Treatment performance and microbial community structure were investigated in water-soluble cutting oil treatment process using biological activated carbon. DOC removal in BACI column at $15^{\circ}C$ was higher than at $25^{\circ}C$, but those of BAC3 column after 60days was high at$25^{\circ}C$. Also, quinone content of first-step reactors at $25^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$ was much the same, but those of the third-step reactor at $25^{\circ}C$ was higher than at $15^{\circ}C$. The dominant type of two apparatus was ubquinone (UQ)-l 0 followed by UQ-8. Menaquinones were detected from $25^{\circ}C$ apparatus and effluent. This suggested that DOC removal at $25^{\circ}C$ was advanced degradation by attached microorganisms on the activated carbon surface. The DOC removal in long-term activated carbon apparatus increased with going in BAC3 column. This indicated the influent of POC was a result of DOC removal efficiency decrease. Integrated DOC removal from start point in experiment to break point and quinone content were showed a tendency of increasing with going last-step activated carbon apparatus. Therefore, the biological activated carbon apparatus used by this study was effective treatment process in contaminated groundwater by water-soluble cutting oil.

The tires, suspension type, and steering system can all cause pulling during braking. Among these, a drag link steering system and leaf-type suspension system are significant causes of vehicle pulling. In this study, the pulling problem is analyzed using the vehicle analysis program "ADAMS/CAR." The drag link and leaf spring behavior is analyzed to find the key reason for pulling. After this, the optimization program "Visual DOC" is used with "ADAMS/CAR" to find a steering link connection point to reduce pulling. After conducting this simulation, K&C (kinematic & compliance) test simulation with a modified connection point is conducted to determine whether the vehicle performance improves. Through a full braking simulation, it is verified that the pulling distance is reduced at braking.

Dissolved and particulate organic carbon concentrations and fluxes were measured and estimated for the Yeongsan River during 2006~2015. The dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations ranged from 2.49 to $4.39mg{\cdot}C/L$ with a variance of 30.1% (${\sigma}_x/\bar{x}$), and showed a simple correlation to algal bloom and precipitation. The particulate organic carbon (POC) concentrations had gradually decreased from 6.68 to $0.19mg{\cdot}C/L$ for 10 years, and changed definitely with weir construction in 2011. Based on the relationships between POC and suspended particulate matters and between POC and chlorophyll-a, we found out that the distinct variation of the origin and composition of POC was caused by stagnation and screening effect of the dammed river. The total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations dropped to 52.3% (from 8.26 to $3.94mg{\cdot}C/L$) as the POC concentrations diminished to more than 94.8% after weir construction, in which the DOC forms up to 90.9%. The fluxes of TOC, based on the relationship between the annual TOC concentration and the discharge of Yeongsan dike sluice, were $2.56{\sim}19.41{\times}10^9g{\cdot}C/yr$, and showed a great deal of variability in 2011. Since then the TOC flux dropped to $5.40{\times}10^9$ (2011~2015) from $14.54{\times}10^9g{\cdot}C/yr$ (2006~2010). These results suggest that the weirs trapped annually $1.83{\times}10^9g{\cdot}C$ on a river bed, but released in great levels of dissolved organic form at their exits.

This study was conducted to suggest the concentration distribution of organic matters in 348 tributaries of Nakdong River, and to review the validity of the conversion of organic matter indexes. The average concentration of organic matters in the tributaries was TOC 2.4 mgC/L, DOC 2.1 mgC/L, COD 1.0 mgC/L, respectively. DOC ratio to TOC is 87% and COD ratio is 44%. First tributaries shows higher organic pollution than second tributaries. The correlation between TOC and COD was relatively high as 0.796 (p < 0.01, n = 670). Based upon these results, a regression analysis was conducted. The results showed that TOC concentration was 2.5 times higher than COD concentration. In conclusion, it is appropriate to use TOC for the management of all organic matters. Furthermore, there is a need to build organic matter-related Databases for more rivers so as to establish TOC standards and manage the water quality.

This study was performed to investigate the distribution and decomposition characteristics of organic matter in stream water and sewage effluent located in Gwangju. Average of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to total organic carbon (TOC) ratio was approximately 73.9% in the Youngsan river system. The concentration of refractory dossolved carbon (RDOC) was 3.7 mg/L corresponding to 80.9% of the DOC. The ratio of recalcitrant organic carbon was relatively higher than that of biodegradable organic carbon in stream. Oxidation efficiencies in the stream were 45.0% for BOD, 63.0% for $COD_{Mn}$ and 106.5% for CODcr. In case of sewage effluent was 33.6%, 65.7% and 136.1% respectively. Mean decomposition rate ($K_d$) of Youngsan river mainstream, its tributary sites and sewage effluent were about $0.042\;day^{-1}$, $0.043\;day^{-1}$ and $0.028\;day^{-1}$, respectively and the difference was not significant between the mainstream and its tributary sites (t-test, p>0.05). $K_d$ of the sewage effluent was lower than that of stream water.

