  • We numerically investigate a stable propagation regime of soliton pulse trains in fibers with periodically copensated loss by lumped optical amplifiers. When amplification solition pulses is 1.2~1.5 and the minimum soliton separation normalized by the soliton width becomes about 6. In cases of L=50[km], the allowable range of A is 1.5~1.7 under =6. The maximum allowable variation of the loss compensation in each lumped amplifier becomes +-2% of the fiber loss when L=50[km], A=1.6, and =6. Generally, the allowable rages of the soliton amplitude A and amplifier gain are inversely proportional to the amplification period L.

  • Some weight loss accelerating agents, dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride(DTAC), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide(DTAB), dodecyldimethylammonium chloride(DDBAC), polyoxyethylene(2) dodecylbenzylammonium chloride(PDBAC), and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-benzyl-2-undecylimidazolinium chloride(AEUIC), were synthesized. As a result of weight loss treatment of the weight loss accelerating agents with NaOH to PET fiber, the increase of weight loss was the order of PDBAC > DDBAC > DTAC > DTAB > AEUIC. Among the weight loss accelerating agents, AEUIC hardly showed weight loss effect, and it was separated into two layer in the NaOH solution at the treatment concentration above 6g/L, but POBAC showed good weight loss effect of 21% that approach almost to a theoretical weight loss, 21.6%, at the concentration above 8g/L.

  • The effect of the number of nodes on the heat loss from a rectangular fin for a finite difference method is studied. There are two ways for selecting nodes for the upper half fin in this finite difference method. In the first place, all the ${\Delta}x$ are the same and all the ${\Delta}y$ are the same for the entire upper half fin. Incremental length of x (i.e. ${\Delta}x$) is divided by two near the fin tip while all the ${\Delta}y$ are the same for another way. The results show that 1) About 30 nodes are enough to obtain the satisfactory exact analysis (relative error < 5%) on the heat loss for a given range of Biot number in case of short fin (i.e. $L{\leq}2$). 2) Under usual circumstances (Bi<0.1), the relative error of heat loss between using 30 nodes and 90 nodes is within 4% for given range of non-dimensional fin length. 3) The relative error of the calculated heat loss (the number of node=90) as compared to the expected exact heat loss is less then 1.5% for Bi=0.1 and L=10 while that is over 13% for Bi=1.0 and L=10.

  • Image super-resolution (SR) processing is of great value in the fields of digital image processing, intelligent security, film and television production and so on. This paper proposed a densely connected deep learning network based on cascade architecture, which can be used to solve the problem of super-resolution in the field of image quality enhancement. We proposed a more efficient residual scaling dense block (RSDB) and the multi-channel cascade architecture to realize more efficient feature reuse. Also we proposed a hybrid loss function based on L1 error and L error to achieve better L error performance. The experimental results show that the overall performance of the network is effectively improved on cascade architecture and residual scaling. Compared with the residual dense net (RDN), the PSNR / SSIM of the new method is improved by 2.24% / 1.44% respectively, and the L performance is improved by 3.64%. It shows that the cascade connection and residual scaling method can effectively realize feature reuse, improving the residual convergence speed and learning efficiency of our network. The L performance is improved by 11.09% with only a minimal loses of 1.14% / 0.60% on PSNR / SSIM performance after adopting the new loss function. That is to say, the L performance can be improved greatly on the new loss function with a minor loss of PSNR / SSIM performance, which is of great value in L error sensitive tasks.

  • This paper deals with the design of the L-band rotary joint, which is a core part of the tracking radar system. The rotary joint is a part that is mounted on the rotating parts of the tracking system antenna, which smoothly transmits RF signals with minimizing signal insertion loss. To improve the insertion loss of rotary joint, 1) dielectric materials, 2) design of distribution ring and 3)dielectric shape are studied. The performance of proposed rotary joint is compared with the conventional product. The prototype rotary joint showed a max insertion loss of 0.68dB, that is improved about 46% compare with conventional product which insertion loss was 1.26dB.

