  • It is desirable to collect the solar thermal energy at relatively high temperature in order to minimize the size of thermal storage system and to enlarge the scope of solar thermal energy utilization. In this study, to develop a solar collector that has both advantages of collecting solar thermal energy at high temperature and fixing conveniently the collector system for long term period, a cylindrical parabolique concentrating solar collector (M.C.P.C.S.C) was designed, which has several rows of parabolique reflectors and thin thickness such as the flat-plate solar collector, maintaining the optical form of concentrating solar collector. The thermal performance of the M.C.P.C.S.C. newly designed in this study was analysed theoretically and experimentally. The results are summarized as follows: 1) prediction equation for outlet temperature, $T_o$, of heat transfer fluid and for the thermal efficiency, ${\eta}$, of the collector were derived as; o $$T_o=[C+B1_n(\frac{I_c(t)}{pv^3})]T_i$$ o $${\eta}=\frac{A}{A_c}\dot{m}[(C-1)+B1_n(E{\cdot}di^6\frac{I_c(t)}{\dot{m}^3})]\frac{T_i}{I_c(t)}$$ 2) When the insolation on the tilted solar collector surface, $I_c$, was $900-950W/m^2$ and the heat transfer fluid was not circulated in tubular absorber, the maximum temperature on the absorber surface was $100-118^{\circ}C$, this result suggested that the heat transfer fluid could be heated up to $98-116^{\circ}C$. The maximum temperature on the absorber surface was decreased with the increase of the collector shape factor, $L_p/L_w$ 3) There was a good agreement between the experimental and theoretical value of solar collector efficiency, ${\eta}$, which was proportional to the collector shape factor, $L_p/L_w$ 4) It is desirable to continue the study on the relationship between the collector shape factor, $L_p/L_w$, and the thermal efficiency of solar collector.

  • In this study I investigate how native Korean listeners perceive English vowels /i/, /I/, and /$\epsilon$/. I extend Flege et al's (1997) study with synthesized /i/-/I/ and /I/-/$\epsilon$/ continua, and apply the results to Flege's (1995) Speech Learning Model (SLM). The statistical results show that native speakers of English rely more on spectral steps than on vowel duration when they identify the /i/-/I/ continuum, whereas native speakers of Korean rely more on vowel duration than on spectral steps when they identify the same continuum. In the case of the /I/-/$\epsilon$/ continuum, both groups rely on spectral steps when they identify the /$\epsilon$/, which supports the SLM; Koreans identified the /$\epsilon$/ categorically since Korean has the equivalent vowel. However, there was not statistical difference between Korean subjects with more English experience (KE) and those with less English experience in the identification of both continua. This contradicts the SLM, which posits that experienced L2 learners are better than inexperienced L2 learners in perception of L2 sounds. The exact nature of this should be further investigated in the SLM.

  • Given operators X and Y acting on a Hilbert space H, an interpolating operator is a bounded operator A such that AX= Y. An interpolating operator for n-operators satisfies the equation AXi= Yi, for i = 1,2,...,n, In this article, we showed the following : Let H be a Hilbert space and let L be a subspace lattice on H. Let X and Y be operators acting on H. Assume that rangeX is dense in H. Then the following statements are equivalent : (1) There exists an operator A in AlgL such that AX = Y, A$\^$*/=A and every E in L reduces A. (2) sup{(equation omitted) : n $\in$ N f$\sub$I/ $\in$ H and E$\sub$I/ $\in$ L}<$\infty$ and = for all E in L and all f, g in H.

  • A threonine overproducer, E. coli TF427, which is resistant to threonine analogue, a-amino-(3-hydroxyvaleric acid (AHV), and requires both methionine and isoleucine was developed by the mutations of E, coli W3110 using N-methyl-Nf-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (NTG) and UV. The E. coli TF427 produced 46.5 gll of threonine in a 5-L jar fermentor after 44 hr cultivation. The aspartokinase I of TF427 was not inhibited by threonine, and its synthesis was not repressed by threonine plus isoleucine.

