Reaction of the Fe(II) Macrocyclic Complexes with Dioxygen : Preparation of New Unsaturated Ring Systems by Oxidative Dehydrogenation Reactions of Fe(II) Macrocyclic Ligands (이가철 거대고리 리간드의 착화합물과 산소 분자간의 반응 : 이가철 거대고리 리간드 착화합물의 산화성 탈수소 반응에 의한 새로운 불포화 고리계의 합성)

  • Reaction of the Fe(II) complex of a fully saturated tetradentate macrocyclic ligand [Fe([14]aneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{2+}$, where [14]ane$N_4$ represents 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane, with $O_2$ has been investigated in acetonitrile solutions. [Fe([14]aneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{2+}$ reacts with oxygen to yield low spin Fe(III) species, [Fe([14]aneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{3+}$, which undergoes metal ion assisted oxidative dehydrogenation of the macrocyclic ligand to produce low spin Fe(II) complex, [Fe([14]tetraeneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{2+}$. The macrocyclic ligand in [Fe([14]tetraeneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{2+}$ is highly unsaturated and its double bonds are conjugated. [Fe([14]dieneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{2+}$ and [Fe([14]dieneN$_4)(CH_3CN)_2]^{3+}$ are isolated as the intermediates of the reaction. The Fe(II) complexes involved in this oxidative dehydrogenation reaction react with carbon monoxide to give respective carbon monoxide derivatives, [FeL$(CH_3CN)(CO)]^{2+}$ (where L = macrocyclic ligand). The values of $v_{CO}$ of [FeL$(CH_3CN)(CO)]^{2+}$, and the electrochemical oxidation potentials of Fe(II) ${\to}$ Fe(III) and the qualitative stability toward air-oxidation for [FeL(CH$_3CN_2)^{2+}$ increase as the degree of unsaturation of the macrocyclic ligands increase.

Optimal Dietary Protein and Lipid Levels for Growth of Juvenile Muddy Loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (미꾸리(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) 치어 성장을 위한 사료의 적정 단백질 및 지질 함량)

  • A feeding trial was conducted to determine the optimum dietary protein and lipid levels for the growth of juvenile muddy loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus. Eight experimental diets (designated as P20L7, P20L14, P30L7, P30L14, P40L7, P40L14, P50L7 and P50L14) were formulated to contain 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% protein with 7% and 14% lipid. Three replicate groups of muddy loach (1.5 g/fish) were fed one of the experimental diets ad libitum for 8 weeks. Survival of fish fed the P20L14 diet was lower than in other groups (P<0.05). Specific growth rate (SGR) and feed efficiency (FE) of fish were affected by dietary protein (P<0.05) and lipid (P<0.005) levels. SGR and FE of fish tended to decrease with increasing dietary lipid level at the same protein level. There were no significant differences in SGR and FE among fish fed diets containing different protein levels ranging from 30% to 50% with the same lipid level. Whole body moisture and lipid contents were affected by dietary protein and lipid levels. Crude lipid content of fish fed the 14% lipid diets was higher than that of fish fed 7% lipid diets at each protein level. The results of this study indicate that a diet containing 30% protein with 7% lipid would be suitable for the optimum growth and effective feed utilization of juvenile muddy loach.

