Effects of feed form and feed particle size with dietary L-threonine supplementation on performance, carcass characteristics and blood biochemical parameters of broiler chickens

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of form and particle size of feed supplemented with L-threonine on growth performance, carcass characteristic and blood biochemical parameters of broiler chickens. The experimental design was a $2{\times}2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments evaluating two feed forms (pellet or mash), two feed particle sizes (fine or course), and two inclusion rates of dietary L-threonine (with or without) which adopted from 7 to 42 days of age. In this experiment, 360 a day old chicks in two sexes were assigned in each treatment and each experimental unit was included 15 chicks. Feed consumption and weight gain were measured weekly. At 35 days of age, blood samples were taken to analysis blood biochemical parameters. At the end of the experimental period, two birds were slaughtered in each treatment and carcass analysis was carried out. The results showed that the effect of feed form on body weight gain and feed intake in whole of experimental period was significant (P < 0.05). Broilers fed pelleted diets had more weight gain than the mash group. Growth performance parameters were not affected by feed particle size and dietary L-threonine supplementation in whole of experimental period (P > 0.05). The results of carcass analysis showed that liver and gizzard relative weights were influenced by feed form (P < 0.05). However, pancreas and liver relative weights were affected by feed particle size and dietary L-threonine supplementation, respectively (P < 0.05). Triglyceride and VLDL levels were affected by feed form and dietary L-threonine supplementation (P < 0.05). The effect of feed particle size on blood biochemical parameters was not significant (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the experimental results indicated that feed form increased feed consumption and weight gain in whole of experimental period (1 to 42 days of age) while feed particle size and dietary L-threonine had no effect on broiler performance.

  • 1. Objective This study was aimed to screen the potential antitumor activity of one kinds of Korean medicinal herb extracts against cancer cell lines and to evaluate the growth inhibition effect of L-1210 and S-180 cancer cell lines. 2. Methods It confirmed Anemarrhena asphodeloides extracts to screen the potential antitumor activity. Then, it was extracted with 4 kinds of solvents ; hexane, ethyl acetate, butanol and $H_2O$, and the Growth inhibition effect of these extracts were determined against cancer cell and normal cell. The results were as follows : The IC50(50% inhibitory concentration) values of Anemarrhena asphodeloides extracts were shown to be $253{\mu}g/ml$ against L-1210 cell lines. The IC50 values of ethyl acetate extracts were shown to be $915{\mu}g/ml$ against L-1210 cell lines. The IC50 values of butanol extracts were shown to be $52.3{\mu}g/ml$, $485{\mu}g/ml$ against L-1210, S-180 cell lines, respectively. The butanol extracts were more selectively effective than other extracts to cancer cell lines. 3. Conclusion From these data, it could be concluded that the Anemarrhena asphodeloides extracts to the Growth inhibition effect of L-1210 and S-180 cancer cell lines.

이끼 추출물과 절화 보존제 혼용처리가 절화장미 'Enjoy'의 수명에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Moss (Hypnum jutlandicum) Extracts and Mixing Treatments with Preservatives on Vase Life of Rosa hybrida 'Enjoy')

  • 본 연구는 이끼의 추출물을 이용하여 절화장미 'Enjoy'의 수명을 효과적으로 연장시킬 수 있는 천연 절화수명 연장제를 개발하기 위하여 수행하였다. 이끼 추출물중 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 절화수명 연장에 가장 효과적이었던 Hypnum jutlandicum 2 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$에 sucrose 0, 1, 3, 5%를 첨가한 후 sucrose가 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 수명에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구의 결과, sucrose를 H. jutlandicum 추출물과 함께 사용할 경우에는 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 잎이 엽록소를 상실하여 탈색되고 위조현상이 발생하며, 오히려 절화의 수명이 단축되는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 H. jutlandicum 추출물과 HQS를 함께 사용하는 것은 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 수명을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 HQS를 100 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 농도로 첨가했을 때 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 수명연장 효과가 가장 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. H. jutlandicum 추출물 2 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 첨가구의 pH를 조절하지 않거나(pH 3.8), pH 3.0, 4.0, 5.0로 조절하여 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 절화수명에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, pH를 조절하지 않은 pH 3.8인 보존용액을 사용하는 것이 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 수명이 오래감을 알 수 있었다. 이상의 연구 결과, H. jutlandicum 추출물(2 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$)에 HQS(100 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$)를 첨가한 보존용액이 R. hybrida 'Enjoy'의 절화수명을 연장시켰으며, 이끼는 주변에서 쉽게 구할 수 있어 환경오염의 피해가 없으며 천연 보존제로서 개발가치가 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Effect of long term treatment of aqueous extract of Enicostemma littorale in Type 2 diabetic patients