  • Eotaxin is an important inflammatory chemokine in eosinophil chemotaxis and activation and, thus, is implicated in asthma. Recently, obesity was associated with an increased prevalence of asthma, but the relationship between obesity and eotaxin expression has only been partially understood in obese mice and human studies. Therefore, we studied the expression patterns of eotaxin in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes/adipocytes to determine whether eotaxin levels are influenced by body weight gain and/or reduction in diet-induced obese mice. First, we investigated eotaxin expression during differentiation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Then, we treated 3T3-L1 preadipoeytes/adipoeytes with tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$), eotaxin, interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, or leptin. To examine the effects of weight loss in high-fat diet induced obese mice, we fed C57BL/6 mice a high-fat diet or a normal diet for 26 weeks. Then, half of the high-fat diet group were fed a normal diet until 30 weeks to reduce weight. Epididymal adipose tissue, visceral adipose tissue, serum, and bronchoalveolar fluid of mice were examined for eotaxin expression. The results showed that eotaxin expression levels increased with adipocyte differentiation and that more eotaxin was expressed when the cells were stimulated with TNF-${\alpha}$, eotaxin, IL-4, IL-5, or leptin. An in vivo study showed that eotaxin levels were reduced in visceral adipose tissues when high-fat diet fed mice underwent weight loss. Taken together, these results indicate a close relationship between eotaxin expression and obesity as well as weight loss, thus, they indirectly show a relation to asthma.

  • A jet-loop reactor was used for the biological treatment of ethylene glycol(EG) which is a main component of polyester weight-loss wastewater, and is difficult to be removed by physicochemical treatments. Volumetric oxygen coefficient(kLa) of jet-loop reactor was significantly larfgeer that of air-lift reactor. When organic loading rates of synthetic polyester weight-loss wastewater were 2.64 $kgOD_{Mn}/m^3$.day and 3.07 $kgCOD_{Cr}/m^3$.day, the effluent concentrations were measured as 154 $mgCOD_{Mn}/L$ and 156$mgCOD_{Cr}/L$, and removal efficiencies were found as 93%and 93.6%, respectively. The specific removal rate was proportionally increased from 0.25 to 1.60 $kgCOD_{Mn}$-removed/kgMLVSS.day as specific loading rate was increased from 0.25 to 1.72 $kgCOD_{Mn}$/kgMLVSS.day. Also, kinetics constants such as $K_s$, k, $K_d$, and Y were estimated as 89 mg/L, $0.05 hr^{-1}$, 0.1$day^{-1}$ and 0.78 respectively. When the organic loading rates of real polyester weight-loss wastewater were 2.64 $kgOD_{Mn}/m^3$. and 5.24 $kgCOD_{Cr}/m^3$. day, the effluent concentrations were measured as 150 $mgCOD_{Mn}$/L, and 306 $mgCOD_{Cr}$/L, and removal efficiencies were found as 93.2% and 93%, respectively. This study demonstrated that EG in the wastewater could be efficiently removed biologically using a jet-loop reactor.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of mangosteen extract complex (MEC; Garcinia mangostana L. and propolis extracts) on the inhibition of inflammation and prevention of alveolar bone loss using a ligature-induced periodontitis model. Rat molars were ligatured with silk, and $1{\mu}g/mL$ of lipopolysaccharide of Porphyromonas gingivalis was injected into the buccal and palatal gingivae of the teeth with or without treatment with the MEC. Changes in the expression levels of prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$), interleukin-8 (IL-8), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8), cyclooxygenase (COX)-1, and COX-2 in gingival tissues were evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Alveolar bone loss around the ligated molars was examined using micro-computed tomography. The expression levels of $PGE_2$, IL-8, iNOS, MMP-8, COX-1, and COX-2 in gingival tissues were significantly reduced in the group treated with a mixture of $16{\mu}g$ of mangosteen extract powder and $544{\mu}g$ of propolis extract powder (ligation [Lig] + lipopolysaccharide extracted from P. gingivalis KCOM 2804 [L] + MEC 1:34). Additionally, alveolar bone loss was significantly reduced in the Lig + L + MEC 1:34 group compared with that in other groups. These results indicate that the MEC could be useful in preventing and treating periodontitis.

  • Attenuation in vegetation is important, for both terrestrial and earth-space systems. However, the wide range of conditions and types of foliage makes it difficult to develop a generalized prediction procedure. Currently, there is also a lack of suitably prediction model and measured experimental data for vegetation loss. So in this paper, vegetation loss data for four different tree-species, including Dawn-redwood tree, Plane tree, Pine tree and Fir tree are obtained by measurement in the frequency range of 1.0 $\sim$ 6.0 GHz. The through or scattered component is calculated using a model based upon the theory of RET(Radiative Energy Transfer) and RET modeling parameters are extracted from the measured data.