A Design of Dual-band Microstrip Antenna Loading Inverted-L-shaped Parasitic Elements Vertically at Radiation Apertures for GPS Applications (방사개구면에 역 L형 기생소자를 세운 GPS용 이중대역 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we present novel dual-band microstrip antennas using inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements vertically at radiation apertures for GPS L1(1.575 GHz) and L2(1.227 GHz) bands. For making dual band which has large interval, the inverted-L-shaped parasitic element was loaded at the radiation aperture of a half-wavelength patch antenna(GPS L1) in opposite direction of the feeding point for receiving the low frequency(GPS L2). The low frequency occurs by perturbation and coupling between the patch and parasitic. Next, due to use circular polarizations at the GPS applications, two inverted-L-shaped parasitic elements were loaded at radiation apertures of each polarizations and the feeding point was moved at diagonal part of the patch. The dimensions of the designed circularly polarized antenna were $88.5{\times}79{\times}10.4mm^3$ ($0.36{\lambda}L{\times}0.32{\lambda}L{\times}0.04{\lambda}L$, ${\lambda}L$ is the free-space wavelength at 1.227 GHz). Measured -10 dB bandwidths were 116.3 MHz(7.4%) and 64.3 MHz(5.2%) at GPS L1 and L2 bands, respectively. All of these cover the respective required system bandwidths. The measured 3 dB axial ratio bandwidths were 11.7 MHz(0.74%) and 14 MHz(1.14%), respectively. Within each of the designed bands, broadside radiation patterns were observed.

Physiological Study on the Hybrid by Interspecific Crossing between Porphyra pseudolinearis and P. dentata (Bangiales, Rhodophyta), Two Dioecious Species in Culture (잇바디돌김(Porphyra dentata Kjellman)과 긴잎돌김(Porphyra pseudolinearis Ueda)의 종간 교잡종의 생리특성)

  • Porphyra pseudolinearis and P. dentata from Korea were crossed and the hybrid was cultured at different temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20 or $25^{\circ}C$), photon flux densities (10, 20, 40 or 80${\mu}$mol m$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$) under photoperiods (14L:10D and 10L:14D). In the hybrids, the conchocelis grew faster at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 40$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ at $25^{\circ}C$ only, and were abundant, when cultured under 10L:14D. Foliose thalli of the hybrid grew rapidly at conditions of 10-2$0^{\circ}C$, 10L:14D and 15-2$0^{\circ}C$, 14L:10D but slowly at 5 and 2$0^{\circ}C$. No archeospores were observed any tested culture condition. Spermatangial and zygotosporangial sori were formed at the marginal portion o mature thallus. Zygotospores from the hybrid were released at 10-2$0^{\circ}C$ under both photoperiods, and gave rise to form conchocelis filament. Monoecious thalli were observed at 1$0^{\circ}C$ under 14L:10D. Neither monospores nor protothalli were produced from the conchocelis in culture.

Metabolism of $\textrm{N}_{G}$-Monomethyl-L-arginine Formation of N-Monomethylurea in rat ($\textrm{N}_{G}$-Monomethyl-L-arginine의 대사 : 흰쥐에서 N-monomethylurea의 생성)

  • After oral administration of $^{14}$ C-labelled $N^{G}$-mono[$^{14}$ C-methyl]-L-arginine into rats, 66.3% of the administered radioactivity has been recovered in the urine, and 86.2% of the total of the recovered radioactivity is recovered in the first 24-hr urine. Distributions of the radioactivity of the acidic, basic, and neutral portions and unmetabolized $N^{G}$-monomethyl-L-arginine are 33.3%, 40.2%, 12.5% , and 0.3%, respectively. The radioactivity corresponding N-monomethylurea is about 50% of the neutral portion and 6% of the administered radioactivity.ity.

Effects of Photoperiod Manipulation on Gonadal Activity of the Damselfish, Chromis notata

  • This study investigated the effect of different photoperiods (14L: 10D, 12L:12D and 10L:14D) on the gonadal development and GtH mRNA expression in the pituitary of damselfish. The results showed that gonadosomatic index (GSI) was significantly lower in shot photoperiod (10L:14D), in comparison with other photoperiodic group during the spawning season. After 60 days treatment, histological analysis of gonad tissue showed that the gonad of 10L:14D and 12L: 12D treatment groups were resting phase with spermatogonia and perinucleolus stage oocytes but the gonad of 14L:10D treatment group was still ripe phase with spermatozoa and mature stage oocyte. The $FSH{\beta}$ and $LH{\beta}$ mRNA expression in pituitary drastically decreased shot photoperiod treatment from July (spawning period). These results suggest that photoperiod is considered to be the most effective environmental factor in controlling the reproductive cycle of damselfish.