  • We have evaluated the effect of long term treatment of Enicostemma littorale (E. littorale) in type 2 diabetic patients taking pills of aqueous extract of E. littorale regularly as a complimentary medicine for at least 9 months. The effects of E. littorale on glycemic control, lipid profile, cardiac function and DNA damage in these patients were compared with those who had not been regular in taking E. littorale but regular in taking other conventional anti-diabetics. Our data suggest that, E. littorale can maintain normal blood glucose, serum insulin, serum triglycerides levels of type 2 diabetic patients if taken regularly. E. littorale also improves insulin sensitivity, and normalize disturbed lipogram and elevated creatinine levels, thereby produces beneficial effect in preventing cardiovascular complications and may preserve the kidney function. The finding that E. littorale also prevents DNA damage suggest a long term effect in diabetic patients. E. littorale thus can be considered as safe supplementary therapy for a long term and effective management of type 2 diabetic patients.

가지(Solanum melongena L.) 활성물질의 라디칼 소거능과 산화적 스트레스에 대한 세포 보호 효과 (Free radical scavenging activity and protective effect from cellular oxidative stress of active compound from eggplant (Solanum melongena L.))

  • To investigate the protective effect of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and its active compound, delphinidin, we used in vitro and cellular system. The active fraction from eggplant, BuOH fraction, showed protective effect from hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress in WI-38 fibroblast cells. It suggests that eggplant would have the protective activity from radical-induced oxidative damage and its BuOH fraction would play the crucial role with antioxidative activity. In addition, delphinidin, the active compound from eggplant, exerted the strong 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl scavenging effect with $IC_{50}$ value of 6.59 ${\mu}g/mL$. Furthermore, the cellular oxidative stress was induced by 2,2'-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) in LLC-$PK_1$ cells, while treatment of delphinidin atteunated AAPH-induced oxidative stress as dose-dependent manner. The present study suggests the antioxidative activity of eggplant and delphinidin against free radical-induced oxidative stress.

방글라데시 식물 추출물의 항산화 및 항염 효과 연구 (Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Effects of Plant Extracts from Bangladesh)

  • In this study, 11 plant extracts from Bangladesh were used to evaluate the total phenolic and flavonoid content, in vitro antioxidant activities using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazolin-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. Also, the inhibitory effect of nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 macrophage cell line and the neuroprotective effect on H2O2-induced PC12 cells were tested. Our results revealed that Piper betle L. showed the highest total phenolic content (162.2 mg GAE/g extract) among the 11 plants from Bangladesh. Most plants showed strong radical scavenging effects and ferric reducing antioxidant power. Besides, Piper betle L. protected PC12 neuronal cells against H2O2 related oxidative stress in LPS-induced PC12 cells. Regarding the anti-inflammatory effect, Piper betle L. significantly inhibited NO accumulation in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Our results provide evidence that Piper betle L. could be useful for the development of functional health foods.

창이자의 사람 세포주에서의 발암 억제효과 (Effect of Xanthium sibiricum Patr. on Carcinogenesis in Human Cell Lines)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Xanthium sibiricum Patr. on carcinogenesis. Method: Water extract from Xanthium sibiricum Patr. (XPW) was prepared and investigated for the potential antitumor activity and inhibition of benzo[a]pyrene-DNA adduct formation and free radical formation. Result: It was shown that the water possess considerable toxicity toward tumor cell lines. Concentration of XPW at 1.0 mg/mL and 2.5 mg/mL resulted in more than 30% inhibition of growth in HeLa cells. Toxicity of XPW to A549 revealed that 54% inhibition of growth at concentration of 2.5 mg/mL. At concentrations of 0.5 mg/mL, 1.0 mg/mL and 2.5 mg/mL of XPW, the binding of [$^3H$]B[a]P metabolites to DNA of human Chang cell was inhibited by 19%, 33%, and 41%, respectively. There 18% and 32% inhibition in the free radical formation with XPW at the concentration of 1.0 mg/mL and 2.5 mg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: Water extract from Xanthium sibiricum Patr. (XPW) has antitumor and cancer chemopreventive activities.

