  • As the pre-stage of making 3D stabilizing systems, at this paper designed 2D stabilizing system. This is composed of two axes stabilizing platform to preserve targeted direction while vehicle is moving. The system maintains stabilization by recovering error using the rate gyro with DSP TMS320F240 as controller, vibratory rate gyro (Tokimec co. TFG -l60D) as gyro scope, SD1015B52-1·SD1004C04-l/DM1015B DM1004C as direct drive driver/motor, PI control as control algorithm. This paper got a comparably good stabilization.

  • This paper describes a remote monitoring system of temperature controller for cold-storage, of farm produce. In the cold-storage, it is important that farm produces are fresh. Unfortunately, when an operator goes out from the cold-storage temperature change could be occurred due to the various reasons, for an example, a valve of cooler is broken. The temperature change results in a serious problem of the quality of farm produce. To prevent the problem, the operator has to look to the current state of the temperature of the cold-storage, even he is in long away. Thus, the monitoring system to show the temperature should be required to the operator who can move away. Therefore, this paper propose of the remote monitoring system of the temperature. The proposed system is expected to help the operator's facilities, and the management of farm produce.

  • Recently, the incidence of lightning in Korea has been increasing more and more. The damage caused by lightning is also getting worse. Lightning protection system is a prerequisite, not a sufficient condition. Considering the characteristics of lightning, there is a high frequency of lightning strikes in highlands. So, high grades of LPS should be applied to ground facilities of anti-aircraft weapons systems. 4-Level LPS was applied on groung facilities of anti-aircraft weapons system based on lightning incidence rate in past. There are some possibilities of damage from lightning in anti-aircraft weapons system. So, we have to readjust the LPS level with grounding, lightning rods and surge protect device based on lightning incidence rate in now days. Propose 2-level LPS and design with lightning rods, surge protector, separated grounding in this paper.

  • Directed graph and Lindenmayer system (L-system) are two major encoding methods of representation to develop creatures in application field of artificial life. It is difficult to define real morphology structurally using the L-systems which are a grammatical rewriting system because L-systems represent genotype as loops, procedure calls, variables, and parameters. This paper defines a class of representations called structured directed graph, which is identified by its ability to define structures of the genotype in the translation to the phenotype, and presents an example of creating 3D flowers using a directed graph which is proper method to represent real morphology, and interactive genetic algorithm which decodes the problem with human's emotional evaluation. The experimental results show that natural flower morphology can be generated by the proposed method.

Heterotrophic Bacterial Growth on Hoses in a Neonatal Water Distribution System

  • After preliminary tests indicated an increased number of heterotrophic bacteria, we investigated possible sources of contamination in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) water distribution system. Scanning electron microscopic examination of flexible metallic hoses associated with the system revealed the presence of a biofilm; partial 16S rDNA sequencing revealed that the biofilm contained Blastomonas natatoria. Purgation of the water system three times a day, reinforced faucet cleaning, decreasing the cold water temperature to $12^{\circ}C$, and six repeated chlorinations at concentrations as high as 2 mg/l were not sufficient to eradicate the bacterial contamination. Replacing all of the rubber-interior flexible metallic hoses with teflon-lined hoses, followed by heating the water to $70^{\circ}C$, successfully controlled the bacteria.

  • An efficient enzyme system for the synthesis of L-tyrosine was developed using a fed-batch reactor with continuous feeding of phenol, pyruvate, and ammonia. A thermo- and chemostable tyrosine phenol-lyase from Symbiobacterium toebii was employed as the biocatalyst in this work. The enzyme was produced using a constitutive expression system in Escherichia coli BL21, and prepared as a soluble extract by rapid clarification, involving treatment with 40% methanol in the presence of excess ammonium chloride. The stability of the enzyme was maintained for at least 18 h under the synthesis conditions, including 75 mM phenol at pH 8.5 and $40^{\circ}C$. The fed-batch system (working volume, 0.51) containing 1.0 kU of the enzyme preparation was continuously fed with two substrate preparations: one containing 2.2 M phenol and 2.4 M sodium pyruvate, and the other containing 0.4 mM pyridoxal-5-phosphate and 4M ammonium chloride (pH 8.5). The system produced 130g/I of L-tyrosine within 30h, mostly as precipitated particles, upon continuous feeding of the substrates for 22 h. The maximum conversion yield of L-tyrosine was 94% on the basis of the supplied phenol.

Development of Automatic Well-plate Changing Robot System for Genome Project (유전체 연구를 위한 Well-plate 자동 교환 시스템의 개발)

  • In this study, the automatic system exchanging well-plates was developed as a basic stage of the genome project. The developed system consisted of the plate fixing well-plates, the well-plate cassette, the head to move a well-plate from the well-plate cassette to the plate fixing well-plates before genome work or from the plate to the cassette after the work, the manipulator to move the head on the X, Y and Z axes and the control system. The performance test to exchange well-plates with the robotic system developed was carried out. The time to set an well-plate from the well-plate cassette onto the board fixing well-plates was 55 seconds and the time for 9 ones was 8 minutes and 15 seconds. It took 57 seconds to move a well-plate from the board to the cassette and 8 minutes and 33 seconds for 9 ones.

Study on the Discharge Characteristics of Non-point Pollutant Source in the Urban Area of the Youngsan-River Basin (영산강 유역 도시지역의 비점오염원 배출특성에 관한 연구)

  • Discharge characteristics of non-point source pollutant and load amount of the discharge in the urban area were investigated in the Pungyeongjeong-stream basin and the Yongbong-stream basin in this present study. The land use of the studied basins were divided into paddy field, industrial complex area, combined sewage system, separate sewer system and point sources discharge. The descriptive statistics on the event mean concentrations (EMCs) of non-point pollutants by the the land use showed in the range of 4.43-32.28 mg/L for BOD and 8.27~56.17 mg/L for COD. The highest concentration was shown from the combined sewage system. The EMC of SS at the paddy field in the Pungyeongjeong-stream basin showed the highest range with the values ~ from 35.76 to 358.86 mg/L, which might have been influenced by a levee construction in the adjacent of the area. The relatively high concentration values of 4.43~32.28 mg/L and 1.617.13 mg/L emerged from TN and TP,respectively, at the discharge points of the both stream basins.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of constructing neural networks using bio-inpired emergent and evolutionary concepts. This method is algorithm that is based on the characteristics of the biological DNA and growth of plants, Here is, we propose a constructing method to make a DNA coding method for production rule of L-system. L-system is based on so-called the parallel rewriting nechanism. The DNA coding method has no limitation in expressing the produlation the rule of L-system. Evolutionary algotithms motivated by Darwinaian natural selection are population based searching methods and the high performance of which is highly dependent on the representation of solution space. In order to verify the effectiveness of our scheme, we apply it one step ahead prediction of Mackey-Glass time series, Sunspot data and KOSPI data.

  • The second telemetry is designed for supplying additional function which the first telemetry system doesn't have and as a part system of the External Management System (EMS). It makes a patient and an animal move more freely with wireless communication at a distance of free activity from the PC and can get most data from the first telemetry to send to the PC. Recently, our laboratory is developing a RF system for the second telemetry.