  • Radiochemical synthesis of $N^{G}$-mono[$^{14}$ C-methyl]-L-arginine is described. The compound was synthesized from radio-active mono[$^{14}$ C]-methylamine as easily and purified by strong cation-exchange resin (NH form) liquid chromatography using a gradient of ammonium hydroxide, and crystallized as flavianate. The free amino acid was successfully prepared by strirring its flavianate and strong anion-exchange resin (OH- form), which could remove the flavianic acid from its salt in water below room temperature. Purity of the compound was tested by thin-layer chromatography, thin-layer electro-phoresis, and scintillation spectrometry.y.

  • The flounder reared in captivity matured and spawned when the water temperature gradually increased to $14\~15^{\circ}C$ from $12^{\circ}C$ during winter and the diurnal photoperiod changed from 10L/14D in winter season to 14L/10D in spring. The eggs spawned naturally by reared spawners in captivity during the first half of a spawning period were superior in quality to those spawned during the later half. It would be better to use the eggs of the first half for the mass production of the seedlings.

Synergistic Effect of Physico-chemical Treatment and Bacteriocin Produced by Enterococcus faecium MJ-14 (Enterococcus faecium MJ-14가 생산하는 박테리오신과 물리화학적 처리의 상승효과)

  • When L. monocytogenes ($10^{5}CFU/mL$) at exponential phase cells were heated for 5 min at $65^{\circ}C$ in the presence of the bacteriocin (30 BU/mL) produced by E. faecium MJ-14, the number of viable cells was markedly reduced at p < 0.05. The bactericidal effect of bacteriocin showed synergism with combination ot organic acids (citric acid or acetic acid) or chemical preservatives (sodium benzoate, sodium lactate, sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate). For example, the number of viable cells was reduced by 4.8 log units under combination of the bacteriocin (30 BU/mL) and sodium nitrate ($100{\mu}g/mL$), while it was reduced by 1.1 log unit only under single treatment of the bacteriocin after 12 k at $37^{\circ}C$. The addition of the bacteriocin (300 BU/mL) into skim milk inoculated with L. monocytogenes ($10^{5}$CFU/mL) reduced the cells by 1.5 log unit, in case of the cell suspension stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 24 hr. Moreover, L. monocytogenes was reduced by 2 log unit when stored at $-20^{\circ}C$ for 7 days in gound pork added with 300 BU/mL of 린e bacteriocin.

Synthesis of a Di-N-cyanoethylated Tetraaza Macrocycle Containing Eight C-Methyl Groups and Its Nickel(II) Complex: Effects of the Methyl Groups on Their Properties

  • A new di-N-cyanoethylated 14-membered tetraaza macrocycle 1,8-bis(2-cyanoethyl)-3,5,7,7,10,12,14,14-octamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane $(L^2)$ and its nickel(II) complex $[NiL^2(OAc)]^+$ have been prepared. The square-planar complex $[NiL^2](C IO_4)_2$ can be prepared by addition of $HClO_4$ to a hot aqueous solution of $[NiL^2(OAc)]^+$ The Ni-N (tertiary amino group) bond distances $(2.008{\AA})$ of $[NiL^2](C IO_4)_2$ are relatively long, and the complex exhibits a d-d transition band at unusually long wavelength (ca. 515 nm). The complex $[NiL^2](C IO_4)_2$ rapidly reacts with acetate ion or ethylenediamine (en) to produce $[NiL^2(OAc)]^+$ or [Ni(en)_3]^{2+}$, respectively, and is readily decomposed in NaOH (0.01 M) solution. The chemical properties of $[NiL^2]^{2+}$ as well as its synthetic procedure are quite different from those for other related 14-membered tetraaza macrocyclic complexes.