지치 (Lithospermum erythrorhizon S.) Callus 생장에 미치는 저선량 $\gamma$선의 효과 (Effects of Low Dose $\gamma$ Radiation on Callus Growth of Lithospermum erythrorhizon S.)

  • 본 실험은 지치 (Lithospermum erythrorhizon)의 뿌리조직으로부터 유도한 캘러스에 ${\gamma}$선을 조사하여 배양기간과 배지조성 및 명.암배양의 조건에 따라 ${\gamma}$선 조사가 캘러스 생장촉진 효과가 있는지를 검토하고자 수행하였다. 지치의 캘러스 생장은 전체적으로 암배양에서보다 명배양에서 효과적이었다. r선 조사에 의한 효과에 있어서는 LLB2N2배지의 8 Gy에서 캘러스의 생장에 효과가 가장 좋았고, LLK2I0.2배지에서는 16 Gy에서 캘러스 생장효과가 좋았지만 암배양에서의 ${\gamma}$선처리 효과는 없었다. 명배양에서 LS배지에 BA 1 mg/L와 NAA 1 mg/L를 첨가할 경우, BA 2mg/L와 NAA 2 mg/L를 첨가할 때보다 캘러스의 생장효과가 있었으나, 암배양에서는 차이가 없었다. 특정선량에 대한 BA와 NAA의 농도에 있어서는 각각 2 mg/L가 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. MK2I0.2배지는 0.5 Gy와 1 Gy에서 캘러스의 생장에 효과적이었으나, 기본배지의 종류에 있어서는 MS배지보다 LS배지에서 더 효과적이었다. M-9배지에서는 명배양에서도 캘러스의 생장은 저조하였으나, 16 Gy 및 30 Gy에서 캘러스의 생장이 30%이상 증가하였다. 암배양에서는 ${\gamma}$선 조사에 의한 캘러스의 생장효과는 거의 없었다.

식물 생장 조절물질이 페레니얼 라이그라스의 재생에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Plant Growth Regulators on the Regrowth of Perennial Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.))

  • 예취한 페레니얼 라이그라스의 재생에 미치는 식물 생장 조절물질의 영향을 조사한 결과, 0.1. 0.5 mg/L의 cytokinin 처리시 가장 높은 재생력을 나타내었으며, kinetin과 2iP가 BAP보다 재생에 보다 좋은 영향을 미쳤다. 2,4-D의 경우, 0.1 mg/L에서 가장 높은 재생력을 나타내었으며, GA$_3$은 초기재생력은 왕성하였으나 예취 2주 이후의 생장이 느린 것으로 나타났다. Cytokinin과 auxin의 세포분열에 미치는 경합을 조사한 결과, kinetin과 2,4-D를 단독으로 처리했을 때보다 두 생장 조절물질을 함께 처리했을 때 더 좋은 재생력을 나타내었다. 페레니얼 라이그라스의 현탁 배양세포에서도 cytokinin 과 auxin을 단독으로 처리했을 때보다 함께 처리했을 때 세포분열이 왕성한 것으로 나타났다.

The mediating effects of post-pandemic health promotion behaviors in the relationship between anxiety and quality of life in young adults in South Korea: a cross-sectional study

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the mediating effects of health promotion behavior (HPB) in the relationship between anxiety and quality of life (QoL) in young adults living in the post-pandemic era. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive online survey design was utilized. Data on anxiety, QoL, HPB, and demographic characteristics were collected from 213 adults aged 19-35 years in Korea via an online survey in January 2024. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and PROCESS MACRO 4.2 software. Results: Strong correlations were observed among anxiety, QoL, and post-pandemic HPB (PP-HPB) in young adults, and anxiety and PP-HPB were identified as significant predictors of QoL. The total effect of anxiety on QoL was significant (B = -1.40, bootstrapped SE = 0.10), with both the direct effect (B = -0.70, bootstrapped SE = 0.09) and the indirect effect (B = -0.70, bootstrapped SE = 0.11) being significant. This suggests that PP-HPB partially mediated the relationship between anxiety and QoL. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of strengthening HPB with consideration of life changes since the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic to improve QoL among young adults with anxiety.
