_4$ solution, stable up to 0.9V vs. Ag/AgCl.

  • In this study, we studied optical properties on the layer-by-layer (LbL) assemblies consisting of Au nanorods and organic dyes. For this purpose, poly (allylamine hydrochloride), PAH and poly (styrene sulfonate), PSS were selected as ionic polymers and rhodamine B isothiocyanate (RB) was utilized as an organic dye based on its spectral overlap with plasmon band of Au nanorods. In the view point of assembling methods, RB was covalently attached to PAH, then, LbL structure of Au [PSS/PAH]2/PSS/PAH-RB was prepared by sequential coating of PAH, PSS, PAH-RB on Au nanorods. Since the prepared LbL assembly exhibits both plasmonic and fluorescent properties, we studied the mutual nanorod-dye properties by dissolving Au nanorods.

  • The characterization of organic Metal/Insulator/Metal(MIM) devices were investigated from LB films. The physicochemical properties of the LB films were by UV absorption spectrum and AFM. We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is 2, 10, 30[mN/ml The stable images are probably due to a strong interaction between the monolayer film and glass substrate. We are unable to obtain molecule resolution in images of the films but did see a marked contrast between images of the bare substrate and those with the network structure film deposited onto it.

  • It is well known that the metallo-phthalocyanines (MPcs) are sensitive to toxic gaseous molecules such as NO$_2$ as well as are chemically and thermally stable. Therefore, lots of MPcs have been studied as the potential chemical sensor for NO$_2$gas using quartz crystal microbalance(QCM) or electrical conductivity. In this study, thin films of octa(2-ethylhexyloxy)copper-phthalocyanine were prepared by Langmuir-Blodgett method and characterized by using UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy and ellipsometry. Optimal transfer condition of LB films was investigated and preliminary results of current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of these films exposed to NO$_2$gas as a function of film thickness, temperature and concentration were discussed.

  • Enhancing the electrical conductivity of the ultrathin organic films is one of the important factors for the development of molecular electronic devices. The Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique has recently been attracted interest as the a method of deposition ultrathin films. We have fabricated N-docosyl-N'-methyl viologen-diTCNQ(DMVT) anion radical LB film and investigated the optical and electrical conductivity. We have measured UV/visible and FT-lR spectrum. In ESR spectrum, we confirmed that a half-amplitude linewidth is clearly dependent on both temperature and incident angle, which indicates conducting species change. The in-plane electrical conductivity of 21 layers is approximately 1.37$\times$10$^{-6}$ (S/cm).

  • Maxwell displacement current (MDC) measurement has been employed to study the dielectric property of Langmuir-films. A method for determining the dielectric relaxation time $\tau$ of floating monolayers on water surface is presented. WC flowing across monolayers is analyzed using a rod-like molecular model. It is revealed that the dielectric relaxation time $\tau$ of monolayers in the isotropic polar orientational phase is determined using a liner relationship between the monolayer compression speed ${\alpha}$ and the molecular area Am. Compression speed ${\alpha}$ was about 30, 40, 50mm/min.

  • Using a solution of polyamic acid salt obtained in combination with polyimide acid, we successfully prepared thermally stable multilayers(41, 35, 31 layers) films disilane-containing polyimide by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique. We studied the electrically phenomena occurring at the metal(Au)/polyimide(Pl) LB film/metal(Au). Also, we then examined the of Pl LB films by means of current-voltage (I-V) and resistance measurement.

  • We have deposited the three kinds of the Langmuir-Blodgett films (Phenylhy drazone, O-stilbazene, N-stilbazene) which have optically nonlinear effect. To study the electro-optic characteristics of these LB films, we performed the differential attenuated total reflection experiment in which the optical properties of the LB films modulated by the electric field(νE = 1KHz). The surface non-linear susceptibilities $\chi$(2) of these LB films obtained, are 1.17$\times$10-10 (m/V), 36.3$\times$10-10 (m/V), and 1.62$\times$10-10 (m/V) for Phenylhydrazone, O-stilbazene, and N-stilbazene, respectively.

  • Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) 법은 미래의 분자전자소자를 위한 가장 유력한 수단이며, 이러한 분자박막 소자는 그 성질이 분자는 배향에 영향을 박데 되므로 현재 새로운 물질을 이용하여 분자전자소자의 제작에 있어 관심을 모으고 있다. 본 연구에서는 (N-docosyl quinolinium)-TCNQ(1:2) 전하 이동 착물 LB 막의 분자 배향을 UV/vis 편광흡수 스펙트럼과 FT-IR transmission 및 reflection-absorption 스펙트럼의 흡수강도를 비교하여 정량적으로 평가하였다. 그 결과 TCNQ의 transition dipole moment의 각은 약 56~58。 였으며, 알킬 고리의 경사각은 약 11.1~13。였다. 제작된 Z-형 LB 막의 표면은 고압에서 중앙 높이 차가 3~4$\AA$으로 평탄하였다.