Today a conventional water treatment system has many problems. The ozone/GAC process, sometimes termed Biological Activated Carbon(BAC), appeared to be effective for the removal of soluble organic matters in the drinking water. The water quality of Nak-dong river in Pusan, generally shows BDOC 30-40% and NBDOC 60-70%. The pilot plant installed at the Duk-san water works that was been largest treatability(1,650,000ton/day) in Pusan. A experimental water in the pilot plant made use of the water after sand-filteration. Following results are drawn from this study. Initial adsorption velocity($DOC/DOC_o/T$) in the pure adsorption of GAG had a 0.0225, it's velocity changed to 0.006 after ozone added and the optimum ozone dose ranged of $1.4-2.0mgO_3/L$. A experimental water in the pilot plant composed with humic material(78%). Humic material composed with humic acid(20%) and fulvic acid(56%), and it's rate changed to 18 and 50% respectively after ozone added. DOC constantly decreased in the EBCTs and removal efficieny in the 15min of EBCT was 45-50%. It showed the largest removal rate of BDOC in the EBCT 5 and among the season, characteristics of removal varied. The HPC distributed over $10^6-10^7CFU/cm^3$ in the bed depth and among the season, distribution of HPC were differential.
Microcystin, stable compounds with circular heptapeptides, is presented inside cyanobacterial cell. So far, over 30 types have been known to exist and microcystin-LR, RR among them are the most potent toxin compound. By this reason, a strong oxidant, ozone was used in this study to remove the microcystins produced by cyanobacteria. Removal efficiency of microcystin at M water treatment plant was also evaluated. Microcystin concentration was determined by protein phosphatase inhibition assay. The results showed that dissolved microcystin in raw water detected in the range of 0.011-0.028 ㎍ Microcystin-RR equivalent/l. Above 98% of microcystin was removed through overall treatment system. Therefore, the water treatability of M treatment plant seemed to be excellent. Removal efficiency of microcystin according to unit process varied as characteristics of raw water such as DOC, UV/sub 254/ and turbidity. Removal efficiency of microcystin by ozonation was investigated in laboratory according to contact time and ozone dose. Dissolved microcystin was increased by twice fold according to ozone contact time, but increased by fifth fold according to ozone dose. So, changing of ozone dose more affected microcystin release than changing of ozone contact time. Behavior of microcystin by ozonation was similar to that of DOC, and residual ozone concentration gave influence to removal ratio of microcystin. In conclusion, single ozone treatment wasn't effective on microcystin removal in case of water containing a lot of cells. Therefore, it's more effective to use ozonation process after the removal of cyanobacterial cells in advance.

Landfill gas (LFG) emissions from a given amount of landfill waste depend on the carbon flows in the waste. The objective of this study was to more accurately estimate the first-order decay parameters through methane (CH4) and carbon flow balances based on the analysis of a full-scale landfill with long-term data and detailed field records on LFG and leachate. The carbon storage factor for the case-study landfill was 0.055 g-degradable organic carbon (DOC) stored per g-wet waste and the amounts of DOC lost with the leachate were less than 1.3%. The appropriate CH4 generation rate constant (k) for bulk waste was 0.24 y-1. The the CH4 generation potential (L0) values ranged 33.7-46.7 m3-CH4 Mg-1, based on the fraction of DOC that can decompose (DOCf) value of 0.40. Results show that CH4 and carbon flow balance methods can be used to estimate model parameters appropriately and to predict long-term carbon emissions from landfills.
The advanced oxidation process (AOP) using ozone combined with hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet treatment were evaluated for biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (EDOC) formation and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) removal. Oxidation treatment were conducted alone or combination with ozone, hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet processes. Ozone dosage of ozone process was varied from $0.5mg/l{\ell}\cdot}min$ to $5mg/{\ell}{\cdot}min$. Ozone/hydrogen peroxide process was done using $20mg/{\ell}{\cdot}min$ of hydrogen peroxide concentration. Ozone/ultraviolet process was irradiated with $12mW/cm^2$ of density and 254nm. Ozone dosage was varied from $0.5mg/{\ell}{\cdot}min$ to $5mg/{\ell}{\cdot}min$ at the ozone/hydrogen peroxide and ozone/ultraviolet processes too. Contact time of all the process was 20 minutes. Oxidation treatment were performed on microfiltration effluent samples. BDOC formation was reached to an optimum at ozone dosage of $1.5mg/{\ell}{\cdot}min$ in the ozone/hydrogen peroxide process and $1mg/{\ell}{\cdot}min$ in ozone/ultraviolet process, after which BDOC formation was decreased at higher ozone dosages. But BDOC formation was increased with ozone dosages increasing in ozone process. The efficiency of DOC removal was higher AOPs than ozone process. Ozone/ultraviolet proces was the highest for DOC removal efficiency in each process. THMFP. removal efficiency by ozone/ultraviolet process was higher than that by each of ozone process and ozone/hydrogen peroxide process.