  • Objectives In recent years, we are concerned about anti-aging and longevity. And I heard that Mori Fructus has been used for promotion of health in local clinics. So I wanted to know immuno-ability of Mori Fructus and carried out this experiment. Methods We cultivated 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes and Protein chip used for $ProteoPlex^{TM}$ 16-Well Murine Cytokine Array Kit. Results We known the immunity of Mori Fructus about 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes and gained the increase of Cytokines(IL-2, IL-4, IL-12p70, GM-CSF, INF-${\gamma}$, TNF-${\alpha}$). Conclusions So I guess that Mori Fructus has effect of immuno-ability, etc.

  • The purpose of the study is to examine the use of emotion vocabulary by Korean English learners. Three basic emotion fields, pleasure, anger, and fear were selected to elicit the participants' responses. L1 English speakers' data was also collected for comparison. The major results are as follows. First, English learners responded with various inappropriate verb forms like I feel~, I am~ while the majority of English native speaking teachers responded with subjunctive forms like I would feel~. In addition, L2 English learners used mostly simple and coordination sentences. Second, the lexical richness, measured through type/token ratio, was higher in English L1 data than in English L2 data. The proportion of emotion lemmas reflects the lexical richness or the diversity of the emotion words. Lastly, L2 English learners' responses focused on a few typical adjectives like happy, angry and scared. This structural and semantic distinctiveness of Korean English learners' emotion words was discussed from pedagogical perspectives.

  • A number of substituted furodiketochroman derivatives ($lll_{a-f}$) have been synthesized by fusion of aromatic aldehydes with 5-hydroxybergapten and 5-hydroxyisopimpinellin. On the other hand, when the reaction was carried out in a solvent, the corresponding bis-furoccumarin derivatives ($lV_{c-n}$) were obtained. The anticoagulant effect of compounds $lll_{a,b,d}$ and $lv_{b,c,f,g,i,k}$ was tested. They failed to demonstrate any significant effect. The effect of the tested compounds on the arterial blood pressure was studied. Compounds $lV_c$, $lll_d$, $lll_b$, $lV_b$, $lV_k$ and $lV_i$ showed lowering effects on the normal systolic blooc pressure of anaesthetized rats in a decreasing manner.

  • A vertex coloring of a graph G is called injective if any two vertices with a common neighbor receive distinct colors. A graph G is injectively k-choosable if any list L of admissible colors on V (G) of size k allows an injective coloring 𝜑 such that 𝜑(v) ∈ L(v) whenever v ∈ V (G). The least k for which G is injectively k-choosable is denoted by χli(G). For a planar graph G, Bu et al. proved that χli(G) ≤ ∆ + 6 if girth g ≥ 5 and maximum degree ∆(G) ≥ 8. In this paper, we improve this result by showing that χli(G) ≤ ∆ + 6 for g ≥ 5 and arbitrary ∆(G).

  • It has been reported that Magnoliae cortex extract has antibacterial and antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microbes and Zea Mays L. extract is effective for improving gingival tissue health. The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects of Zea Mays L. and Magnoliac cortex extract mixtures through experimental peridontitis induced beagle dog model. Nine beagle dogs with experimentally induced periodontitis were selected. Baseline clinical indices which includes plaque index, gingival index, probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, gingival fluid flow rate were recorded and microbial assays were done. Magnoliac cortex and Zea Mays L., mixed at 2:l ratio in 105mg capsular dosage, were taken by 3 capsule (Group I) or 6 capsule dosages (Group II) three times a day. After 4,8,12 weeks, clinical indices were recorded. All data of clinical indices were compared through one-way ANOVA with 95% confidence level. Clinical indices of group I and II showed significantly better results than those of control group. There were no significant differences between group I and II. In conclusion, it was confirmed that mixture of Magnoliae cortex and Zea May L. (mix ratio 2:1) possessed clinical improving effects to periodontitis.
